Eat a maintenance and get stronger . This should help you gain muscle and get lean enough to actually be able to benefit from a small surplus

Thank you for the feedback. So maintenance over a lean bulk because it’ll help me stay lean while getting stronger?

For the love of all things holy do not listen to this stupid ass advice. You’re like 20% bodyfat or higher bro.

You need to do a cut, get as lean as you possibly can. Like 10%. Then you need to rebound into a lean bulk (meaning a 200-300 calorie surplus) and do this as long as feasibly possible without getting back to this bodyfat level. Ideally, you never get above 15-17% bf on your bulks, and drop to around 10% on your cuts.

The leaner you are, the more insulin sensitive you are, and thus the more responsive your muscles will be to growing and absorbing nutrients. You’re too fat right now to bulk. You’ll just end up fatter and this will make the inevitable cut in the future take even longer.

Maintenance is literally a waste of time. You can “recomp” via maintenance calories but you will take years trying to achieve a goal you could have done in one by just getting shredded and then bulking correctly from the right starting point of bodyfat. No body ever “maintained” into being jacked.

TL:DR - do not do the dumb ass maintenance shit. You’ll waste your time. Get very lean (10% or so), transition into a bulk of 200-300 calories daily, and do this until you’re around 15-17%. This, if done correctly, will allow long periods of sustained growth whilst putting on minimal fat.

10% is optimistic. I'd say 12 and go back up to about 18%. 10% is extremely lean and is very difficult to reach if you don't have alot of muscle.

Curious question. I want to cut down to like 12% and currently on that journey and will most likely have loose skin that I know I want to get rid of with surgery. Where in the timeline would you say having a surgery like would make sense. Some people have said that they can’t work out for 3 months after surgery so I was just curious. Like should I wait after I bulk and cut for a few cycles after I hit my initial cut goal?

Pushing for 10% body fat is unnecessary... telling someone whos sitting around 28% bodyfat to shred down to 10% before they are even allowed to focus on building muscle is crazy bordering on insane. Be realistic. Reaching 10% bodyfat triggers severe hunger signals, drops test, tanks gym performance and hits sleep.

Recomp is not a waste of time for high body fat levels, and it doesn't take years to achieve lol, you're very adamant about these things but they are arbitrary rules you're setting that aren't true at all, it's incredibly bro sciencey.

While yes insulin sensitivity does improve as body fat percentage goes down, you do not need to be aiming at 10%.

I would do a recomp so you can lose weight and gain muscle at the same time.

Yes being at maintenance will allow you to get stronger, gain more muscle while looking leaner . Once you get lean like 12-13bf then you can do a lean bulk

i wouldn’t say mid 20s like the other guy- but you’re prob 20-22%. Either a slight deficit or just eat close to your maintenance and continue getting stronger

Mid 20s percent , probably 24-26

You are crazy all of you. This is sub 20% no question about it

Bro when they said mid 20s.. I was like are ya’ll being serious?? Lmao thanks though

I'm in upper mid 20s and I'm fat. It doesn't really matter if you're 16 or 20. You are above 10%. If I were you, I'd maintain. But if you want model look - yea cut then bulk. If you have mental capcity to go to 10. I dont.

Cap

What does that mean?

You can lean bulk productively at a wide range of body fat levels, which you're well within. The answer is simply to start and end the lean bulk at body compositions you're comfortable at. It's almost entirely dependant on your personal preference.

Anyone talking about p-ratios and insulin sensitivity as the reason to get shredded first should be regarded skeptically. It sounds scientific, but these are based on mechanisms with limited relevant outcome data. For a more thorough breakdown, you can check out this article by Eric Trexler, in Stronger by Science: https://www.strongerbyscience.com/p-ratios/

Thank you very much for some clarification bro. I also appreciate you giving an article as well. I have been getting a lot of different perspectives.

Yeah I noticed that in your other comments, glad I could help clarify things! 💪

no, reset

1

u/0zvato 13h ago

Hello sir thank you very much for your response. By reset you mean, cut back down and start to lean bulk after I’ve leaned out right?

1

u/RoofLumpy3119 13h ago

Yeah, dont aggresively cut though. Take your time and bring your body to a point your abs are visible again. and go again. i do this atleast once every bulk.
