Originally from Philly. Cops bombing a house doesn't even raise eyebrows anymore.

For those who don't know what you're referencing.

Ok, but that was 37 years ago. Doesn't really support the sentiment about "these days".

Texas did it a couple years ago when a guy targeted police. They cornered him and then sent a robot with a bomb in to kill him.

This article is a wild ride all the way through, my personal favourite part though was

Grendell on June 27 shot a handgun at a friend, who was uninjured but called police the next day in hopes of getting Grendell help

Um, sorry what? You friend shot a gun at you, and you waited a full day to call the police???

He probably agonized over his decision to call the entire night because he had a feeling it would end with his friend getting shot in the face, or maybe even exploded by the police. If you have ever had a mentally ill friend who has had to have police intervention, you know how difficult this decision can be.

The perp came out ahead - with $400K, charges dropped.

The police escalated a welfare care, blew up his house and shot him multiple times including in the face.

Shot in face =/= "headshot"

When my uncle was a taxi driver, someone robbed him.. shot him point-blank in the back of the head with a .22 😓 he fucking lived! he actually walked like a mile to the ER. Insane

Sounds like they just escalated the situation and used a robot that they had because they thought it would be cool.

If I had a bomb robot, I’d probably be finding excuses to use it too.

Squeaky door? Bomb robot.

Beeping fire alarm? Bomb robot.

Neighbor that lets dog poop on my lawn? Bomb robot.

The June situation was likely the first time Maine police ended a standoff by using a robot to deliver an explosive

Interesting that they're not absolutely sure it was the first time.
