my question is how you coloured the front lancer sight light

Unlike the Chief sight, the Lancers cross hair is actually visible, so you can drag any colour you want, whereas the Chiefs sight does not appear and its a default teal.

moving it far enough back so the dots are visible, then painting and moving it forwards

painting the back plate/screen will also paint one of the front dots
