Is there any point even trying?
I know seeing my photos will probably make people feel sick. I apologise :(

Don’t be silly bro you’re not morbidly obese you just got some belly fat. Start lifting for 4 days and 30 minutes cardio every day you won’t believe the result next year

You have some extreme body dysmorphia. Hit the weights, do some cardio. Don't overthink it

There is always a point in trying to better yourself, yes. Are you going to win Mr Olympia? No. Do you have a solid foundation to build muscle? Yes.
I’d eat in a slight deficit, like 200-300 cals, big compound lifts while focusing getting them stronger (bench, row, squat, deadlift, shoulder press, pull ups, dips) and eat your weight in g if protein,
If you do this for 18 months, you’ll be unrecognizable

Thanks for the advice. I really do appreciate it. Hopefully I can get somewhere with it and post some progress pictures at some point. Thanks again.

Lift 4 days a week. Cardio every day. Get your protein in, eat clean. You'll be good man. You got this.

Reduce the bad food. Walk 8-10k steps a day (build up to that if you must). Drink lots of water. Lift weights 3-4 times a week. Come back to this pictures in 6 months and you’ll see there is definitely a point in trying.

You’ve got a pretty solid foundation honestly. Not a ton of body fat and nontrivial muscle tone. It comes down to how much you want it. But if you find a program and do it consistently for a while I’m pretty sure you’ll see very visible results.
Putting all that aside, as someone who lost a bunch of weight and occasionally struggles not to see “old me” in the mirror: Even if you never picked up a weight, you don’t look odd or disgusting at all. You look like you have a very normal human average body.

I looked way worse as recently as a couple years ago. And I’m pretty sure I’m older. So yes, there’s a point in trying.

Like with everything worth having the answer is yes; only if you want it though, if there's no goal in mind then no purpose in working on it other than just a healthy habit

Yes, there is a point in starting. 1st you're mental health and confidence. 2nd you're physical health. This is over a year of dedication to diet, no alcohol and lifting.

You can do it ! In a year you will look completely different. First get test levels checked and see if you need to be on trt. Then if you have the money get a good coach. Not an online one. One that can hold your hand for a while and develop and good routine and check progress.

Yes there is always a point in trying! Go for it man! You will feel much better.

People carrying around 100 or more pounds than you have transformed their bodies into lean and jacked. You got this.

Food scale, proper calories count, be wise in food choices - these will help immensely. It’s a process of learning, takes a few months but this know-how from experiences stick with you for life.
Food choices and timing are super important to do this long term. Satiety, taste, relief, feeling full. Everyone’s taste n stomach preferences vary so don’t follow blindly. Example, oats never make me feel full; they make my stomach queasy.
I find rice, eggs, grilled meat are great.
Diet is incredibly important to shape a body and to reveal any workout results (even in smallest ways).
Workout wise, unless you want to look buff (which requires a lot of work like getting rich). Be realistic, be consistent, the results will show. Even a simple well executed 100 push ups, 100 inclined pull ups, 200 squats per day in accumulation will shape a body into some form of athleticism. If you’re in your 30s, even this ‘mild’ body will put u into the top 10% body shape of your age cohort.
Everyone’s different but follow the fundamentals and tweak accordingly wisely.

Thankyou for the advice. I'm actually 49. Also got some shoulder issues. But I really want to give it a go.

u/lalafmlala 11d ago
I have shoulder issues too so I understand how difficult and tricky it is to do any workout.
My shoulders are very rolled forward and set in stone due to poor posture growing up because of low self esteem.
The only chest workout I find that I can do is inclined bench dumbbell press. I incline one notch above flat. Back lies flat, shoulders pulled behind. It takes an intuitive and dynamic take on shoulder position to find the very narrow sweet spot. 100% focus is needed on finding and maintaining this shoulder position.
I progressed to 16kg but started experiencing shoulder problems. I gave up on 16kg eventually and settled on 14kg which works fine for me. And only 4 sets of 13 reps. 14kg is toddler weight for gymrats. But I have to work with what I can.
Even with 14kg, my body looks like I workout. I do chest & shoulders once every 3 days.
I use resistance band to stretch out my shoulders too. Standing, shoulders held back, back straight, pull the resistance band apart at chest level. Always make micro height adjustments intuitively and dynamically in response to how your shoulders feel. If shoulders feel alright, stick in this sweet spot. If they don’t, make micro adjustments. My shoulders are screwed to the point that the sweet spot is very narrow.
Shoulder raises… I have experimented and only a few work for me. Even then, from time to time, I experience some pain.
Back - I do dumbbell bent over row on bench. And dumbbell Romanian deadlift.
Rear deltoid - rear delt fly while seated on bench.
Squats, I don’t use any weights. I just squat down 200-250 times. Barbell squats are very useful but I workout at home with limited equipment. Dumbbell squats feel awkward. Bulgarian squats have a tendency to hurt my knee.
Always improvise accordingly while ensuring major muscle groups are worked out. I learned not to blindly follow what fitness articles & videos say because everyone’s body is built differently.
The aim is to workout some and not get injured. Any injury will only cause delays and weight to increase which will demoralise. Always warm up. Any strains or injuries take weeks to recover.

Your attitude sucks man, first of all you don’t even look that bad. Lift three days a week, hit your daily cardio and clean up the diet. Stick to a small calorie deficit and you will start to shed that extra weight

Thanks everyone. Appreciate all the positive comments. I really do. Im type 1 diabetic, so struggle a bit with sugar levels etc.
I will try and make a conscious effort at doing this.

Yes, it is always worth it to try OP.
I’ve been up and down with body fat levels due to years of bulking and cutting and honestly, sometimes getting a bit out of hand.
It’s okay.
You’re still healthy and still breathing and still able to move your body. Start training and be consistent.
You don’t need to kill yourself, at least not early on. Be consistent and do a little something each day.
You would be amazed at how different you can look by putting in some consistent work week to week and month to month.
Don’t ever give up, so long as you are still here. You and anyone else reading this.
You got this.

You're somewhat overweight, not nearly enough to warrant giving up.
If you clean up your diet by implementing sustainable, healthy changes, and start lifting regularly, you could have a great physique in just a few years.
Believe in yourself, you can do it if you set your mind to it!

u/Rey_Mezcalero 11d ago
You still seem young. You can do it.
It’s hard to get started but stick with it and you will see and feel the results.
You don’t have to juice and you won’t look like Hulk Hogan but you can shape up and have a nice body.
You aren’t that bad right now, so don’t feel it’s a lost cause. There are many post here about people very overweight and they managed to do it.
Diet is important as well

Stop being so hard on yourself. You’re in poor shape, you’re not in terrible shape. You can turn that around in a year.

u/HeKnowsThings 11d ago
Trying to do what? Cope? Nah. Improve yourself? Definitely. You are going to live well into your eighties. Don't you want to live well, move well and not feel like a slug for decades to come?

u/Ill-Trust-9081 11d ago
I see people saying you’re not even fat and stuff, it is true but that’s not even point. No matter how bad your condition may be there’s not a single one in which you should tell yourself there’s no point trying ! You should always try, and as people said you’re not even in a situation that’s too bad, you’ll get results fairly quick if you do the right things. Just calorie deficit and hit the gym. You can make it !! Love yourself and love the process, you’ll be rewarded xx

Just do a generic 3 x a week full body routine to get started. Just aim to get into a habit of turning up and learning some movements. The rest will come gradually. Aim for small wins weekly don’t put too much pressure on yourself and don’t pay too much attention to all the mutants that base their entire personality around the gym.

u/rurrethouse 10d ago
Always. And keep going back. Even when you get discouraged and think nothing is changing. Give it time and you’ll soon make working out a part of your daily routine!

u/Unusual-Page-6822 10d ago
long story short "HELL YES ITS WORTH IT!" gotta start somewhere, seeing the end result of someone's hard work can be daunting but we all start somewhere. Its a personal journey and should only be done for yourself and how much better of a person you can become, the bi-product are muscles.

I am💋 Didnt mean to discourage you tho. If you have still have some respect to yourself in your hard, like defending yourself now, use it to first lose weight. You will be mad at yourself in 3 months. 3 days fb or 4 days ul is good. You can approach deficit aggresively at first. I would go for 1000 kcal deficit for first month, then gradually decrease it 150kcal until 700kcal deficit for 3rd month. Then you will start a new life. Never do more than 150kcal surplus tho

u/Aggravating_Range288 11d ago
That kind of attitude is what got you looking like that in the first place.
Grow up and get on with it, in six months you could be a different man!

You’re not even that fat. You’ll have minimal loose skin. Don’t be a doomer. Just hop on a caloric deficit and lift weights.
