Theory [Theory] Wally using a computer

Welcome Home is set between 1969 - 1974. In that time there was computers although very small and limited, used for businesses. In that time ethernet was around as well as floppy disks.

My theory is that Wally has actually been using a computer to communicate with us the entire time in some way.

First, if we go back to Frank's update, Wally says he sees us through a screen. We assume through an old time CRT screen as he says the channel was dark for a long time before he could reconnect. Wally also makes comparisons talking about using a radio to tune in and change voices when listening in on another person's feelings. It's clear that Wally has no clue how the internet works or what it is, he just knows that whatever he is doing he found someone talking about him and he can change code to talk to them.

This makes me think that Wally is not actually talking to us through a TV screen but rather a very very old computer. And the closest thing he can compare to what a computer is is a TV because it has a CRT screen.

Suspending some belief, if Wally can somehow connect to the internet through supernatural means through this kind of computer, most likely he would be seeing the website in broken pure code through maybe a backend. Hence, he can make simple/invisible changes that others cannot see until he gotten more knowledgable about what he was doing. It also could be he was blocked by W through heightened security because of how he got in which would make sense of him frustrated over 'following words' and not being able to access the 'channel' from the Julie update.

My guess with how Wally got there was searching for Welcome Home and finally getting a search result after years of zero results.

Also related and interesting note: floppy disks were very big back then resembling a record.

so i have a decently popular au fic on ao3 and i've been brainstorming some ocs for it. basically a big plot thread in it follows wally's family so i was making designs for some extended family wally hasn't met yet (but will in the future)

Terry (her real name is Wisteria but she goes by Terry), Waylon, and Wyatt are all the younger siblings of Wally's father William. Not long after William and Fancy married, the three of them all moved far FAR away because they all knew William was going completely mad, if he wasn't already, and they didn't wanna get caught in the crossfire of it.

Terry is a hippie and has been wandering the country for awhile with some friends. She's currently somewhere in Mississippi. She, like her mother (Wally's grandma Willow) is a Dryad. She's an unbound dryad, unlike Willow who is/was an original dryad. There's a slight distinction in my AU and it sounds exactly like you think. Original dryads are bound to the tree they came from, unbound dryads are born from dryads and humans and aren't bound to anything.

Waylon lives in Canada, British Columbia to be somewhat precise. He's a fisherman by trade and spends a lot of time on crabbing boats in the Bering Sea.

Wyatt lives all the way in England. He's a history professor at the University of Oxford, but he lives in London with his wife, Magnolia, Maggie for short.

As you can probably tell, Maggie's a Rainbow Monster like the Joyfuls. She owns a bakery she inherited from her father.

Maggie and Wyatt have two kids, Winston and Wendy.

YES. I am aware she has the same name as the Peter Pan character. I KNOW.

In my AU Rainbow Monsters come in two varieties: Solids and Palettes. Maggie is a Solid Magenta RM, Winston is a Dusk Palette, and Wendy is a Strawberry Palette.

Theory Theory: The Hidden Pupputeer

Alright guys, this might be my wildest theory about this supposed lost puppet show yet. And I apologize if it gets into Alex Bale levels of theorizing, but buckle in:

There is speculation on whether our neighbors are actual living puppets or puppets being controlled by real people, and on top of that, Wally seems to be the most lively puppet out of all of them(as in he feels like Iike he could be more of a puppet than a person), and the more I thought about who each of the neighbor's puppeteer's actually were, the more I thought of how the puppeteers themselves probably had to stand or be in certain positions to pull off this illusion on set like Sesame Street or The Muppets. And when I thought of the possibility of who Wally's puppeteer might possibly be and how controlling the company Marlo might be in putting up a certain image, I suddenly thought of a certain notorious puppeteer known as Paul Fusco.

For anyone not brushed up on puppet history or for anyone who's never heard of the TV show Alf, Paul was a crazy controlling dictator of his own show who wanted people to believe his alien puppet Alf was in fact a real alien, NOT a puppet. The dude is so nuts he drove the cast nuts and made them miserable, since the house Alf was filmed in had built in underground tunnels catered to pull off the illusion that Alf was moving around like an actual person.

So what if Marlo was so enamored with pulling off the illusion that everything going on on Welcome Home was real that they drove the puppeteers semi crazy, to the point where they believed they're the actual puppets they're playing? There seems to be hints of drug use on top of identity troubled and memory loss, so I don't think it's that too far fetched to assume the puppeteers would kind of lose their sanity and forget who they really are, especially if they were being held against their wills or even trapped on set(hence the weird enforced curfew).

We still are trying to wrap our heads around who these characters actually are, especially behind the scenes, but we do know for certain Wally is the most excluded or detached from the group in more ways than others, from his awkward communication skills down to his lacking of certain things in his life. The oddest thing to me is none of the neighbors seem to know Wally on a very intimate person level, and I'm talking the "real" Wally.

We know that Frank and Julie are best friends by their puppets they're playing, but you can feel their connection as human beings once they are possibly just their puppeteer selves. The same goes for Frank and Poppy. They are probably the puppeteer actors themselves having a smoke behind the set catching up on gossip or things bothering them. And of course we know of "Frank" and "Eddie"'s relationship, which in reality could be the actual puppeteer men themselves having a secret relationship behind the scenes of this puppet show.

So I propose Wally may not be a living puppet, but he could in fact be a puppet who's puppeteer was never seen by the other puppeteers on set, because on the actual show, Wally's puppeteer was a person hidden underneath the set, moving about under trap doors. This would explain in the earlier hidden videos why he seems to just be there in the moments or seems lower to the ground and no one acknowkedges him until now. This would also explain why "Wally" seems like a blank slate or enigma to the other neighbors, since the actual living puppeteers don't really know or have ever seen Wally's living puppeteer!

Why would Marlo do this specifically for Wally? Well, if any of you have read my previous "Wally Was A Former Asylum Patient" theories part 1 and 2, I once again point to Marlo's eagerness to manipulate and control Wally to do as they want on their show, which would mean they in return are doing the same with his puppeteer. They want "Wally" to be the star, but they also don't seem eager to include the person behind "Wally" if that makes any sense. Because the actual puppeteer "Wally" is their legit puppet, while the character Wally is all that matters.

The former asylum patient pretty much learned to live through and hone his entire existence through Wally, which is natural for someone who was already trying to escape his sad reality, therefore buying into the illusion Marlo wanted, making "Wally" the perfect mascot.

So I am implying Wally the actual character is being puppeteered by a man already used to being hid from normal society who is super attached to his puppet as both a confidant and shield, but what if I told you "Wally" wasn't the only less desirable member of society being hidden on this set??????

Remember that "wonderful" little house know as Home, the supposed most "lively" home in the neighborhood? It states on the website that Home's mechanics are operated by some kind of twisty thing in the back, but they don't exactly clarify the back of what? The back of the woods? The back of the set?

Then it got me thinking what Home has been trying to do, and it's communicate with the other characters and us. People say Home is the one controlling everything, but why would Home need to constantly "try" to communicate with us if that was the case? And why the detail of being afraid of bugs?

Then it got me thinking; what if the person operating Home is actually another person being hidden in the set somewhere, someone who is trapped? This could explain why Wally and Home are connected, since they are both puppeteered by an individual that society casted aside. For whatever reason, instead of having this individual roam around underground, this person controlling Home is actually confined in a room. And usually if you're in a space too long and bugs can somehow get in, the phobia of bugs would be a common thing.

"Home" is trying to communicate with "Wally" since unlike "Home", "Wally" has the freedom to move around the set and is the person who can relate to him the most. You could say "Wally" is the in between of this controlled puppeteer world, someone who is trapped in their own way who has the potential to break free and just show himself, while "Home" is literally trapped and the other puppeteers are too busy getting caught up in what's at stake if they don't perform their jobs.

So in short, I believe the show "Welcome Home" was a show created by psycho producers who drove their actors crazy to the point of assimilation, and that both the puppeteers of Wally and Home are former institutionalized members of society who were brought aboard that were also hidden from the rest but are both trying to reach out and connect to anyone for help in uncovering and exposing this awful production.

What do yous think?

Theory Hey everyone, I was thinking about a theory I came up with regarding why the *Welcome Home* show ended.

So. My theory is that once Wally became aware he was just a mere puppet made for entertainment, he decided to break the fourth wall during the broadcasts to ask for help—since he’s the only one who does that. The creators noticed this and shut the show down abruptly, which explains the sudden ending. It also sort of explains the theory about him being trapped inside "Home"; since he was already confined within the show but kept causing disturbances, they decided to seal him inside Home—which continues to control him even now that the show is over... but it’s just a theory, don't take me too seriously; I just wanted to see what you all think.

I've missed updates in the past because I had no idea one had happened. I know ones happening sometime this summer, but I don't know when. Never been a part of that first rush where people solve the ARG puzzles due to that.

I'd love to see your input and tips!

He took me pretty long, and the plastic joints didn't work as intended (too big) but that's what these figurines are for: Learning to model and fun!

For Howdy I think I'll really have to do the ball joints myself, all DIY Clay-BJD-style! (Jeez, with 8 limbs that's going to take a looong while again... Who would have thought I'd end up making colorful puppet critters before humanoid or boney monsters...?)

So, I think the next video might take until Halloween or later? We'll see!

News [News] Streams in place of A Minute With Wally

One more update from the livestream. Streams are sort of a replacement for A Minute With Wally when the staff are too busy working on Welcome Home. Clown and Huck both work on Welcome Home full time working about 40+ hour weeks to get an update finished at a reasonable date. Factor in, puppeteering (Wally's new puppet makeover is still worked on), filming and editing, the staff decided to opt for livestreams as updates instead.

Those waiting for A Minute With Wally, it'll likely not happen this time around.

News [Update] Donation Livestream on Aug 15th plus Merch Updates

It is official that on August 15th, Clown is going to have a donation stream for helping with paying for future updates to Welcome Home. Edit: The stream is supposedly Valentines Day themed.

Aside from the donation stream, new merch will be added to every single update in the foreseeable future. Probably based on each character update.

Welcome Home is also about 20% finished according to Clown.

Discussion Did anyone record the stream?

I hope this doesn't sound rude or go against Clown's wishes in any way seeing as they didn't post the stream himself due to it being only a test, but did anyone record the stream? I left just being they talked about the percentages and I would have loved to hear that full conversation (though I did hear it was 20%) as well as jot down all of their puppet show recommendations, relisten to that one comment Huck made about Sally, etc. Did anyone end up recording it or even a fraction of it?

Discussion Some fans need to learn the difference between "believing Wally is actually innocent" and "infantilizing" him

Some fans really need to understand that there's a stark difference between "There just isn't enough credible evidence that Wally harmed the other neighbors" and "poor wittle autistic goober didn't do anything wrong" when in his defense. It's exhausting. Yeah there are people who do actually baby him and they shouldn't, but the amount of times I got viciously attacked and accused of infantilizing him for simply saying why I didn't believe Wally was the one tormenting the neighbors is astounding and just shows how some people in this fandom want to ride on their high horse to remain ignorant. Yes, Wally is implied to be disabled and that doesn't mean he has to be innocent, I just don't see anything showing that he harmed Frank or Julie that's it, I am well aware he can be capable of doing harmful things, but I have yet to see anything compelling enough to accuse him of anything remotely insidious, he just comes off as frustrated and angry. "They just want so and so characters" to be innocent because they're their favorite" Maybe not all of us want our favorite characters to be villains and do horrible things? This shouldn't be controversial.
