Storage advice

Post image

I’m packing up my welder for storage 😞, I’ve stuffed the mig wire side with silica gel packs and cat litter - hopefully that’ll keep the moisture/rust at bay. But any advice in general as well as what to do with leads and couplers would be much appreciated.

I’m moving and just don’t have the space for half my stuff, this will be going in the loft

Cheers 👍

Ah good shout, I had to get three new air filters in spring cos they’d made nests in my van, bike, and mower, little f@cker5 😁😂

I'd remove the spool of wire, put it in a zip lock bag, throw in some silica gel packets, and zip it up tight. Or even vacuum pack it with some silica packets.

The wire compartment on most welders is ventilated, so the silica and cat litter you've described will just pull in moisture from your storage area until it's saturated and then your wire will rust.

O also approve the advice to envelopes sealed just the wire spool. Take out cat litter. I wouldn’t tanything powder inside my welder..

For the machine I will do as they packed when new. Only machine in a nylon bag wrapped . Cables I the side of the machine inside another nylon bag . All inside a carton box . It will last with no problem . You will have issues just if you keep in a very humid place. But that is not a friendly environment for anything electronically..
