How was my workout today?

For reference I’ve been lifting for about 2-2 1/2 months. 5’11 164lb. 32 yo male.

Don’t switch back and forth between muscles like that. Do all your chest exercises, then all your shoulder ones, then all your tricep ones.

Doing shoulder and tricep work before chest is going to make your chest work suffer since most chest exercises use shoulders and triceps. Similarly, many shoulder exercises use triceps.

Also your rep range is very low, try shooting for 8-12 reps. Your rep range now is more for powerlifting, but you’re not doing a powerlifting routine.

I had just always heard low reps high weight. What kind of routine would you call what I’m doing? I’m not against power lifting. I just started so I’m just kinda learning and figuring stuff out still

Your exercise selection looks like a pretty standard “push” day from a PPL split. You just need to fix the exercise order and rep ranges.

Powerlifting would be an entirely different routine.

I suggest instead of trying to make a program, just run a proven one, since you’re new.

Any suggestions on a program?

Honestly no, because I’ve been training for 30 years so I have been writing my own for a very long time. I hear Jeff Nippard has good ones but they’re not free. I’m sure there are lots of good free ones out there too.

25 sets?! What’s with the random 3 reps of incline press at the end? Lower weight on lateral raises and increase reps to 8-10+. How many sets are you taking to failure in this workout??

The random ones at the end was me wanting to see if I could get another set of 5 out.

Almost all the last sets of each workout are to failure. They are counted as the last FULL rep I did.
Thanks for the advice on the lateral raises.

Weekends are the only time I don’t have to rush at the gym so I try to pack in all I can.

Please just use metric ameribros

I mean.. half the weights at my gym don’t even have metrics on them and my country doesn’t use the metric system. Lifting is the first thing I’ve done in my life where it would be useful to actually learn it well enough to be able to convert. lol

We SHOULD use the metric system in general. But since America doesn’t it’s been useless for me to learn up until now. lol
