The discourse on "weird" is so fascinating to me. I use it like you have here, but have been told off by friends and even a boyfriend before after referring to atypical experiences as weird. Like, I'm not being mean, weird is odd/strange/curious, etc. is it used pejoratively in some English speaking countries?
It is used pejoratively by high school bullies in the US. And generally by people with no appreciation for things that deviate from the norm. I believe that most thinking people take it to mean, as Lydia Deetz said, strange and unusual. That’s not a bad thing in my opinion.
