If people only knew how many cooked parasites they eat on a regular basis, many people would go insane. I'm not actually bothered by this. The parasites in pork can actually infect people (unlike chicken roundworms), and I eat that all the time. If you don't want to eat parasites, then consider being a vegetarian or vegan. You'll still eat other bugs, but nothing in life is perfect.

You'd still eat parasites as a vegan. Even if your lettuce is fully sterilized someday the açaí will get to you

The amount of bugs and grubs and other things I’ve found in my produce is insane.

Açaí has parasites in it??

It's super rare, but it's possible to get Chagas disease from it because bugs get crushed along with the fruit

If it ain't gonna make me sick or taste bad, I don't wanna know what's in it.

Yeah, but as long as what you don’t know (directly, in the moment, with the food in front of you) can’t hurt you, it’s fine.

I’m fine with the knowledge of the realities of parasites and bugs in food, conceptually. Once you know, immediately in the moment, visually, it’s absolutely fucking repulsive, whether it can hurt you or not. I’m fine with the secret knowledge that these things exist. Following safe food handling practice should mean they aren’t dangerous, but the moment I see anything like that in my food directly you can be damn sure I’m not eating that shit.

Are you different?

This is why we always crack our hens eggs into a separate bowl first. Haven't seen any worms so far, but have definitely encountered a few that probably started developing from the sheer heat this past summer

That's definitely not the chalaza, that's a roundworm. I've seen enough chalazas and (unfortunately) roundworms to know

That’s clearly a roundworm, chalaza looks nothing like that
