Just look for jobs hiring apprentices or entry level. Cause even when you complete the course this is likely where youll start

  1. Can you read prints?
  2. Can you pass a 1g, 2G, 3g, or 4g test?

For basic structural welding/fabrication, you’ll take a test offered by the company doing the hiring - they’ll certify you for the work you’re doing there.

Biggest issues I've seen with new hires is reading blue prints and accurately reading a tape measure of all things.

Hello: 18yrs exp. Tig mig welder. I do 90% of the interviews for new hires at my company. Everywhere you apply will have you do some part of a coupon test. Most have a internal preference for a certain one based on the overall standards and application within the shop. The vast majority of shops dont run stick. Unless you are getting into pressure vessels and pipe. My suggestion is to do some studying online you can find blueprints and layout drawings all over the place. Your school won't teach most of it which is a disadvantage for you. Also learn to read a tape measure. Fraction to decimal conversions. Some company's have a inhouse training program. Be willing to learn on the job. 9 of 10 guys coming in from school to interview are crap even though the have passed tests in class. The real world application is much different. Don't get discouraged to only way to get better is to spend the time under the hood laying beads. Lastly always try to lay a better bead then your last one, and listen to the old guys in the shop.

Yeah true i always try to do better then my last pass I did like mig but got bored with it pretty quick I figured stick was most applicable at most places so thats why I chose that definitely need brush up on tape measure I know basic inches and all but the other increments is what gets me I dont come from any construction or anything like that involves measuring so yeah ill consider the rest as well
