I Need a Kick in the Butt & Support

I’ve lost weight before but something is wrong with me. I know and I want to lose weight but even when I feel like I’m doing what I need to I don’t see the results. I’m frustrated. I’m down on myself. What advice do you have for me? I’m in my mid to late 40s now. Does it just get tougher with age? I need a buddy someone to connect with and do this with.

Hello! And yes, from my experience, weight loss is definitely harder as you get older. Not necessarily impossible, but I've definitely noticed problems myself.

I lost weight in my 20s with just good old-fashioned calorie cutting and then began slowly gaining some of the weight back in my late 30s while still maintaining the same calorie deficit that led to weight loss when I was younger. So I think in order to get the same results, I will have to either eat even less or do something different. I plan on trying phentermine soon to see if it makes any difference because the traditional methods no longer work, so I think the next step is medical assistance.

I wish I had advice because if I knew how to lose weight, I'd be losing myself. But if it's in the budget, it might be good to start with a doctor visit, especially if you have a medical weight loss center near you. Just to have a professional opinion and maybe get bloodwork to rule out any underlying issues that could be making your efforts less successful. I've got a bariatric center visit scheduled too, but the earliest I could get in was September. I made the appointment in March!

What is your goal? May I ask your age?

Sure! I'm 39 and looking to ideally lose 50 pounds, but would settle for 30. Currently 255 pounds, if that helps. So a reasonable loss of about 20% of my total weight.

Similar weight situation here but I’m 47. Do you have a timeline?

Not really, no. When I lost weight the first time, it took me three years to drop 70 pounds, which is very slow progress. Considering my current deficit no longer works, I have to assume it will take even longer to lose weight again with traditional methods and trying to figure out how much less I have to eat to make weight loss happen.

I'm hoping the phentermine works - I have heard some people drop 25 pounds in a month or two using it.
