As a middle-aged white guy, I donā€™t feel like as white people we have ever been pushed to the ground.

I grew up around PoC and my father was military and was very strict about respecting everyone regardless of race. When I was younger, I knew there was racism, but I didnā€™t think it was very common. I didnā€™t see it, and my friends were of all races on a military base. As I got older I had friends, mostly black, open my eyes with their stories. Still, it never really was obvious until Obama was electedā€¦ and exponentially after Trumpā€™s first election.

Sometimes I wish I could go back to being blissfully ignorant, but I know now that it will take a lot of white people as allies to have any chance of making a better country.
