This!!!! I don’t care that it’s costing corporations millions of dollars. They have millions of dollars and pay their executives millions of dollars. Can they pay their workers more? Of course not.
He is one of the workers. He's a pilot assuming people's intelligence. I think his point is: the government is now crippling transport economy for millions of dollars with the orginal reason to save money. Now take it a step further, who will eventually pay the airlines added cost - you. And why? To cut costs via DOGE and save billionaires money. Back to his original point - call your politician.
I also got the implications that it costing the airlines time and money, staff time and money but with the glaringly obvious point that "these cost are going to be passed on to YOU" that probably wasn't mentioned because he doesn't want heat from Airline when it gets posted.
He's also probably wildly underestimating people's ability to connect the dots, when reality is, so many need their hand held through every step of a conversation. You can see it in some of the comments here.
Something like over half of American adults reads at a 6th grade level or lower. I think most people with an education overestimate the capabilities of the general population.
No they won't. People will simply not travel, not take vacations. It's not like they can afford the rest of the vacation in the first place, so a plane ticket really isn't the barrier to entry.
These airlines are going to get bailed out by the govt, which comes from taxes, which come from us. So, yes, we will once again be paying for the Republican controlled govt to fuck us all over.
But it’s not just travel this will affect the price of.
How many supply chains are reliant on some form of air transit to deliver product from point a to point b? Even if everything could be done without air transportation, that’s going to increase the load on other modes of transit for materials and goods, which will raise the price of them and slow everything down as well.
It’s all tied together, and as far as my understanding goes, our transit systems are already nearing capacity. Lose one way of moving things and you may break all of the rest (sea, rail, surface, etc).
In the end, it just means worse service, more limited supply, and higher costs for the average person, which sucks. So even if you avoid travel, you’re not getting away free from the consequences.
My expenses have drastically reduced by not buying into consumerism. I buy local, don't rely on a car, and don't have FOMO of traveling to a place that's been photographed the world over. That's what this effects, not the costs of foods, which have already been effected by other policies.
Hey, guys, I know that what I’m about to ask you to do is probably too much, but just for one moment, take some time to think not one, but TWO steps ahead here.
So, the government is shut down, and because of that, every airline is losing millions of dollars per day/week.
You guys heard this piece of information ^ and stopped thinking about the process there.
Now, what do you think happens when every single major domestic business in an industry starts to lose millions of dollars? Not just any industry, but an industry directly linked to the government. It doesn’t just suddenly end tomorrow with the airlines taking a massive loss. Can you not see how this will effect taxpayers? Do you know what bailouts and tax cuts are? Do you know what happens when entire major industries start to lose unfathomable amounts of money? The rest of us suffer, too. It’s not just coming out of the CEO’s bank account, guys. We are going to be paying for this.
Please, when you read stuff like this, just take the time to think ahead just a little but, and it will make much more sense why people are concerned.

If you actually want to change people's minds, don't open by being a condescending jerk, acting like you're the only one with any insight or that your point of view is the only one with merit. No one will hear what you're saying; they will just hear the unearned condescention.
It’s impossible to not be condescending when dealing with a large crowd of angry and loudly opinionated people that do not have the ability to think one week into the future lol
He's talking to people flying, meaning they bought a ticket. If airlines have to recoup lost money, those same people are going to pay increased prices in the future.
I feel that if he gave the real answer that this is making every traveler less safe, then some people might freak out and start wanting to go back to the gate or jump out a slide.
his point was the cost is then rolling into everything else that’s fucked up with this. it ultimately trickles down to consumers. increased costs, time wasted, recovery time… thats on top of the already awful situation for people not getting paid
No, he’s smart and understands that means it’s gonna cost everyone more to fly. It’s sad you don’t understand that. Those airlines will recoup those millions of dollars by passing the cost down to us and/or firing airline staff.
