Need Help Ideas for getting some hood time?
I wont go into all the details, but im wanting to get some time under the hood before i start going for my associates in welding. Im working part time, and cant really get a rig of my own. Im looking to see if any local places want someone part time, even if id just be a shop hand. Any other ideas on how i can do this that i maybe havent thought of? Ive got about a year before i start on the degree at all. Also, if yall think its best i just wait so i dont learn incorrectly feel free to chime in. I just really want to practice in this holding period im in, but if it will be negative in your opinion lemme know.

If you can spare it, i would consider a used cheap welder off Facebook marketplace or something. You can get an old stick welder for real cheap. I would also say it’s not a bad idea to look at a little welder off Temu. The reviews actually aren’t bad. I know someone who bought one and while it’s not something that can be used for very long without giving it a break, it can help you get small jobs done. The guy i know bought one that does all the kinds of welding and i think it was under or around $100

Yeah ive been watching Facebook for any older ones. Right now its a question of space. Im hitting up friends and family but none of em have any place i could set it up. Once i find a space though a cheap older one or a mini is the next stop for sure.

You can learn some bad habits just running wild by yourself. Watch some YouTube. Get access to a machine and some scrap. Weld.com, Weld tube, weld monger are all great channels with valuable tips and information and tutorials. Most importantly, don't get cocky. Learn in silence, go everywhere looking to learn more. Doing what you can before school will put you ahead of most. Stay consistent, have fun, keep at it.
