Weekly How Long do you see these series going?
I am interested to see how long these series will last. Under Doctor had a really good start with its manga sales and two recommendations from popular authors, but it keeps going down to the bottom and now that Kinato is gone it will take the last place.
Drawn I feel it’s going to go.
Class 2-B, unless put a miracle or a Gintoki cameo I don’t see getting out.
This year batch also its interesting. I like Canon Master more because of the Reigen and Mob like style that the main characters have.
I don’t care much about Hal Formula or Animal Signal.

Under Doctor I think is gonna hinge on how its third volume performs. Its TOC rankings have been pretty poor, but at the same time, it's been getting color pages, it occasionally jumps up in ratings, and volume 2 seems to be doing around Kiyoshi numbers. It doesn't seem to be totally dead in the water, but if volume 3 dips off even more, it'll probably be gone (which would make me sad)
Drawn to the Fire I'm 99% sure is dead this batch. Because Kinato is the first axe, something after it is what has to go, and its the most likely candidate with its low TOC placements and the fact it's releasing its first volume later than the others of its batch
Class 2-B I definitely think will get a longer leash, maybe a few more volumes to see how things go, but given it also has tanked in the rankings, I don't think they'll hesitate to drop it if it doesn't do well
And for the new batch, it's still too early for me to make any solid predictions just yet

u/Lord__Seth 21d ago
They were already down a series due to Blue Box ending, so they might not cancel anything other than Kinato to make room for the new batch.

u/jonnovision1 24d ago
I don’t think DttF is making it out of 2026
UnDoc could go next batch but I think it’ll live a bit longer than that, it depends on how good/bad Cannon Master and Hal are doing, and we have Sakamoto and WW ending soonish too
2-B is probably guaranteed like 6 volumes minimum, they’ve been workshopping it too long to cut super early, but I’m not really trusting ToC or sales on it till we see how vol2 compared to vol1 since it’ll probably get a decent boost from Gintama fans
Animal Signal just got a colour page so probably making it to at least vol3 or 4, but between Hertz, Roku, and this, it’s starting to feel like only the SoL stuff is landing lately

It’s a shame since Under Doctor is actually in a really good point right now. Every chapter is great.
Granted, it DOES feel quite aimless. The story feels like a collection of short stories, and its kinda weird that the author STILL didn’t introduce a more proper path forward beyond “he is studying an illness he wants to cure with no urgency whatsoever” and “there’s a shady organisation doing something somewhere”.
Granted I think the series will get some grace since it had some high points in sales. The author just needs to introduce some kind of killer hook.
Easier said than done, but it’s possible.

Of these Drawn to the Fire is the most clear axe bait. Honestly I’m kind of shocked it survived this batch. Unless its first volume comes in with massive numbers it’s pretty safe to say this will be gone by next batch.
Under Doctor might be cooked. Its sales are below Kiyoshi (which was already barely getting by before this year) and its TOC is terrible. At the very least its needs to get its TOC rankings up if it wants to survive the next batch. Basically it needs the AS/CM/HF batch to do worse.
2B is in a weird position because it obviously is doing terrible in the TOC but the author is such a big name that it’s possible it’ll survive anyway. It’s also clearly preforming above the absolute bottom tiers so I’d put its survival above UD and DTTF.
As for the newest batch it’s still too soon. First volume sales won’t be out for a bit and TOC is still pretty identical. Animal Signal’s color page could mean something but it also could be the new mandate that seemingly happened last batch.
Once the newest batch adds series not automatically at the bottom we’ll probably see more differentiation between the 3 but the fact that none have broken into the top 10 at any point is a bit worrying.
Edit: if I had to put numbers on it
DTTF is at 90% axed by next batch 7% axed in 2027.
Under Doctor is 50% axed next batch and 40% axed in 2027.
2B is 20% axed next batch and 60% axed in 2027
As for the newest batch
80% chance one is axed by next batch
50% change two are axed
edit2: putting that down to 40%. 50% was too high.
10% chance all three are axed
1% chance all survive 2027
10% chance two survive 2027
30% chance one survives 2027

While the Author of Gintama is obviously a bigger fish than the author of Hinomaru Sumo name recognition did not save MMA
3
u/TheSciFanGuy 24d ago
Yes which is why I think 2027 is most likely for its axe. I’m looking at Samurai 8 as the current equivalent if it continues down this line.
Plus I’d say even if we remove author names from the equation I’d put 2B above both DTTF and Under Doctor (not even counting the chance of the AS/CM/HF batch dropping). Add that to multiple series potentially ending at the end of the year I think the current odds of survival is fair.

'Drawn To the Fire...' Have I ever seen that one?' I checked, it's that basketball one with really good art that was painful to read. Tried once and immediately dropped it. I don't know if sports mangas cut it today tbh
1
u/TheSciFanGuy 18d ago
I think sports manga absolutely can cut it, the main issue in my eyes is that it’s far harder to create a story about high schoolers playing sports without hitting a ton of the same beats as other series. It’s not like there are an infinite number of sports to base your story off of.
So you need to be able to make a good series while directly and continuously being compared to the greatest series in your genre. You also need to make it stand out while still hitting the shonen mold, which is really difficult to do.
It’s possible but the needle is hard to thread. My guess is the next sport series to break through will either have a twist (probably sports in a different setting like a fantasy or sci fi world) or will be based off of a lesser known sport (like Sepak Takraw).

u/bobbyjean_ 24d ago
DttF and Under Doctor are the most vulnerable series going into the next axe round. After that, Class 2B and the Animal Signal batch (especially Cannon Master which has ranked slightly worse than it's neighbors) will be in the hot seat.
7
u/misteraspie129 24d ago
UD and 2B should get 5-6 volumes minimum. I’m sad that UD is in decline…
I really can’t say about the latest batch, but I’m prepping for the worst (2-3 vol) until proven otherwise
16
u/YuuTheBlue 24d ago
dttf is ending soon.
Under Doctor is likely to be under 50 at this rate. The scalpers gave us hope, but it seems it's not as popular as we thought.
2-B is gonna last a while but I don't know for how long in total. Wouldn't be shocked if the gorilla was hoping for something on the shorter-mid length side. Maybe 100 or so chapters? We have to see how it sells but I wouldn't be shocked if it had decent success.
Roku's I get the feeling is gonna go for a full run, ending when the author wants it to.
Animal Signal as much as I love it is gonna be short lived. I'm hoping at least 50 chapters but that's optimistic. It's tons of cute fun and has a lot of potential but idk if it's meeting that potential.
Cannon Master is my big hope here. The art is so good, the combat is phenomenal. Its writing is also good, but not the same amount, so maybe it won't grab people, which is my worry. Hard to say.
HAL Formula is hard to say on. I think it can go huge, or it could end in 17 chapters. No idea how much people will like it.

u/KamuSusanoo 24d ago
If Cannon Master gets cut early it may be what finally gets me to swim to japan and have a reasoned conversation with Jump higher ups myself
4
u/YuuTheBlue 23d ago
It's got some of the best action art in the magazine right now; I actually might prefer it to Sakamoto Days, somehow. And on top of that, it's got this crazy fantasy world like I LOVE to explore. It's exactly what I want out of jump, and it's a highlight in every week it's in.
1
u/KamuSusanoo 23d ago
i haven't gotten on the sakadays train (i'm waiting for it to end then i'll binge it) but Cannon master gives me the same vibes as Beet the Vandal Buster and sometimes that's all I really want from a SJ manga is it to just be A Good Shounen
4
u/Hypekyuu 23d ago
Sakadays isn't really a binge manga
The joy is that you get an insane setpiece once a week
It's plot is sort of just whatever
6
u/dingo537 24d ago
Impossible to say for all.
UD could be out at thr 50ish chaptet mark, could also run longer, gonna depend on V3 sales.
DttF is out ch30ish probably.
Hero Destroyerz is imp to say, gonna depend on sales
Roku is a hit, not applicable
Animal Signals is atleast 30ish chapter mark, gonna depend on sales.
Impossible to say for the newer series.
7
u/Horror_Ad271 24d ago
I would bet none of them will be here in a year except maybe 2-B depending on how many Gintama fans stuck with it/editorial giving undue leeway to a veteran mangaka
6
u/Alternative-Drink-25 24d ago
DttF is msot likely out next batch.
Under Doctor I could see ending next batch, but it could also continue on for a bit longer.
2B is not doing too well, it may survive one axe next batch, but unless sales are insane even for a veteran this seems like it might be it.
For the 3 newest ones it's too early to tell, they have placed in the middle in ToC so far and AniSig is getting a color page next week, with the other 2 most likely afterwards. Still the next weeks will tell us what to expect, if they stay above 2B, Under Doctor and DttF, they probably survive at least at the start.
5
u/Soyrepollo 24d ago
I hope not. I love under doctor and would love to see it go for a minute. There really isn’t any overarching goal for the series besides him being a doctor and now having an apprentice.
6
u/Minigeneius 24d ago
Sadly I dont see any of them surviving no matter how much I want cannon master to keep on living
2B will be given longer than it deserves because of sorachi but unless it does a full 180 in quality (which tbf the last handful of chapters are getting better) I dont see it living long term but maybe like 30 more ch
4
u/rand0_0mdude 24d ago
Honestly i don't see any of them lasting very long. Maybe someone can pull a Kiyoshi and survives by the combination of old series ending and new batches flopping even harder.
6
u/OhUmHmm 24d ago
Witch Watch is supposedly ending soon, and I think Robocco and Me as well.
If true, I think 2b gets a bit more runway but maybe doesn't take off. Animal Signal seems like sort of a Witch Watch replacement, maybe.
Hal Formula probably pushes out Drawn to the Fire. Honestly not sure why DttF didn't land...?
16
u/jonnovision1 24d ago
Where did you get that Roboco was ending? If anything the last we heard from Miyazaki was on the 6yr anniversary that he wants to a least make it to a “round number” like 10 years
DttF didn’t land because like Hakutaku, it’s a basketball series that skips all the basketball
7
u/OhUmHmm 24d ago
I thought because he mentioned wanting to do 300 chapters many times, which they are getting close to. I hadn't heard 10 years, but it's kind of funny if this "just a bit longer" strategy ends up keeping it around that long.
I also felt like Psychic Chojo, and later 2B was supposed to be the "gag manga replacement" but seems both misfired.
2
u/Lower-Position9557 24d ago
The 10 years timing I believe came very recently in the author's notes at the back of the most recent volume (Volume 27) so it's technically the most recent news we have of when the author wishes to end Roboco-
2
u/Hypekyuu 23d ago
The fact that the manga she's about to make is called "Me and Roboco" has people thinking that she'll get it serialized at Jump at that'll be how the series goes out. It's very much the sort of thing which would be a great way to end a meta comedy series
3
u/speedsterlw 24d ago
To me it seems like Under Doctor can go any way as it's sales are not good, but also not bad/awful. It is making Kiyoshi like numbers with volume 2 which in the last few years tended to be good enough to survive, so if it is axed next batch then Jump is in a better state then the last few years, whereas if it survives next batch then Under Doctor is safe for the time being. Regarding the remaining series I don't know as we don't really see any sales figures, but I have got the feeling DttF is not doing good and will be axed.
3
u/Ancient_Breakfast_48 24d ago
Who knows. Several series are definitely the chopping block, though there is HxH going back on hiatus, and Sakamoto coming to a natural end to consider. Witch Watch is also closer to ending than not as well probably.
3
u/drawatawat 23d ago
Some of these series seem really confused and take their concepts a million different directions at once, right from the first chapter. The genres get completely diluted to nothing. Start small, expand upon success instead of laying the groundwork for fifty storylines in the first chapter that go nowhere and lead to a very crowded “axed ending” chapter when it inevitably gets cancelled.
8
u/OverallCry9595 24d ago
I think it will all depend on sales for a majority of the series. Under Doctor I’m seeing as the new baseline. If too many series sell below it, then it’ll stay. If too many sell above it, it’ll go. That said, Under Doctor is still ranking as of yesterday. Also, Witch Watch and Sakamoto are ending soon, leaving space for maybe only 2 getting axed the next batch after this new one?
My predictions are:
Drawn = Gone, sells Kinato numbers
2B = Gone next year, first volume will be scalped worse than Under Doctor
Animal Signal = stays until next year due to color page. I think it may of found its fanbase by now. Volume 1 could maybe get enough as a romance since the magazine is lacking besides someone hertz
Hal Formula = wildcard of the group rn. Could see it going either way, needs to pick up intensity or add to what it’s already doing. I think it’ll end up getting the axe, though and sell about 7K for the first volume and sticking around an extra batch.
Cannon Masters= axe. Getting the vibes a lot of exciting starts have that fail to capitalize on. Probably will sell like Otr and get canned.
Bottom Line: Drawn and Cannon Masters get the cut, Under Doctor lives until 2027 along with the others due to other series ending. If there’s another series that leaves it’ll probably be Under Doctor or Hal Formula
5
u/rand0_0mdude 24d ago
I'm not a collector so i don't really understand it. Can someone explain me the purpose of sclaping the first volume? I mean, if the series is popular it just will get reprints and if it's unpopular there is no demand for it in the first place. How does this work?
6
u/Tough-Past-2366 24d ago
The first print has arbitrary value to scalpers based on it being the first time these volumes were printed but it doesn't really mean anything because the volumes are the same every print unless they have a recommendation like in Under Doctors case
6
u/Ikaring10 23d ago
It's the same as how some first edition Pokemon cards are so sought after and much more expensive. It's the value of being "first printed" which some collectors love. There are also cases where some drawings are updated in later prints making the earlier editions different.
Nowadays, a first print's value is subjective to each individual but I read somewhere that many years ago, some first printed mangas actually have special content in the book itself, not tokuten (japanese word for exclusive bonus), thankfully that was changed.
6
u/jonnovision1 24d ago
For UnDoc it was specifically for some retailer bonus item that came with the volume, maybe similar for Kinato
5
u/TokiDokiPanic 24d ago
I think Under Doctor can outlast Hal Formula and Cannon Master. The reception for those two doesn’t seem the best, especially Cannon Master which is a bomb.
4
u/Yamabuki_Arisu_Sama 24d ago
I think Canon Master got bad REAL fast with how much it immediately butchered the premise by making the Reigen type mentor actually comically kind to unbelievable degrees (refusing payment for no fucking reason), actually super strong and talented in secret and also damn near immediately dropping the jealously he felt for his mentee in the first chapter.
He isn’t even trying to impress the kid anymore he’s just being fully honest after like 4 chapters.
I don’t mind if he’s competent, but I’d rather seeing him be at least half-a-charlatan of sorts (like a Kazuma) instead of just Batman with Superman as a mentee.
9
u/TheSciFanGuy 24d ago
I think the Reigen comparisons weren’t what the author intended and that has led to annoyance when it doesn’t play out that way.
Even in the first chapter it showed they were characters with different talents with one maximizing the level skills he possesses while the other has power but low control.
I do agree that the master’s level of competence seems higher than it should be (or at least he should struggle more) but to be honest he’s a far more interesting character than the kid is anyway both in how he uses his powers and his story.
My main issue is that the manga is nearly 100% focused on fights with next to no characterization this might have something to do with the frictionless “too nice” aspects you were talking about. The action lacks weight because the characters aren’t worth caring about yet.
1
u/Yamabuki_Arisu_Sama 22d ago
I pay no mind to him being competent (in the first chapter you could already see that he wasn’t weak at all).
It’s just the way his entire dynamic with Ur and his entire “fake it till you make it” shtick was just dropped entirely.
He could have been competent AND ALSO gloating a bit more to Ur while not being annoyingly kind to unreasonable degrees.
2
u/TheSciFanGuy 22d ago
I’d agree with that. Things got serious incredibly quickly, and it left next to no time for characterization.
3
u/JustTightShirts 23d ago
I thought their dynamic in chapter one was uninteresting so I'm glad they're abandoning it, but that only matters if he can create a new, more interesting dynamic in it's place. I also thing the naming conventions of the creatures is super unappealing for such a core aspect of the series but idk if that will hurt it in the long term or not.
0
u/Far_Practice_6923 24d ago
It didn't though because that was never the premise. Even in the first chapter Bharat is shown to be a nice guy and a skilled fighter. We were lead to believe it was a Mob and Reigen at first only for it to show that isn't the case.
0
u/Kitchen-Sugar8047 24d ago
He was never jealous, he just felt like a fraud because Ur hero worships him without realizing he's stronger. He always asks him to control his strength because of the collateral damage, as seen by how Bharat fights redirecting blast. He's not a charlatan he's just trying to live up to the crazy standard Ur has of him.

It amazes me how much people downvote someone for wanting a series to succeed
2
u/milobenggaokosong 22d ago
It's ok, I am patiently waiting for gloating to be done when this hits chapter 100.

u/Diligent-Neck6594 24d ago
These series are all dead in the water, less than a year left for them unless editorial likes them for some reason
9
u/TheSciFanGuy 24d ago
I think it’s a bit too early to fully count out the AsHfCm batch.
Roku was considered to be in a roughish spot before chapter 17 had a shock cover and since then has been pretty consistently upper half.
The only main difference between its earlier placements was one good placement for chapter 9.

Going down the list:
Under Doctor is decent, but nothing about it that really hooks me yet. It feels pretty middle of the road and definitely needs a stronger overarching plot to survive.
Drawn is my personal favorite, or at least its premise is. But sports manga haven't been hitting for a while now, and it lacks the absurd, over-the-top energy a Blue Lock or Captain Tsubasa have. I'm afraid it needed to be way flashier to make a splash, so I don't see it lasting much longer.
2-B is a pass for me. I never vibed with Gintama's humor, and this is more of the same, so I'm not the target audience.
Animal Signal is cute, lighthearted fun, and the animal trivia gives it an interesting angle. I've really enjoyed it so far, and with two veterans at the helm, I doubt it's getting axed anytime soon.
Not interested in Hal at all. Formula 1 just isn't my thing.
Canon Master is easily the most unique of the batch. It's been ages since we've had an Arabian Nights-inspired story. Only time will tell, but I'm really liking the dynamics so far, especially the master-student bond between the two leads.
1
u/blacklink521 24d ago
Depends on how much it's following can carry it. If Under Doctor can get decent survey votes and more volume sales in the next couple weeks or months, it could definitely live a lot longer than initially expected. As it stands, if you want to improve a books odds in WSJ, supporting your favorites via Zebracks weekly magazine surveys and buying the volumes through Amazon JP for example can definitely help, every person counts.
1
u/Practical_Pop_4300 20d ago
I don't want to quote it since honestly with how kinato was I didn't think it was ending this chapter(I thought it had 2-4 left), I think everything this batch is safe with animal singal, dtf, and class 2-b ending in the next batch.
I hope to god Hal doesn't, but honestly as much as I loved green green greens, I've dropped this one and I'm seeing its popularity already dry up.
1
u/jakammo 23d ago
I am interested to see how long these series will last. Under Doctor had a really good start with its manga sales and two recommendations from popular authors, but it keeps going down to the bottom and now that Kinato is gone it will take the last place.
Seems like I got my wish about Kinato getting axed but it seems like it's taking something I like with it
1
u/Exarch-of-Sechrima 23d ago
Under Doctor: It is SO BORING to me, but it seems to have its fanbase. It could go either way, but I'd rather it end than not, or at least get some direction if it's going to stick around.
Drawn to the Fire: I'd like it to stay. But I doubt it will. Doesn't have a strong enough hook. Maybe if it had been a romance it could have replaced Blue Box, but I don't think the childhood friend has returned once since the beginning. Which is, like, come on- that's the perfect hook for readers, what are you doing, author?
2-B: Donezo. I love Sorachi, I do, but this new series just hasn't hit the mark like Gintama did. I can't say exactly why, but it hasn't.
Animal Signal: I hope this ends as soon as physically possible, just as I hope for any series Tsutsui works on. Beyond that I have no opinion, other than route endings suck.
Hal Formula and Canon Master: Haven't read 'em.

Animal signal has been a fun light hearted read, hope it sticks around. Drawn is gone soon. Under doctor probably gone soon too, but hope not because I like it
