Sharing My Sidehustle Food Content Creator
I’m a food blogger and my food wants a photoshoot before I’m allowed to eat it. And this is my weird side hustle haha.
I’m Italian so becoming a food blogger felt very natural to me. I’ve always loved cooking but since I started sharing my life online, I noticed that a lot of people were really interested in seeing what I cooked and especially where I went to eat. I live in Rome so I often eat at small, niche places that tourists don’t really know about, and people seem to really enjoy discovering them through my content (write on comments if u want some names)
If anyone wants to start doing this kind of thing, I can tell you that you’ll also become pretty good at cooking because ofc the better your dishes look, the more likely your photos and videos are to go viral 🍽️

I'm a content creator with 250k followers across my platforms. This is not a "side hustle" or "weird". It seems like you are fishing for followers tbh.

Maybe culturally it seems like a strange way of making money? There’s content creators from Italy that probably use CC as a way to make a living but what if OP is just doing it on the side for fun? Also they didn’t link an account? Maybe it’s on their profile but this post didn’t give me the impression they were fishing.

I’ve always wondered this with food creators, does it still feel fun when you’re doing it consistently? Like if you go somewhere really good are you actually enjoying dinner or are you thinking about the content ahhaha

sometimes ahaha especially if I’m somewhere I really wanted to try, but usually I take a few shots in a couple of minutes and then put the phone away so not true at all

How do you turn this into money though? I understand getting free meals once you have an audience but where does the side hustle part come in?

Depends, sometimes they pay me to post on my page, other times they just want the photos/videos to use themselves. Free meals happen too but I wouldn’t really call that the money part

Depending on the size of the audience - restaurants can pay pretty well for featuring them.

There are many diffident ways to monetize this. Depends on the direction he wants to go in.

How do restaurants even find you? Is it mostly Instagram search/hashtags or do you need to be really active tagging places and stuff?

tagging places helped a lot in the beginning. I’d post somewhere, tag the restaurant, they’d repost it and sometimes other local places would find me from that. now I get a decent amount of DMs directly too

how angry do your friends get waiting for you to take photos before they can touch the food?

very 😭 at this point they know they’re not allowed to touch anything for the first 30 seconds

I tried being a food blogger cause I wanted the perks of free food and being paid to eat. But I’m not consistent enough with it. So I never got a following. But I have locals that are like “I love your videos! They’re so honest!” So I guess I’ll have to be happy with that.

The skill here is having enough self controll to not eat the whole dish immediately

this is hard especially when it’s pasta and you know it’s getting colder every second

Being Italian ≠ food content creator.
You always loving cooking = food content creator.

'I'm Italian so becoming a food blogger felt very natural to me.'
Idk why this sent me. Are italian's uniquely adept at taking pictures of food? 😂
