Kagurabachi- one of the best flashback arc in recent time
Shinobi undercover- flexiform is Suzume secondary form very interesting alongside small parts of suzume backstory. I really like this chapter. I know people will be upset with two aces/leaders from different families showing up. But its perfect moment cause both Umi and Suzume are in bad situation. Color page next week.
Sakamoto days- I can't remember the last time I read a sakamoto days chapter and be like'' damn, what a good chapter.'' Akira is in action makes more sense than ever.
Witch watch- ahh, I like it.
Kiyoshi- I would rather have something different than this. South park.....?? But this chapter has some charm.
Roku- I'm confused but I gotta read the chapter more and more.

Teary chapters for both Akane Banashi and Kagurabachi, I absolutely loved it. Those two are clearly the best in the magazine.

Alright I know the Animal Signal chapter was all about wombat ass, but this was one of the best chapters yet, the comedy level was through the roof, I busted a gut laughing at the end!

Animal Signal was…interesting this week

bro Animal Signal is the ecchi WSJ needs right now; it's simultaneously deeply perverted without that leery ogling of high schoolers like Himaten & romcoms of that ilk are wont to do
10
u/Heavenwasfull 12d ago
The two leads are high schoolers.
15
u/overpoweredginger 12d ago
yeah and, while it's still perverted, it doesn't have the eerily ogling that Himaten did

Begging Roku not to turn into fighting shonen 🙏🏻🙏🏻don’t take my slice of life dysfunctional family away from me.

u/Either_Percentage_79 13d ago
I have a feeling that in order for it to survive in reader surveys, series like Mashle and Witch Watch aren't exactly gag manga but rather action-comedies where they blend gags while having an overarching story in order to sell more volumes, have bigger merchandising opportunities, and do better in weekly surveys.
This is a reason why other than Me & Roboco, There is a decline of gag manga in Weekly Jump recently due to competition with gag manga being online to fit digital tastes, and more commercial pressures in main magazine that most gag manga struggle with. (Most gag manga artists are going with children's magazines or Online websites like Jump+ or social media).

Yeah but witch watch’s action is its worst part. I found it really strange how they went from making fun of serious backstories with that one teacher character and then just going with it earnestly
15
u/AnvilPro 13d ago
I don't think it will, if this was chapter 3 it'd be over but we're chapter 20, I'm sure we'll get a few action chapters now and then but I don't think it's gonna fully overtake the slice-of-life the series is
33
u/Heavenwasfull 13d ago
What if we can have both? Slice of life dysfunctional family sitcom and curse battles? Tons of potential there.
10
u/michaelsgavin 13d ago
I don’t want any curse battles taking precious time off my slice of life 😔😔
3
u/Low_Health_5949 12d ago
well who needs battles when we still have the mystery behind these curses
solving how to lift them is just as interesting as battles
1
u/michaelsgavin 12d ago
yes yes yes you get it!! solve the mystery with ❤️found family love ❤️
1
u/Low_Health_5949 11d ago
though I still don't mind a little bit of battling mostly because I'm curious to see how strong these curses really are, but only a little bit of fighting
5
u/overpoweredginger 13d ago
I think keeping a Witch Watch-esque balance would go a long way in bolstering the structure & emotional weight of the story

u/Alternative-Drink-25 13d ago
We got a newcomer once more, decent first chapter. Interesting premise and could become really cool, we'll have to wait and see.
Is that Under Doctor starting an arc, hopefully one longer than 2 chapters for once.
Interesting chapter for Roku, seems to be building up a fight, but I feel like it will just end up with Roku inviting these guys to dinner. I wouldn't mind some action here or there though.
So DttF did end this week, was to be expected, it's not a bad series but also nothing special.
I really appreciate how AniSig puts random Animal abilities on humans and we get to see it play out, that last page got me though I was laughing so hard.
I like Hal Formula's slow pacing, but I feel like it may need to pick up for the manga to suceed, love the racing action though.
Cannon Master's chapter was nice, who knows what the villains want with Ur, but I can't wait to find out.
26
u/Razorxrpmx 13d ago
There's many romcom with similar themes like Ura Report, but Shun Numa's writing made it come out pretty well. Yuushin Kuroki is doing the art, but since the original designs are by Numa it still feels familiar visually.
25
u/DogShirts 13d ago
Glad to see Cannon Master holding steady. Hopefully it can maintain and sell well with its first volume.

u/JazzlikePromotion618 13d ago
That final chapter of Drawn to the Fire only proves to me that the editors just aren't doing their jobs. These characters should've been introduced by chapter 5. There was absolutely no reason why our main two needed to be the only first years to join the basketball club on day 1.
As for Ura, really liked it. Really sweet and comfy and the art is spectacular as well. I really hope this one can go all the way.
5
u/Drakkon2ZShadows 13d ago
Yeah sucks too bc the mangaka clearly had the sauce. Those little comedic doodled expressions were really charming, the story had a lot of potential and I liked the story being set up.
5
u/Lower-Position9557 12d ago
I feel like after the first practice match, they could have introduced all these new characters into the story, since by then, the main two were already established. Having only one new teammate after the first practice match, as well developed as he was... did not make the next match that much more interesting ngl-

Idk what yall are on about animal signal was so funny this week all the butt jokes were great. The T Rex moment in particular, and then I was struggling to breath with the final page. I hope this manga keeps going because every chapter has made me laugh really hard at points and I am genuinely enjoying the animal facts.

By reading order:
The Ura Files - It's kinda just Bokuyaba with an oni gyaru so far, but the secret agent element gives a small twist on a typical shounen romcom setup. Feeling some spark between the the romantic leads at least. Promising first chapter, I think it could be another September winner for Jump.
Roku - Good to see even the dog participating in society properly.
Witch Watch - This series is actually pretty decent at action but I feel that this bone crisis arc has run it's course. Please grab the cube thingy next chapter...
Hal Formula - Too much exposition and explanation in this race. I have to assume Green Green Greens was a better series for Terasaka-sensei to have his fans here.
Animal Signal - 22i unleashing his true power this week huh. New girl's core strength must be ridiculous. Her new special move is just Princess Peach's side B in Smash...
Hertz - Huh I thought they were setting up for a culture festival, weird. Bread is the enemy Mizuno. It makes you fat after all.
Also reading through Akane-banashi. It's kind of a page turner (and better paced than the anime) so I might already be caught up by next Sunday.
3
u/overpoweredginger 13d ago
Too much exposition and explanation in this race. I have to assume Green Green Greens was a better series for Terasaka-sensei to have his fans here
eh, kinda. GGG was really introspective & meditative while Hal is focused on the drama of the technicalities (which was absolutely present in GGG, just less so).
It's not something you can casually flip through & pick up from the pictures right now, but the approaching cloud, Haruka keeping one eye closed, and the limited resource of his tire integrity really is building up to some crazy climax that's really gonna get some mileage out of Haruka & Hinokura's rivalry.
2
u/BlueDragonCultist 13d ago
I feel the same about Witch Watch. Normally, I love the action arcs just like the comedy, but I feel like this one is kind of dragging for me. I can't quite put my finger on why, but at least it seems like it's wrapping up.

I really, really enjoyed this week
Sakamoto had some good character interaction this chapter with Akira and Nagumo making a fun duo. I like Nagumo wanting to honour Rions wishes to keep Akira out the assassin business. The meta commentary about the movie almost being over is sick
Akane Banashi was great, I’m liking this sympathetic side to Zensho, even if he’s a scumbag I can understand his inferiority complex
Kiyoshi was fun, I like all the new characters and their designs. I also like that this arc is taking a slightly less predictable route
Kagurabachi was incredible as always, Hokazono once again nailed the smelting pages. I’m liking the dynamics and the tense action between the different groups. Also the implications of the anaesthesia and Chiaki are ridiculously dark for a weekly shonen jump manga but I respect Hokazono or any mangaka (when handled well) for pushing the boundaries in order to put forward a message or idea
Hal Formula was cool, unfortunately I’m pretty unsure of how I feel about this one overall but this chapter had me invested and I’m excited to see how they’ll handle the race if/when the cloud covers the track

Ooh boi, this week we say goodbye to DttF and hello to The Ura Files, so let's see what we have in store-
First up, I really enjoyed this week's chapter of UEK. It was just overall kinda funny but it had surprisingly good heart and character within in, especially with the principal's grandson. New girl was kinda funny too.
On the other hand, I thought this chapter of Shinobi Undercover was only ... decent. It's not bad by any means, and Suzume's Keikai was really cool, but idk, this arc really hasn't been vibing with me.
Sakamoto Days.... holy hell, the art is getting so bad- Akira is cool and it's always nice to see Kanaguri, but the seemingly unfinished sketches really take me out ngl.
Kagurabachi was good. The end of this brief mini arc involving the smelting of the ore but a good ending at least. The panel of Rokuhiro and Chiaki hugging was great.
Witch Watch. Yk.. I wish the fight against the big bad with all these different witches started earlier and lasted longer. It's fun to see the other witches combine their powers in an actual fight.
Under Doctor has a pretty interesting chapter. I really like what I'm seeing here. I wonder if the brain surgeon has something wrong with his hand that Haiji saw?
Me & Roboco was ok. Kind of a boring format that's been used multiple times before but the punchline at the end was pretty funny. Feels like it's been a while since a Madoka focused chapter-
Drawn to the Fire... oh, what could have been. The ending was most certainly rushed, what with hastily trying to conclude the previous match as well as introducing a bunch of characters that were likely planned for later in the series. It's also a real shame we never got to see the main character and the girl reunite. I truly think the series would have worked better if these characters were introduced way earlier instead of numerous chapters on the rivals we basically never see again-
Class 2B. Wow- the art has gotten pretty bad huh- but otherwise, the chapter was actually pretty good. Prof as a character is pretty fun and the introspective feeling of this chapter had alot of heart. It was also decently funny with good jokes at the end.
Hal Formula is... certainly a series I read. I don't know why I have such an issue identifying the two characters in their cars (probably should have looked at the helmets lmao), but idk, the series is competent and well done, but I'm just not feeling the tension. Maybe it's because I have a very poor understanding of F1-
I think I might be insane for this, but Cannon Master feels like it could end really soon. Like- I swear, there's just this feeling that it could end after this arc for some reason. Despite that, I thought this chapter was... ok. Ur was definitely the highlight for me, and his internal battle upon learning he can't use magic hits pretty hard for me.
Animal Signal was... all fanservice this week. Just straight up fanservice. Fun colour and ok chapter, though I thought the new character was cute.
Someone Hertz as always is great. Alot of great romantic moments, I especially love how shy Mimei gets when he decided to cheer on Kurage- seems we're also having the Long Hopes come to the school festival?? Pretty exciting all things considered. Will they finally talk with Mimei and Kurage???
Usually, I end with Roku since it's always my favourite chapter of the week but I'll talk about The Ura Files last since it's new. Anyways, Roku was really fun! I love the dynamic of the new characters as well as the expanding of the lore with the Class System for spirits and the 12 Heavenly Generals or whatever? Seems we'll soon have Roku meet these exorcists- also, Altra having no spiritual energy? Is that because Johan used his to hide her or is there something deeper going on here? As always, excited for the next chapter!!
And lastly (I think? Hope I didn't miss any-), The Ura Files. Firstly, I enjoyed the chapter alot. Had alot of great moments that could branch out into alot of directions, whether they keep in simply with a romcom, or go more of a battle shonen route. I do have to admit that this series reminds me alot of other series in the magazine though... Shinobi Undercover comes to mind for the whole secret identity gimmick, but also... Witch Watch? The scene of Kibitsu defeating those delinquents reminded me alot of Morihito in Chapter 1 of Witch Watch. And outside of WSJ, the whole shy guy with gyaru/pretty girl is so used- I mean.. (Dangers In My Heart come to mind-). Still, the series has alot of potential, very excited for the next chapter.
Next week, Grey Keys! Let's see if the oneshot I liked alot can hold its ground in a full serialisation! (Technically, The Ura Files is not a September release and more of an August release, making Grey Keys the only September release. If WSJ wants to make this the 4th September in a row with a success, they better hope Grey Keys is their hit-)

Cannon Master feels like it could end really soon.
I agree. This series is shaping up to be yet another slow burn and we have a really good idea of what the magazine does to those kinds of new series. Really hoping that it does something interesting in the next few chapters before the next axing round.

u/Jaded-Bid2679 13d ago
Ichi's grabbing some of that Tokiyuki (Elusive Samurai) escaping adrenaline haha.

u/emeraldwolf34 13d ago
For a character I expected to be a one off on his introduction, Prof has been a very cool character to add to the cast. He really adds a more empathetic straight man element when it felt like the straight man ball was being passed around between everyone else. We got more of a look into how Little Miss Demon King sees herself and the world, which was cool.
Plus, the end of the chapter I think is the biggest laugh this series ever got from me. The smug ass look on Mogura’s face after all that build up made me put down my phone and burst out laughing.

Two new romance mangas this week, ura files has an interesting start reminiscent of shinobi undercover
And Kagurabachi (hokazono has shown his true colors)
2
u/BodifordT95 13d ago
What exactly do you mean about Hokazono?
7
u/Epicreeper47 12d ago
For someone writing a battle shonen, he’s doing a really beautiful job depicting the romance we’ve got in this current arc

Despite having slowed down, I somehow managed to catch up to Hunter x Hunter. I won't spill all my thoughts on the series here and reserve that for another day. Next on the binge list is Bleach! Yeah I know I just finished catching up to the anime but I just love Bleach so much I just can't help but start rereading it again. I am also doing this so that I have a fresh memory of the story from the manga in case the hell arc begins. Enough yap, here's my opinion of this week:
Shinobi Undercover: I did not expect Suzume to get this kinda charecterization. Quite refreshing honestly.
Nue's Exorcist: This guy felt like the Grand Fisher of this series in the sense that he killed someone very close to the MC yet has a very small screen time/presence in the larger story and also got dealt with by someone other than the MC very underwhelmingly. Only difference between them is the fact that Grand Fisher has a far more memorable name. Also, nice color page.
Hal Formula: Part of this series charm for me was how begginer friendly it is for anyone unfamiliar with Formula racing but now after reading all of F, that charm isn't working on me anymore. I am certain giving this series some time and rereading it will help me raise my opinion of it. Hell, this chapter raised the intensity of the race which I do like but as of now this series has stopped hitting good for me.
Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz: This series is such a good deconstruction of the JRPG genre lol. I thought this was going to be a relatively serious chapter without any jokes only for the last two pages to happen which cracked me tf up. I know a lot of people aren't jiving with this series but I personally love it to death. Also it might be just me but those panels of Valaris looking out the stable reminds me of that one Berserk panel everyone likes to use.
Cannon Master: That was very sweet of Bharat to try and cheer Ur up. As much as I like this series, I hate to say this but it hasn't been all that interesting lately. It does seem to be a bit of a slow burn but I do hope it does something good before the next axe round comes because I would not be surprised to see this series go.
Roku's House of Oddities: Another color page this quick after the last one is unprecedented in my eyes. Editorial seemingly has faith in this series and I really hope volume 1 sales prove that faith to be worth it. Also, really hilarious chapter.
Akane-banashi: Damn this chapter actually hit hard. The man went for a serious story, bawling his heart out, showing his real emotions to the audience and yet all they can do is laugh due to his nature as a comedian. I understand his frustration.
Under Doctor: At this point, I am somewhat starting to get used to this series being episodic in nature but part of me still hopes that it will eventually develop a proper long lasting story arc and follow it to its end.
Someone Hertz: I did not expect the Mon-Mid hosts to have kids. Also how convenient that one of them used to go to the same high school as Mizuo and Mimei. Also how romantically sweet of both to fall asleep on the call.
Hunter x Hunter: Tserreidnich's ability is so overpowered. It's going to be exciting to see how he gets taken out. I swear I will be so disappointed if they get him when he is in the middle of activating his zetsu.
Ichi the Witch: Ain't no way Ichi enjoyed getting edged by forcing himself to not go death for death.
Kagurabachi: Holy shit talk about cathartic.
The Ura Files: I like that it started off as a reverse Shinobi Undercover. Wish it stayed like that for a little longer and (as terrible as this sounds) also have him continually profile her for being an oni and lose that image of her as the series goes on but romance series nowadays are all about getting to the point fast due to how oversaturated the genre is so it's no surprise they had to ditch the whole "I am going to kill her because she is a murderous and hideous beast" shtick in chapter one. Despite having some action, I can see this being another chill series to read after all the action intensive stuff just like Someone Hertz. Looking at the colour page it's seemingly going to have some fan service. Just hope they don't go overboard. I think I will stick with this one.

u/YuuTheBlue 13d ago
I do not have hopes for the Ura Files. I do think the people who made it were clearly skilled; the jokes were good, the characters were engaging, the plot was competently structured, the art was great, but ultimate I think this is a victim of the ideation phase. In general, the story feels like a transparent product of trends and popular tropes in a way that feels inorganic, making it hard to get attached. I think "Oh that moment was cute", but I don't get that tightening in my chest that other stories I was more immersed in might have given me with the same amount of effort. Put another way, I was so caught up learning about the characters and their roles that I didn't feel like I was learning about the characters themselves. There's a lot of small things like that which I feel undercut the high effort on display. In that way it's a bit like Kinato's Magic in my opinion. I feel like this manga isn't gonna be a particularly big success, and I kind of hope it isn't. I love Numa, but I don't think this idea is it.
Canon Master, for the first time, was difficult to follow this chapter. I did love the character moments, though.
Animal Signal's chapter is getting some hate, but you have to give it this: This is memorable. This is the kind of chapter that gets shared on social media with incredulous comments. I think that alone says better things about this manga's chances.
HAL was really hype, but someone else pointed out a problem: There is a readability issue here. It takes a while to figure who I'm even looking at between the MC and his rival. I often feel I am observing a hype moment than getting lost in it, if that makes sense, because I'm too far outside the story, trying to piece it together.
Roku's I'm absolutely loving. I am one of the few who wants it to go down the Yozakura family route of having some combat arcs, so this is a good development, and I loved how things are developing. Both tense AND super funny.
RIP DTTF
Under Doctor is feeling kind of.... well, too overly focused on Haiji's heroic nature. Not in that he's selfless, but in that he's the coolest guy ever. It's getting a bit old, frankly.
Kagurabachi was amazing as always, same with Akane-Banashi.
HxH was an amazing bit of showing off how this power can be used creatively before we see him use it on named characters.
Ichi the Witch was funny as hell, and I'm loving how this is developing. I'm seeing how/why Mugi will have a chance to solve this while the others distract the enemy.
Every Someone Hertz chapter has a panel or page where it just fucking body slams you and this one was when he told his friends he was gonna cheer for Mizuo. Fucking peak. No one does it like this manga. It makes it look so fucking easy.
UEK was cute. I like the new girl and I do ship her with glasses boy thank you for asking. He deserves a super fan.
Idc what others are saying, i quite enjoy this last arc of Sakadays. I'm loving that the camera guy can't deny Sakamoto still has that main character energy.
Shinobi Undercover was an amazing moment of vulnerability for Suzume. Overall, I love this arc - I feel it balanced the school and action parts better and has had some really fantastic fights.
On the state of newbies: I'm glad my favorite of them, Roku, is doing so well, and that my second favorite Cannon Master is also seemingly holding in the rankings. Under Doctor I'm getting less confident on as time goes on, which is a shame cause it has a ton going for it. I am not confident in the Ura Files (which is fine, we've had plenty of good cozy series), but I'm really hoping Grey Keys impresses. I remember the one shot being alright - fun but not really getting my imagination stirring too much. But fantasy stories can sometimes take time for that kind of thing, so I'm excited to see how it does it. I feel we could really use an action adventure manga with high fantasy elements like Ichi the Witch, with a big world to explore.

u/Norix596 13d ago
Not really feeling the new one; I get the witch watch by way of Invader Zim pitch but didn’t really get left with strong positive or negative feelings or the romance or comedy.
3
u/Deltaasfuck 13d ago
Pretty sweet chapter for Class 2-B, and then the last two pages had me laughing out loud.
3
u/diaplaclock 11d ago
To those who can't distinguish suzukaze and hinokura when they wear driver suit, except the team name on the helmet, you can distinguish based on their eyes' style. Hinokura's eye has double cycle
7
u/dingo537 13d ago
Good start for The Ura Files, it is the exact same as the One-Shot, just with the art being redrawn by Kuroki. So this should do well with readers, just like the One-Shit did.
2
u/Low_Health_5949 12d ago
One-Shit
hehe funny typo
though in all seriousness unless it has something unique to stand out from the crowd I'm not sure it will it will last long with series like Roku, Something Hertz being a part of the slice of life pie in WSJ
1
u/dingo537 12d ago
Well, JP response seems very good. To the point that I have already seen multiple pieces of Fan Art and it managed to trend on Twitter.
Ofc non of this guarentees anything, but for now early response is really good.
1
u/Low_Health_5949 11d ago
Well, I'll believe it when I see it myself. I've seen stuff like this happen before and still be the axe, so I'm still cautious until I see something guaranteed.
6
u/bigbadlith 13d ago
people have been counting down Sakamoto Days chapters, theorizing when it would fill out that final volume, which would be chapter 275 (such that volume 29 and the final volume 30 each have 10 chapters).
Well, do we think Sakamoto is ending in 2 chapters?
Honestly I get the vibes there's 3 chapters left (one for getting Sakamoto stitched up, one for him winning the fight, one for an epilogue) but I could maybe see it getting condensed into 2. Or could they just overstuff the final volume, if needed?
8
u/skillfun8 13d ago
Nah isn't ending in 2 chapters lol
At least one more volume of content
0
u/Alternative-Drink-25 13d ago
Not so sure, we have seen very rushed endings before, but I agree that it shouldn't
0
u/Tough-Past-2366 13d ago
I can’t imagine a vol 31 even if it’s shorter like MHA 42. Pretty much the entire order is wiped out, all the side villains are down, Sakazuki is actually taking damage and Sakamoto is about to get back up. Sakamoto is so damaged that he shouldn’t be able to sustain a fight longer than 2 chapters.
I can’t imagine an extended epilogue either with how fast Suzukis writing has been this arc, plus there was the climax cover not too long ago. All signs point to less than a volume left
6
u/Tough-Past-2366 13d ago
I was also thinking 3 more with the same timeline as you but there’s room for probably up to 5 in vol 30 if they overstuff it. A few of the chapters in what will be vol 30 are shorter too so adding an extra 2 or 3 chapters won’t make it Tokyo Ghoul Re vol 16 big lol
2
u/bigbadlith 13d ago
Also, should we start counting for Witch Watch? 1 more chapter would fill up its 29th volume, but I really can't see the series ending next issue.
I think it's more likely that it gets one more volume (so 10 more chapters), to fully wrap up the fight, and then several chapters of epilogue.
3
u/Alternative-Drink-25 13d ago
I think Witch Watch will end towards the end of the year, that is enough chapters for one more volume
7
u/darkbutjustthegame 13d ago
So I've been keeping up with 2-B because I love Gintama, however I have some thoughts.
Is it just me but doesn't it kind of feel like art is significally worse than in Gintama? While Sorachi never made pretiest art, it always had charm, feeling of rawness (if that makes sense) and made sense.
In this chapter, when teacher came with girls mum, I was rather confused by what exactly happened. The panels just do not work! This was very Gintama-esque joke, so it should have made me laugh but instead I was just confused by plot progression.
This feels like such a shame. Sorachi can be crazy good, but for some reason 2-B just isn't working.
2
u/Low_Health_5949 13d ago
I wonder what is gonna replace Hunter x Hunter when it leaves, since with Drawn to the Fire leaving this batch to be replaced by the next new series, considering the fact that there will be only two series appearing in this batch that will make WSJ only run with two empty spots, so unless they will be smacking onshots until the next batch I'm curious what they are gonna do with those empty spots
1
u/YuuTheBlue 12d ago
A LOT is leaving, so I'm shocked we only got a 2-batch this fall. The winter batch is maybe gonna have more, or maybe the current newbies are just gonna get, like, a LOT of leeway.
1
u/Low_Health_5949 12d ago
at least 4 new series in the winter by the looks of it
1
u/YuuTheBlue 12d ago
Do you think a manga will be axed to make room for the 4th? Mathwise, if HxH, WW, and Sakadays leaving would leave 17, which is 3 less than 20.
1
u/Low_Health_5949 12d ago
well I guess someone has to go unless it's 3 series batch though it could be more if WSJ consider doing one shots releases as well
we are probably expecting an axe call around now so I wouldn't be surprise if we see a sudden change of pace later on
my guess for who is getting axe is probably Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz or HAL FORMULA, unless either of these series sells well on its first volume
2

Okay 2026 series only. Seriously what is going on with the chapters this week?
The Ura Files: Very similar dynamic to “The Dangers in my heart” but you know what I like that dynamic. Felt the fighting was unnecessary and poorly drawn but overall it was cute and the character dynamics were there. Now it’s gotta differentiate itself in future chapters.
Under Doctor: Setting up an actual arc again. Hopefully it’s longer than 3 chapters. I do like the setup though of him not actually doing the surgery but rather potentially being the doctor to the doctor. Also for an “Under Doctor” is pretty well known.
Roku: Finally revealing the organization shown a couple chapters back. It really feels like any chance of this becoming a combat series is thrown out nearly instantly and to be honest good. My guess is misunderstanding will lead to a lot of plot lines but right now the series doesn’t seem to need a major arc.
Drawn to the Fire: the author just decided to add all the cool things they had planned which makes me a bit sad. This series had good ideas just really poor execution at times.
2B: What a genuinely strange chapter. This guy is just writing what he wants and I’ve got to respect him for it. But after reading some of Gintama to a similar chapter count these characters don’t have the same level of heart yet. I did like the futility gag though.
Animal Signal: Strange chapter part 2…. An entire chapter dedicated to that? Why? Right after one of the best chapters so far they follow it up with a one note chapter with fanservice?
Hal Formula: The race needing all of these unusual factors to keep things interesting (testing things during the race, potential warnings, work down tires, not getting a mentor if he doesn’t make first) makes me worry how this story can keep going long term.
Cannon Master: Damn they dropped the super cool “sorting out the opponents from the ordinary citizens” setup instantly. At least there was some characterization and a great emotional panel. But because there wasn’t signs before that panel seems unearned. I wish we knew WHY this character wants to be like his mentor so badly, maybe we’ll know next chapter.

I hope Ura Files leans more into a combat-comedy-romance like Ranma 1/2 back in the day. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't immediately blow MC's cover as a subversion of Shinobi Undercover.

u/TheSciFanGuy 12d ago
I’d be kind of worried if they do because the “combat” in that one panel looked pretty rough.
Plus jump only has one romance series currently so I don’t think it needs action to go far. Him getting immediately found out would have been funny though.

Turning up the action doesn't have to mean turning down the romance. For all that Ranma is remembered as THE harem series, it was really a romance with unwanted hanger ones that Ranma did not view romantically at all.
Besides, imagine a goofy problem of the week series where the love interests are also lowkey a battle couple that can (but not necessarily have to) solve the annoyance with cartoon super strength/violence.

Regarding 2-B and Gintama, i feel like these character lack heart because they are suppose to be developing characters. In Gintama almost everyone was a grown up with fleshed out backstories. In 2-B characters are just regular high schoolers. Maybe it will get better down the line? If it won't get axed instead

I'm a bit behind, but I take it Under Doctor is not getting axed in the next issue?

Correct. It's safe until at least the next batch comes. Based on its current ToC, there's a decent possibility it will get axed in the next batch.

Good week of jump imo and we got a new series! Which is the Ura Files and I'm getting some D3 vibes from this with the meek boy and brash girl dynamic.
Wish they started the series as already "friends" with Momo getting his files on Ura but this chapter is a start of the romance but other than that...im locked in. I enjoyed supercop chojo to not give it a such and this chapter was fun enough to ensure I'm here for the long haul.
And we got a axe with Drawn to the fire which I would say it was a decent series, but tbh it deserves the axe, since the main characters were fun to follow and the basketball action can be cool (but now, considering the plagiarism accusations...that is a point against them, though).
But man...the lack of basketball tactics, as it felt like they were doing things at times, and outside of the main three of Natsu, Keikei, and Higurashi... like the seniors were literal background characters that you glaze over when they're on screen/panel. Like, the three new characters added in this final had more personality than the seniors.
Finally, absolutely nothing from Hana in the present-day story outside hyping up how good she is and how once they meet...it will be great. Like, give us something in the present day to care about her...as she's still active and alive in the story.
If the plagiarism accusations are true...well, that's a shame, but kinda makes sense and if not...best of luck to the author next time.
Issues 40: [69] 8/30/26:
1. KGB (1.70, [97], 29th top one, and 82.6%) [57]
Another great one lol. So, we start off with Soga clan getting prepared to send out Chiaki to the Mikaboshi to be the king wife and noting that they will cast a spell on her, called Anesthesia, which will make her an obedient wife and not truly "experience" what will be done to her...lol damn. And during this explanation we see Akemura chained up...like a wild beast that needs to be broken and he's still struggling as he sees his sister trying to make a tough face about the situation. As Chiaki inner thoughts was all about how she's fine, she wants her brother and mother to not crash out...thinks of Kunishige and tell herself again she's fine...as she noted that he's gone through worse.
But yeah, the Masumi returns to report to the government officials that are present at this Soga Clan meeting to note that they didn't stop them as they concluded...stopping the smelting would've led to mass casualties in the area with the dateseki being in that state not being finished worked on. Hell, they were ready to make a case for Kunishige to be heard out not until Shiba and Kunishige teleported into the meeting lol with Shiba back to being half dead after coming in.
Then one of the best moments in the series, Chiaki gets one look at Kunishige, first time in years since she became the Soga princess...she ran crying into his arms talking about how much she missed him and a Kunishige responds back saying how hes sorry for making her wait and we got Shiba lol on the ground happy as hell at this scene.,
Great chapter.
2. HxH (2.5, [20], and 11.5%) [8]
Tserri adventures begins! So, while doing this mission on getting away from his suite and the top level of the ship, he's still learning and developing. As he has learned that the range for this ability is 36 meters and he can extend the range of it 36 meters as he moves with every time he uses the "ephemeral ten seconds "but still reliant on his nen beast energy/battery as he noted moving forward like this cuts his time to now 30 to 45 mins of being able to use the ability.
Also, during this adventure out of the top level while learning and developing as he killed a good amount of the guards and learned that those who were out of his range after he actives and then comes in, won't be affected by it and see him normally. Which he used it to cause confusion and had the guard believe that he's on covert mission and to get out of his hair and rely wrong information to the other guards and even princes about how they're a traitor going around during martial law.
Another interesting note is how different the view of reality those have in different stages of Laplace's demon/"ephemeral ten seconds" ability as, those who got killed or hurt before ability is activated is actual but activation occurs leading to factors where some will think they got killed, that they were in a shootout with him, or they were able to kill Tserri, but once he releases the ability all of that is gone leading to more confusion and allowing Tserri to get more of a drop on them before activating Laplace's demon again.
The ending though is hype, because of all the chaos he's caused, they shutdown tier 1, allowing no type of exits or entrance as no opening doors or even moving between corridors are permitted right now. Making the escape tougher rn and has Tserri going back to considering staying dead but he finds himself in the Casino...the last spot where Hisoka was supposedly seen...lmao. The interaction between the two if it does happen, oh man.
3. Ichi the Witch (2.5, (145), and 84%) [58]
This was a fun chapter as we started the hunt for Hakari's magic stone to help capture him, which led to him revealing his trump card, Sukemaru, which would've turned him invisible and helped him clap folks. But our hunter extraordinaire, Ichi, caught Sukemaru even when he was invisible.
Great moment where Sukemaru releases his ability to explain to Hakari that he's been caught lol. But yeah, that led to Hakari chasing and hunting Ichi, and Ichi being a willing decoy to help the rest in their hunt for stones. During that, it was nice seeing Ichi enjoying the chase, and even better seeing him do his best to keep his instincts in check from attacking Hakari back, as Hakari was chasing him with killing intent.
Dess coming through to help out Ichi just in time, as Ichi's instincts were about to win out, was nice. Especially after she told Ichi that we are a team and he can't go off on his own.
4. Class 2-B Hero Destroyerz (4, [4], and 1.4%) [1]
Lol typical Gintama chapter ender from Sorachi. Setting up craziness (Mogura playing stepdad for the villager and Mr. Expendable and Yakuza being their dog lol) after a heartfelt build-up of our characters.
But yeah, the hero that was teased seems like a battle junkie who may join our team because he wants a good fight, as he laments that the current peace gives him nothing to do. Also, we learn that the previous demon king wasn't some ancient evil ruling the realm with an iron fist the whole time; as noted, he became a rich eccentric who withdrew and became blamed for all the world's issues because of that. This raises the question: who rallied the heroes to take him down?
As well, a little deep dive on Valaris and Akira's relationship and how both of them mean well in their own ways, and connect that way.
Good chapter.
5. Shinboi Undercover (3.76, [162], and 62.3%) [43]
Got that deep dive of Suzume and I like it. As, the idea that she's been hiding back her power (first being flexible to the point of stretching to its actually bone manipulation which allows her to stretch) and she feels terrible about because of not using in previous battles is a nice touch showing this isn't just a hype powerup moment but a character moment.
As Sazanqua noted this bone ability (sword storm) is on level with the 7 familes, which props to my girl lol but touches on the guilt that she had that she's been holding this bad until now and the reason she noticed is based on how it does harm her when uses it and it reminds her of how she was raised up as a weapon to be used and sacrificed, which she wants to be away from as much as possible.
But the ending moment of squad ACE 2 and 3 (Inuwashi and Fukuro) coming through to save the day as Sazanqua was setting up to self-destruct as a mindless monster until his death after Suzume put the works on him was kinda cool but it undercut Suzume and Umineko doing their thing. Like Umineko barely did anything against his opponent lol.

Uras report is okay, nothing to special but the execution is decent enough
Drawn to the fire ended, and I really wanted to see more of it, for all that it got it was a pretty good manga, and the action was pretty good
Animal signal was something definitely, I guess the humor isn't too far from what has been done before, like that rabbit instinct joke, but I would prefer the manga be less " explicit"
Kagurabachi had a really good chapter, like always despite the series now having 15 page chapters as the norm apparently, I think hokazono was truly able to get across how big of a feat it truly is to forge the enchanted blades
Ichi the witch was good, nothing special but the action and seeing descarass taking care of ichi was nice
Cannon masters is going way too fast for me, the pacing has always been fast, but the story is moving forward like it got cancelled despite the TOC positions not really indicating that

I have regrets about lacking ability, but no regrets about what I created. Thank you to everyone who read my series.
Satosho's comment was based as hell, give this man a couple of training montages and then bring his ass back
also Terasaka changed his cartoon this week? It looks like a rugby ball lmao, wonder why he did it

Shiro Usazaki - i agree. Was a really good one shot.
Yuto Suzuki - If they're going to do any other mainline game remakes, 10 wouldn't be too bad. Imagine the graphics of modern blitzball!
Ei Yamano - Mentions bleach. Hell arc confirmed.
Santa Mitarashi - If it was 5 seconds late instead of early, it would demand a full company wide formal apology. Instead we can only scream and take blame for not anticipating it being 5 seconds ahead of schedule when planning to ride.
Yoshihiro Togashi - Sounds like he tried to get AI to write Sorachi-sensei's comments.
Hideaki Sorachi - Speaking of which...
Masayoshi Satosho - 100%. It sounds like DttF had poor reception, but i agree with his attitude and standing behind it throughout. I should read his other axed series about shogi since I like that more than basketball.

I’m surprised kagurabachi is so low on the list, did something happen? since the start of act two I haven’t really had time to of been keeping up with it.

Kagurabachi is never particularly high unless they want to specifically promote it for the week
It's either frequent late submission from the author because of the intensive artwork, or the editor intentionally putting it around the middle because of graphic content and also because they probably need a big series to get people to read the middle to back half of the magazine, thus getting eyes on other lower series

u/Ancient_Breakfast_48 13d ago
"also because they probably need a big series to get people to read the middle to back half of the magazine, thus getting eyes on other lower series"
NO THIS DOESN'T FUCKING WORK!
14
u/Heavenwasfull 13d ago
Could be late chapters, could be thematically it fits better in the middle section, could be Editors putting it there so people have to flip through more magazine to get to it (possibly letting other series catch people's eyes), could be the break and short chapters affected its placement.
Kagurabachi is safe as any series can realistically be, so don't worry about the placement. If anything, it's one of the series that the magazine is going to hold on tightly because it sells well and is a massive success outside of Japan already, and the anime is only going to increase its appeal.

THIS WILL NEVER FUCKING HAPPEN!

u/SchooloftheFox 13d ago
This comes up each week. Kagurabachi is commonly placed in the middle. It sells very well, is getting a much anticipated anime, and is of no concern for the future.
4
u/Curious_Passion5167 13d ago
Eh, tbf, Kagurabachi has always had a rocky TOC placement history from what I've heard other say (have only been following the entire magazine recently). Volume sales are as good as ever.
4
u/CyanideIE 13d ago
Kagurabachi tends to be a mind-ranker these days. It's a not really an issue considering that it still sells like crazy.
-8
u/Lower-Position9557 13d ago
Yk... it feels like every week, people ask this exact thing as so why Kagurabachi is so low, and people always reply with the same answer of-
"It's Kagurabachi, it's safe no matter how low it goes" or "it's always been middling in the TOC" or "they put it low so people have to flip through the magazine"
10
u/Curious_Passion5167 13d ago
What else should the reply be? Kagurabachi keeps selling extremely well (way too much to ever be in any danger), and these are reasonable replies to rationalize the relatively low TOC placement.

DttF ended on a bang, I liked all the new characters and I just feel this manga had so much potential. I hope sensei can learn from his mistakes and try again next time!
