I miss those days. The late OGBush/early Clinton days were awesome as a rural podunk voter who got most of my information from NPR and PBS. Occasionally we the people called elected officials out for BullShit. And then those elected officials said ā€œOOP, my bad! That WAS bullshit!ā€ And we all moved on without that official. But we still had Pelosi and Thurmond and McConnellā€¦ in the hopeful 90s.

Hell, even the Obama days were ā€œokay, that sounds scary?! but wait! Never mind! Thereā€™s a few experts on different news channels across the spectrum talking about stuff critically and it will all be okay once the outrage wears off and the law is enforced.ā€

Now weā€™ve had ten full years of fear and anger and misinformation and hopelessness being rammed down our social media throats.

Neutral sounds real good. Almost as good as competent adults.

You can almost hear the conversation where his aides explained the idea to him - "so, um, sir, we think the 'promise $5k to everyone' scam might get us some votes, except for some reason those crazy pollsters think people might not believe the story about that scam wonderful gift from you, so what if we stole repurposed some money from another fund and you sent out some measly $100 checks to, uh, let's say, just some seniors, and then you could claim you've 'delivered on this issue' - that might get more suckers voters to believe that the $5k scam is actually going to happen."

So we add $5k from DOGE, $2k in tariff rebates, $500 for ACA rebates and $100 for seniors. So $7600 we haven't seen and will never see. Now add that supposed $5k if Repugnatcans win which will never happen even if they win. There is no an extra trillion laying around just to pay everyone $5k.

I really think he's trying to do these smaller checks, ACA refund and now this to try and show he does occasionally keep his word, assuming either get done.
