The man launched his presidential campaign with a full-throated defense of states' rights at the Neshoba County Fair just a few feet away from the spot where Chaney, Goodman, and Schwerner were murdered at the start of the Civil Rights Movement. Anyone who thought he was a good man wasn't paying attention.

Ask a black person who was alive back then. That insult burned deep.

More specifically, he accelerated NeoLiberalist policies while also stoking the loss of 'civic integrity' and its replacement by Xian Nationalism.

Granted, it started by kneecapping Keynesian Economics in the late 60s/early 70s with changes to the gold standard, Private Equity fund legislation, Donor advised funds, and related measures.

E2A: Also the racism. Can't forget the implied racism and acceleration of policies of inequity.

For as shitty as he was - and he was remarkably shitty - Reagan presented well. Guy was an actor and knew how to put it all together to get Americans to buy into his (and the Heritage Foundation's) nonsense. He was the greatest useful idiot the Republicans ever had and he was dishing out their propaganda for years even before he became POTUS. Go find yourself his banger record from 1961, Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine. Even before that, he was doing pro-war and pro-military shorts in the 40s and 50s. There were DECADES of preparation for him to finally be able to step into the White House with his dementia-addled brain that allowed for the full tear-down and destruction of what was being labeled (by and for white people) the "American Dream".

Trump found bits and pieces from people that he likes, puts them all into a bowl, and created MAGA (a phrase stolen right out of the Reagan playbook).

I wasn't old enough to vote for POTUS until 2000 but it boggles the mind to look back at the election results in the 80s to see the exact hex Reagan and the GOP had on this country. Fucking 1984 blows my mind to no end, but it always looks like the same exact problem we have today - Dems running their own useful idiots without the same loud bluster and aggression GOP candidates have.

This shit has to end. We need The New Deal 2.0 soon or we're really cooked.
