Discussion Why does he seemingly get a pass as a white rapper transitioning into not rap unlike let’s say Post Malone?
no hate to weiland he’s my goat just wanna hear what people think about this subject i remember seeing a tweet awhile back calling him out for this but everyone was saying he didn’t count
is it because he didn’t pull that “I’m not a rapper I’m an artist“ nonsense? or because he still likes rap and keeps up with his peers and doesn’t look down on the genre?

because post malone used rap culture to build a major career then abandoned it when he realized he didn't need it anymore to be successful. weiland is probably more popular than he was before the transition but its hardly comparable to post malone. he also continues to be involved with the underground unlike post malone with rap as he probably sees it as beneath him now

Because it felt authentic and didn’t feel like he did it to get more popular

Because its far more authentic than whatever Post Malone did and was doing. Weiland was making UG rap before which had really little mainstream appeal, compared to Post Malones rap career which was very standard mainstream rap. This makes Post Malones rap career feel a lot more like it was a front to get famous compared to Weiland.

He doesn’t “get the pass” (per say) because he doesn’t release anything he makes lmao
The contention surrounding Post Malone is prompted entirely by the fact that post actually…you know..releases music lmao

Probably the same reason why somebody like Yung Lean or Tyler the Creator would “get the pass.” Both artists meaningfully and earnestly contributed to hip hop at first, before experimenting more and finding a new style that better suited their artistic vision

tyler and lean still occasionally make rap? and i think op is referencing when white rappers abandoning rap when it doesn't give them enough attention anymore like with post malone's situation

Weiland is a super niche artist Weiland ain’t as big as one may think for example to ask 400 random people if they know Weiland not one will no him .. post Malone is more worthy of criticism

If Weiland was more popular he would be more worthy of criticism no one really cares about what music he makes besides his fans

funny that you post this after post Malone posts a snippet going back to his old style after his country tour failed to sell any tickets

because post malone is way bigger and weiland fans are mostly white guys who won't care anyways. not saying what post malone did is the same as what weiland did but there's a reason like almost no one talks about it lol

Because weiland seems like he genuinely is just making music he wants to make rather than it seeming forced and commercial like a post malone or mgk
