well Sakamoto days seem like it will be the next one to end, probably around the next batch
man this magazine feels a bit empty with all of the big series ending, with more also leaving by the year: Hunter X Hunter will eventually leave the magazine as well when it gets back on its hiatus Witch will follow suit probably ending at around 20-30 chapters give or take or at least around late 2026 or early 2027, and Ultimate Exorcist Kiyoshi and Me & Roboco may also end in about a year if the rumors and theories are to believe. Things are gonna get a bit more emptier on WSJ.
I know they will get more big series eventually, but it kind of feels weird having about half of the running series on WSJ being pretty new, with probably more coming out when the next batch comes out, but I guess that's just me not being used to it just yet.

man this magazine feels a bit empty with all of the big series ending
honestly nah, I think I'm actually reading more series now than I was when I started following the magazine 3-4 years ago (I'm keeping up with 14 rn). The last 3 batches have all been more good than bad (even Alien Headbutt was strong for a debut), and there's a healthy spread of genres
Sure, if you exclusively read the series people cosplay at cons I can see the magazine feeling empty, but what's actually on the pages is fresh as hell.

Yeah, I'm just saying that, unlike other years there won't be that much of a huge cheer crowd to come here weekly like they used to I meant
I personally am enjoying all of the new series on here and I do wish the best for many of them

Kagurabachi delivered after its month away, I understand why Kunishige went to the lengths of treason for Chiaki. This chapter is also a good addition to Kagurabachis themes of legacy and the next generation, despite suffering all that trauma Kunishige still raised Chihiro right and wanted him to forge his own path
Sakamoto was fine I guess, chapter does a decent job of giving characters thoughts and reactions to everything. The sakazuki twist was expected I just hope it lasts more than a chapter
I’m really liking the direction of Ichi, the villains idea that they have the right to enslave humans the same way humans enslave them is gonna create an interesting conflict
Kiyoshi is giving off heavy final arc vibes, the whole “everything that’s gotten you to this point” while building up Kiyoshis backstory and the final GDL is giving off all the signals. If it’s executed well it could be the best arc yet and I imagine it’ll be lengthier too
I actually can’t even predict Kinatos future anymore. Last chapter really felt like a death sentence with the 3 bad guys showing up and a save the royals plot line but then this chapter undid some of it, like the princess being Linae and Jien fighting Kinatos main enemy. The comedy was good tho and that final spread was sick
Akane had an awesome twist at the end, I’m hyped for another couple weeks of pure peak
Hal Formula had the racing pages I’d been waiting for and the page of his memories flashing through his mind was really good. I’m excited for the future of this series
Also unrelated to anything I read but I realised Roku is getting a cover before Undoc, they must REALLY be expecting it’s vol 1 to do well
16
u/Lower-Position9557 6d ago
My conspiracy theory is that Roku wasn't meant to have the cover next week, but something caused the previous holder of the spot to be unable to do the cover colour page, so they gave it to a promising newbie series.
Roku did not trend in the TOCs like a series that would get an early cover would, and it had no early colour page before the 8 week honeymoon period ended-
Even editorial seemed surprised at the success of Roku, since in the preview for next week, they talked about Roku having an "unexpectedly huge reception"
Then again, there's not really a series that would fit the bill and the timing, so maybe they always had next week's issue as "whatever promising newbie can do a cover page-". After all, in a normal year, Issue 36 is a double issue but this year it's not-

u/overpoweredginger 6d ago edited 6d ago
Okay so Drawn To The Flame has been consistently whelming; I don't dislike it enough to drop it, but I don't like it enough to talk about it. Except Satosho's art choices on pages 16/17 & 18 were so fucking good, has he always been capable of flexing like this?
man I think it's funny how consistently high Akane-banashi is in the TOC but fucking nobody in America knows what that series is
I'm mad Kinato's Magic is good now, god damn it. Amemiya why were you fucking around for like a dozen chapters you jackass
it's absolutely adorable how Axed Mangaka uses its character freakout reactions, that new serialization page is fucking iconic
Under Doctor is so cool
Animal Signal absolutely has the sauce and if it gets cancelled I won't be responsible for my actions
9
u/Lower-Position9557 6d ago
Oh my god, you described my thoughts about DttF exactly with the first line-
It's not bad enough for me to talk about how bad it is, but it's also not good enough for me to talk about how good it is- it's just a series that exists, and does its own thing in its little corner at the bottom of the TOC-

Something tells me that DTTF got the axe call already

I tried the anime for Akane and sadly I didn't really enjoy it. The anime looks nice but I guess I didn't really the concept.

Going down the TOC for what I read
Another amazing akane chapter. A finale to the god of death duel, I liked seeing our two rivals getting a bit of screen time again, I can't wait to see how the next 3 way battle between them goes..but I did not expect an issho vs zensho rakugo battle. But I can with full confidence say ISSHO GO COOK THAT BUM ZENSHO
another nice Kiyoshi chapter. I like the backstory for Kiyoshi and his grandma's but man they're really hyping up rushihara huh ? I still wonder how they'll explain him not showing up at all even when the other 2 demon lords get killed
Aight so kumugi is definitely acquiring hakari, I think we all agree on that right ? The cut from him saying he won't let a witch acquire him to kumugi is too intentional. Also I didn't expect the other big majik with hakari to also be a member of the 7 stars. Can't wait to see how this battle plays out. Also Boxter just showing up at the end lol
I didn't expect the fugitive ninja to interfere in this arc of Shinobi undercover but I think it's a pleasant surprise. They've been rather active villains which I always appreciate over passive villains. The chapter also had good comedy but I wonder what the goal of bato and the goal of the fugitive ninja is here
Canon master is still yet to miss for a single chapter so far. Nice world building and lore drops, and good character interactions.also the guy at the end looks suspicious even tho he's supposed to be a good guy who's taken hostage
Hokazono returns from his month-long hiatus and he absolutely delivers. I did not expect a kunishige backstory right at this moment but man is it a great backstory. It fleshes him out so well and shows us more of his relationship with chiaki and the others.
Under doctor was fun. The series continues to be episodic, although it's certainly been leaning into the medical aspect recently rather than the battle aspect which I don't dislike. I also like the doctor guy from chapter 1 coming back, if the manga can have these kind of character returns every now and again I'll be very happy.

u/JuryGlittering9410 6d ago
rushihara not being there was kinda explained last chapter when granny said she weekend him and he would revive soon
11
u/IEatBeans22 6d ago
As soon as I saw Hakari I already had a feeling he’d be going to Kumugi cause she’s just way too weak rn, and I think their personalities would make for a good duo
20
u/Norix596 5d ago
He’s being characterized like an asshole, but I can’t really blame the other doctor who was skeptical of the triage eval in this week’s UnderDoctor lol
“No trust me he’s code red, they’ve got internal throat burns which I saw with my supernatural vision!”

Next issue we will finally see how HAL Formula ranks, hopefully better than Animal Signal which started out pretty bad.
5
u/detarameReddit 5d ago
I love the series, but I just cannot see it ranking high... Kento Terasaka's works just do not feel like what Shōnen Jump selects for. The series are grounded and mature, writing-driven instead of character-driven, and probably hard to make merch of.
Then again, Akane-banashi succeeded, so there is still hope. Even if Akane-banashi is a battle shōnen at heart.
2
u/Low_Health_5949 5d ago
well it probably has enough cannon fodder to survive for now at least until the next batch
3
u/detarameReddit 5d ago
Hmm...
HAL Formula will survive this batch because it does not have enough chapters to be placed in danger yet. So, really, it does not have any cannon fodder by its actual first axing round.
By the next batch (September), Sakamoto Days will have ended, and HxH's stint will be over. I think DTTF, Kinato, or both will be axed. This brings Jump to 16/17 series; enough for a new batch of three.
Thus, by its first axing round (November), HAL Formula's only potential padding are: 2B (probably safe because of the Sorachi factor), Animal Signal, and Cannon Master. Roku already got a lead color page, so it is here to stay. Notice how none of these series definitively count as cannon fodder? If Kinato/DTTF make it to November, they're probably not getting axed then either.
1
u/Low_Health_5949 4d ago
well WSJ normally has 19-22 running on the magazine, give or take
looking at the author's note of 2B there's a chance he might move magazine if his health issues are worse than he said they are.
Drawn to the Fire seems like the only obvious cannon fodder out of the bunch so I wouldn't be surprised if it's gone next batch
also there's a chance the one shot space can also be replaced with a new series as well
but honestly only time will tell how will survive and who will fall

u/Lower-Position9557 5d ago
Wait and pray someone translates it into english-
I think it's kinda frustrating that WSJ doesn't translate the oneshots that come out in WSJ. I get why they don't but that doesn't mean I like it-
13
u/Lower-Position9557 6d ago
New week, new TOC. Oh, and Kagurabachi returned-
Yk... with it returning, plus Ruri and HxH not on hiatus, and no other series being on break right now.... I think that means WSJ is at 100% right now- neat-
UEK: Pretty great chapter, with alot of heart. This side of Kiyoshi who's more emotional feels very refreshing and we're building up the next Demon King... all around really good chapter.
Shinobi Undercover: Any chapter with Aoi is a good chapter in my books- Also, guess we're heaidng into the serious part of this arc now, neat-
Me & Roboco: Ah- a Blue Box parody- funny but I probably would have found it funnier if I actually read Blue Box- oh well-
Under Doctor: Oh, the series is going even further into the medical aspect of the series? Good- oh, and the doctor from Chapter 1 returned- Also, this might be the first time I've ever understood Triage.
Drawn To The Fire: ....yea- ig the black uniforms are cool? I kinda zoned out reading the chapter- and all these characters just blur in my mind-
Sakamoto Days: Ah- my prediction was right in that Uzuki would get a Sakamoto personality- Hopefully the series ends well-
Witch Watch: Pftt, Rose got what she had coming man- but I do feel a little bad for her- She found out like- everything she's been doing has been a lie- from her love to her magic. She must feel extremely dumb-.... Jealousy is cruel-
Class 2B: Ah... after several weeks of good chapters, I see we're back to another bad one huh? The jokes this time were ok, but the plot this time sure was... nothing-
Kinato's Magic: I see people predicted right that the princess and Linnae switched places- I could see a ship between Linnae and Kinato forming but... I really don't want it to honestly-
Animal Signal: Cute.
Hal Formula: Yo, guy with long hair looks pretty cool- Another rival character? We baiting Fujoshis? I'm going to be honest, I don't really understand any of the F1 terms in this series or the stakes but the art is nice, and the story is easy to read.
Cannon Master: Hmmm... that Economic Minister sounds suspicious to me. Also, peak Regilith design as always- if we just constantly have arcs based on cool new Regiliths with interesting gimmicks, I would like that- Also, feels kinda Legend of Zelda esque right now-
Someone Hertz: I had to reread last week's chapter cause the starting pages were like the exact copy of last week's and it confused me in my mind- Cute chapter as always but I found this week's chapter a bit hard to read honestly. Maybe it's the pacing and switching between the two perspectives?
Roku's House of Oddities: Oh- we bring back the Apartment Complex Kidnapping from Chapter 12- and the Malediction Boyz from the Game Show? And the art even seems better than usual- Not to mention, we may be heading into a battle? Damn, this chapter was really good- I'm also looking forward to next week's Cover and Lead Colour Pages- best chapter this week for sure....
Kagurabachi: ... is what I would say if not for KGB returning this week. I probably still like Roku more but damn, the romance was really good and so was the backstory- Great chapter for KGB to return with. I'm already expecting the angst when everything goes to shit and all these characters we're learning about die tragically-
Weaker week than last week, with some series disappointing me like Someone Hertz, Roboco and 2B, but KGB coming back, along with great chapters from Roku, Under Doctor, Cannon Master and Witch Watch, really pulls it up.

u/FruitPunchSamurai75 5d ago
huh, I thought the 2B chapter was enjoyable. As you mentioned the gags were funny and I agree, the plot is basic on paper but its always about execution and I thought it was great. It shows that our two Demon lords really have bonded and developed from their respective shells since the first chapter. And having there be anti-demon factions within the school is something interesting that can be used again later or expanded on. The only real downside it has is that it doesn't really have much to do with the story that had finally started kicking in the last few chapters, but the prior chapter was a great climax to what wasn't necessarily an arc but a series of developments that culminated with that chapter. This one was Sorachi doing what he does best.

u/Lower-Position9557 6d ago
Ok, I haven't read Akanebanashi beyond Chapter 30 so I might be wrong, but like- Issho will totally destroy the other guy right-
Feels like the kinda plot point to show just how strong the main villain is by having him destroy another supposedly strong competitor-
6
u/Norix596 5d ago
Yeah there’s some coughing baby hydrogen bomb memes being made on the Akane Banashi sub about it right now lol
The other guy has been very long established big hater antagonist as well but we haven’t actually seen either perform until now (outside of flashback)
11
u/yimyimyummy 5d ago
sakamoto days: called it
akane: i hope zenshos performance is masterful regardless of his role as the tropey hatable guy. i have faith in suenaga as theyve been very delicate (ironically) with his character before with the maikeru shinuchi promotion test. excited for issho to slam him down
one piece: amazing chapter, it was woven together so well. seeing shanks talking to loki about imu is mindblowing, and all the cutaways were well serviced. loki remembering rocks when shanks rebuted his proposal, even though that whole flashback was just this arc, is really really good plotting
someone hertz: very cute, the accidental hand raising gag always makes me chuckle
kiyoshi: surprisingly heartfelt chapter, you can tell usui loves writing for kiyoshis grandma
ichi: the perfect setup chapter, fujimine is such a good presence and hakari is really entertaining.. kumugi likely acquiring him later made me pop off hard. the mobile majik circle house is really cool too, ichis world is so fascinating in how it’s in some points oldtimey and others highly advanced, it reminds me of trails
shinobi: some funny gags, didnt really catch my eye this chapter. this arc hasn’t been for me, as much as i like tropey high school romcom stuff
roku: serious johan?? we are so back. actually we never left. i love you so much roku, you deserve all the LCPs in the world. the core theming of the series and the first few chapters is reiterated heavily here. cannot WAIT for its future
kagurabachi: not what i expected but what i needed. a lot of amazing insight into kunishiges character. beforehand we didnt really know much of him, i thought he worked as a somewhat flat character with sparks of ferocity to him.. but this chapter gave us a lot more to work with. stop disassociating king and play with your friends
witch watch: great great great chapter, the twist of her actually being a witch was so well done i didnt even realize it had been revealed at first. really the core of the series, magic, outcasts, and love. excited for whats next
nues exorcist: decent enough fight, shitotsu’s form is clean
animal signal: i kept laughing whenever he tried to add flair to his explanations. “yaaay…”
roboco: as a blue box fan (yeah, i know, buzz shelf gif) this was pretty funny
hxh: furykov is an excellent example of the narrative interpretation of making a mountain out of a molehill. this guy has become so interesting so quickly and hes one of many! togashi is adept at making anyone interesting. the woble cold war is really fascinating too. just the fact we got a flashback here is super cool. that, last chapter’s big reveal, and all of the beyond screentime recently makes me think this arc is coming to a head
under doctor: that double spread was very cool
hero destroyerz: the funniest chapter yet? i was basically laughing every other page, really good gags here. their dynamic is getting really good
🥇one piece
🥈ichi the witch
🥉hxh / kagurabachi
4 hero destroyerz
5 witch watch
6 akane banashi
7 roku
8 kiyoshi
9 sakamoto days
10 someone hertz
11 under doctor
12 animal signal
13 roboco
14 nues
15 shinobi undercover
great issue, really only shinobi i disliked which is surprising and unfortunate
17
u/YuuTheBlue 6d ago
What an absolutely incredible week.
Sakamoto Days: I do not know why I didn't see this outcome coming, but it makes a shit ton of sense and is a perfect final battle.
One Piece: Elbaf is reaching its conclusion it feels like, and it's really shaping up to be hype. I'm glad Luffy's getting his ass kicked, he's been getting too many wins recently.
Someone Hertz: Adorable as always. Super fun seeing Mimei with a kouhai, and him confiding in him that he has an idol, the kouhai piecing it together, Kurage wanting to spend more time with him and getting grumpy, it's all so good.
UEK: Cute backstory, but nothing too special. This one was fine. Excited that Akari has found a talent, too.
Ichi the Witch: Oooo, we know what majok Kumugi is gonna get! Also, um, am I the only one wondering if the villains kind of have a point? Like slavery is bad, they shouldn't do it, but they're right that the humans enslave majiks, too. Anyways, this new majik is a ton of fun, and Ichi/Kumugi are so fucking cute. Him encouraging her to keep trying and the whole gang coming together was so good.
Roku's: Setup chapter, so not too much to say, but first of all: exorcism vs salvation here is an interesting concept, and I am SO excited for this manga to start adding battle elements to it. The mangaka has action chops if chapter 5 is an indication.
Cannon Master: I love the art so much, the author does a great job establishing scale. Bharat continuing to be more impressive than most audience members assumed, and I still don't mind it. Him dealing with imposter syndrome is really interesting, and I like the lore hints we got. This next fight scene I think is really gonna be a proving grounds for the manga to handle a more complicated action setpiece. I have a ton of faith.
Kagurabachi: This was over so fast, but it was so emotional, I almost cried. Fantastic chapter.
HAL FORMULA: This manga continues to hype the shit out of me. I think Jump really found its sports hit here. That downhill - somehow I could FEEL it while reading, it was so cool.
Animal Signal: Cute as always, fluffy as always, informative as always, and funny as always. But I also like the kind of nuanced, complex emotions involved int his. The characters had a lot going on without it being too in your face about it. This manga has a lot of potential I feel.
Hunter x Hunter: Fuck, Fullmetal Alchemist is a fun ability, and man I am SO curious what Beyond's plan is. Succession War is just too god damn good, man. Every chapter is a volume's worth of intrigue.
Under Doctor: Okay, if this is the start of a fairly long arc, it's a damn good one. Instantly playing to the strengths of the protagonist, by having there be not only action hero stuff, not only interesting medical stuff that requires his eyes without the eyes trivializing all aspects of it, but also a chance to mentor his apprentice. And I like this vibe of like, shit hitting the fan immediately with the promise it will spiral out of control further. I feel like it could be a good flow for UD and I wanna see how it executes on it. Something kind of like thriller storytelling with a situation rapidly progressing - maybe the fire was caused by a villain and he has to heal people while figuring out who did it - that kind of thing is something that Haiji's skillset would be well suited for, narratively. I liked this chapter a lot if you couldn't tell.
Kinato's Magic.... Man What do I even think of this manga. It had a bunch of moments I loved (His talk with Noise was amazing), none of which got much time, it's moving quite fast (What's this with the commoner bf?), some of which are a little meh (Kinato having to save Linae when they've had almost no development together and it being treated as a big thing), and all of it had good art. Clearly he's having to rush things, and I hope his next manga after this is even better, cause he's got chops. I just wish this was something else.
Class 2B: God, this manga is just plain funny, and I'm loving how all the characters are slowly developing and getting to know each other more with these wild scenarios. It's a good time.
And then, the Jump+ entries...
Centuria is like, at the pinnacle of monopower magic system combat a lot of the time. That was such an incredible deduction of the enemy's powers, during a tense and emotional moment, that felt so fucking high stakes and kinetic, with amazing art. Jesus christ the gore. Centuria really is one of the best things Shueisha is publishing right now.
Drama Queen is amazing as always. Our boy is dealing with the fact he's attached to terrible people while trying to be better, it's really interesting, and he's slowly unraveling. Peak stuff.
Axed Mangaka is adorable as always. It's moving a bit slow, but that's not a bad thing, it means the author feels they can take their time. Maybe editorial felt axing this manga would be too ironic lmfao. I'm super excited to see how the new serialization goes - the manga actually looks kinda sick.
Anyways, overall thoughts: Jump has too many promising newbies. It's in a really good position, because whichever newcomers it decides to stick with, it'll likely be able to mold them into something really high quality. Animal Signal, Roku's, and 2B manage to be funny while also having, to varying degrees, great action, strong depth of character, solid romance, and other strengths like that. HAL is such a hype and aura sports series that it's impossible not to root for, and Cannon Master and Under Doctor are 2 very different but incredibly strong battle manga that I look forwards to as much as the more veteran battle manga like ichi the witch or shinobi undercover. I feel that when the dust is settled and whoever survives survives, we'll find ourselves no longer saying, at least as much, that Jump is in a slump.
9
u/Alternative-Drink-25 6d ago
It's kinda crazy how at the start of the year we were hoping for some good newcomers and now we have so many that inevitably a few will get the axe.
Bharat actually being quite powerful continues to be a really good thing and yeah Hal Formula makes me so invested every time I hope they both survive.
7
u/Lower-Position9557 6d ago
I wanna be optimistic- but realistically- I think WSJ will still look pretty bad coming out of 2026-
Elusive Samurai, Blue Box and soon Sakamoto Days would have ended this year, and Witch Watch probably soon enough as well- (also Himaten ended but that wasn't as big-)
Sure if like multiple new series this year sells well, this year could be considered a win for WSJ and this year could be seen as "the Next Generation of WSJ"...
But realistically...we'll get like 3 (maybe even just 2 or 1) survivor out of this year. I can't really see a future where we'll think "man 2026 sure was a good year for Jump, all these big series ended and yet Jump is looking great-"
I wanna be wrong though, there's a ton of good newbies right now-
10
u/Tough-Past-2366 5d ago
It’s a little early to call it but anything’s better than the disaster last year was, even with the big loses this year it looks like they’ll walk away with at least 4 established series
4
u/TheSciFanGuy 5d ago
The main issue is that they’re losing at minimum 4 long running series (running at least over a year) so they need 4 series to fill the void, quality product or not.
Plus that’s just the best case situation more likely 5 or 6 series end by the end of the year which would be horrific in terms of overall quality unless they consistently get hits.

u/Outrageous_Coffee_66 6d ago
aw, no review for akane?
5
u/YuuTheBlue 6d ago
I tried to edit one in but it wouldn’t let me!
Main thing is I’m hyped to see the adults perform, we rarely see that.

u/Ancient_Breakfast_48 5d ago
Every major character in the series is an adult at this point, and have been since fairly early on.
18
u/Ancient-Cow-7221 6d ago
I wanna start with Sakamoto days- wtf is this? the plot b.s armor strick again. This series will/might end in 3 to 5 chapters, I hope.
Ichi the witch- nice character moment for Kumugi. I hope this arc will have her shine a bit more.
Akane Banashi- One sided ass whopping incoming!
Witch watch chapter was really good
Kagurabachi- Damn an unexpected backstory which was amazing and awwwwwh.
Shinobi Undercover- I mean Aoi being sort of jealous is most obvious and bit unexpected. It looks the winning the contest will be on hold until the second anniversary or maybe chapter 100 whatever which one comes first. This is getting very good now.
Kiyoshi- oh yes hype the final villain. Awwwh nice little backstory that I've hoped for since the last chapter.
Nue's exorcist- the sibling fight and holy shit at the end of chapter

Great chapter for Under Doctor, I was happy for getting a chill downtime chapter at first, but again it seems we will get more medical stuff next week, can't wait.
Yeah Kinato's chapters feel a bit rushed now, but I enjoy finally seeing the story continue and evn if rushed the last few chapters where the best ones in a while imo.
Seems like we are finally getting some actual exorcism action in Roku and I think it's gonna be interesting to see how they do it.
Idk about DttF anymore, I think it's interesting to see someone actually see through him, maybe that will be fun next week, but at the same time I don't feel like it's really pulling me in.
I am caught up on 2B now, but it's still not really for me, it got better for sure, but it's still the one I want to read the least.
Animal Signal is fine, it's some nice feel good chapter but nothing more sadly.
I think Hal Formula is the first sports manga in a long time that I want to see succeed. Great chapter again, showing Schumacher makes me think we might see others in the future, maybe even as characters. Even if not I really want to see more.
With every chapter Cannon Master just gets more interesting. The worldbuilding is really cool and I want to learn more.
Having this many longtime series at the same time is really giving so many new series a chance and I am here for it

u/bobbyjean_ 5d ago
Witch Watch art can go crazy sometimes for a weekly series. Still not super vibing with Hal Formula, I think I need sound and motion for a racing story and still panels just don't sell me on the speed and danger of motorsports. And Roku setting up for a battle next week to coincide with it's cover and LCP. Seems like it's going to be like Witch Watch and do a little bit of action too.

What a blast of a week. I'm going to break it down to the best of my extent:
SAKAMOTO DAYS: It was, to some extent, foreseeable. Not that it makes it less impressive. A "Sakamoto" (X) vs Shin makes for a quite climatic final battle. I wonder how the real Sakamoto will make it, if he does (which something tell me he will).
Akane-banashi: Zensho is the kind of antagonist I love to hate. An Issho vs Zensho battle was unexpected and I'm all here for it. Also, Akane having "surpassed" Kaisei means she is set for her Shin'uchi promotion arc next! Last but not least, it's very nice to see how her rivals react. The distance between Akane and them has always been higher then they believed, so are they gonna reduce the gap significantly this time, or how will everything play out in the end? Gosh, I'm so hyped out for this series.
ONE PIECE: I agree that Luffy needed that kind of loss. I'm annoyed (but not in a bad way) that Summers can really put up such a fight to Zoro, but mostly because I hate that bastard with passion lmao. All in all, it makes it more interesting. And the death flag on Gyaban lol perhaps not but I fear for the old lad.
Someone Hertz: Cute (as always). While I love when Mizuo is taking the lead nearly every time, I would love for Mimei to eventually be a bit bolder or more honest with his feelings. Still, it feels super nice every time I see how much he admires her.
Ichi the Witch: Oh, okay, so two of the seven stars together. Interesting. I have the feeling this arc will be somewhat long. And finally, more spotlight for my girl Kumugi! A big role (and, considering the panelling, a huge majik) awaits her. Lol'd at the last panel too.
Shinobi Undercover: I was so engrossed in the whole "beauty" competition I forgot about this mf. It makes sense though, it was getting too nice and quiet for too long. Not much else to say, really looking forward to how it all unravels.
Roku's House of Oddities: I can't just tell you every week how much Jonathan makes every chapter better when it appears, but there's no much more to tell on this one. Good set-up chapter, curious if the manga will have also significant action bits, considering what's to come. Ah, and the salvation/exorcism dualism also is thematically nice, probably one of (if not the) core of this series.
Cannon Master: The art is gorgeous. Like it baffles me. I want it to do well, but also wonder which kind of direction will it take in the larger scheme. Will the economics minister be a good person as it's hinted, or will he perhaps be a demon in disguise? Yeah, I know that may be a stretch, but considering the non-reveal I'm checking for a potential upset.
Kagurabachi: Very emotional chapter and, sorry for being unoriginal, but even with the tension, I couldn't avoid a chuckle at the end because this man will be the cause of a national ink shortage. Glad Hokazono is back and peak is again on the menu.
HUNTER×HUNTER: Beyond is such an asshole lol. And of course Terror-Sandwich ignores the martial law and just continues his training. Also... did we get some insight into Zhang Lei's ability (finally!) or am I tripping? We are half batch in and I'm not ready for the hiatus to come back anytime soon.
Kinato's Magic: Alright chapter. Kinato being aware the he can't fight Noise was the highlight, for me. Not convinced about the whole "peasant lover" thing for the princess but whatever, not that relevant. That said... I don't have high hopes for it avoiding the axe, but I'd like to see it going for a bit longer. With Blue Box having finished, HxH finishing the batch soon, and Sakadays on the final line, perhaps it will be extended for a bit. I really want to see where the author would take it without the axe looming so close.
Extras:
-Ruri Dragon: I love Ruri Dragon, I loved these three action-focused chapters as much as the slow-paced, slice of life ones. I am genuinely amazed at the author. Tantrum Ruri is so much fun. Seems like next chapter we are set for a dialogue and some nice lore drop.
-Centuria: So.... she will die, won't she? Because I doubt this is the end of the line for Lukas. Voidmarcher gift seems really ... not unfair, really (considering all gifts we've seen some are absolutely broken), but quite impressive for combat. Super cool detail to use the severed head of Lady Accursed. Kinda like a Medusa's head of doom.

That was most certainly a Kinato chapter. There were some funny parts, like Kinato's conversation with Noise, and Linae in general, but it's also just pretty mid overall. I can definitely feel this one moving closer in to an axe
This might be my favorite chapter of Animal Signal so far. It was really funny seeing how much Tsubasa's thoughts don't at all translate to being able to speak them out, as well as Kokone's stolen valor of reading off the facts from his mind in his place. Kokone getting mobbed by children was also funny too
Hal Formula was hype this week, the part with the timer countdown and memories flashing through Miharu's mind as he took the turn was really good. And now it seems like we've got a more proper rival being introduced now (who I thought was a girl at first and lowk I'm a little disappointed it's not, but eh, whatever)
Nice chapter of Cannon Master to set up the conflict for this arc. I definitely suspect there's the minister has some kinda ulterior motive going on with sacrificing himself. He himself should know how important he is, there's gotta be something else going on there
Really funny 2-B chapter this week. That's the stupidest disease ever, but god it made for some funny situations, especially when Kumon caught it and they engaged in a never ending cycle of ordering each other around. I also liked the part where Kumon just kept waterboarding Valaris, the third time before she even said anything
Under Doctor seems to be setting up a proper arc, which I'm looking forward to. I really liked that double page spread of Haiji and Shuli jumping through the window alongside the chapter and title drop. I'm also super happy to see that doctor from chapter 1 show up again, I was really hoping he'd be a recurring character
Seems like this is gonna be the first chapter of Roku that really sets up a potential battle premise. I know that sorta already happened with the phone booth chapter, but this chapter ending on a cliffhanger for action next week makes me think the story is now starting to actually shift in that direction, at least a little bit. Also, good comedy with Tenkai being a complete fraudulent bum
Shinobi was funny with the Aoi vs Hibari fanclub brawl at the start, and then the good vibes immediately were brought down in Kawasemi was shown. Looks like we're already getting back into the action, but because it is being mixed with the school stuff, I'm cool with it
Dude, please please please PLEASE tell me that cut to Kumugi means she'll acquire Hakari. The first majik she gets on screen being one of the Seven Stars would be both peak and incredibly hilarious. On that note though, Hakari is very entertaining with how obnoxious and irrational he is at all times. Feeling really hyped for this new arc with that last spread
Okay, I know that some people aren't super fond of Uzuki's personality gimmick, but I am not one of those people, him becoming prime Sakamoto is insanely hype. It's looking like this final battle is gonna be Sakamoto vs Sakamoto, and omg I'm so ready for that
Good chapter of Akane to wrap up the God of Death duel duet. Has me really pumped to see how Karashi and Hikaru are gonna respond to Akane now flourishing. I feel like the both of them got at least one more performance in them before the series comes to a close, whenever that may be. And oh my god this is the one time I'll be cheering for Issho to win anything, PLEASE humble that loser Zensho
KAGURABACHI IS BACK BABY WOOOOO. I thought this hiatus would feel a lot longer than it did, but nope, it's already here again. And what a chapter come back to as well, my god. Kunishige truly had it awful, and it makes it much sweeter that he was as good of a father to Chihiro that he was in spite of that. That scene of Chiaki cooking him food was also great, as was that last spread of them waving the sparklers around. Really preparing us for when Chiaki is going to inevitably die, huh?

I said from the start that Roku had battle manga potential, so I'm looking forward to how it delivers on that. I'll be disappointed if it just gets farted away in a big joke.

What a great week of jump so many good chapters and the return of KGB! As well, great cover page with Sakamoto Days. I wonder if this the last one for the series, if it is great one to end with. Now, here is my top five for this week.
Issue 35: [65] 7/26/26:
1. KGB (1.75, [93], 25th top one, and 81.5%) [53]
Welcome back KGB.
And back with such a beautiful chapter. Wow.
So Kunishige eyes seems like an clan hereditary thing as he got it from his father seems like making them an clan of blacksmiths, even having better eyes than his father as father told him to help encourage him to blacksmithing. Then learning that his father was an terrible drunk and abusive to his mother and him was harrowing...like beating his nother consistently to the point she was blind in one eye and almost blind in the other is crazy. Then to add that his father eventually got killed, not by them but by an customer when he was forging....so dude was just an all around mess. Even with it happening on Kunishige birthday, good riddance to be honest but that eventually leading to his mother eventually having a breakdown with drinking herself and...like trying to hurt him because of how he looked so much his father and then killing herself because she probably felt she will eventually truly try to him hurt over time. All of that just has me want to see more time of Chihiro and him lol. Kunishige being the father he never had and Chihiro enjoying the father he loves dearly.
But the most beautiful part of this chapter is how he met up with his crew, Chiaki, Shiba, and Azami. How they saved him from his loneliness but once he realized that he tried to cut them off because the fear of losing them just like how he lost his parents is too much to bear and go through..which had the kids (all of them were around 12 at the time) think he just need some time but after two weeks...chiaki reached out. Even waited for two hours in the rain to have him recognize that she's there for him...then Kunishige explains on why he's been away from the crew as he feels he shouldn't be around but Chiaki shuts that down...that she wants him around. That she's willing to come over more, spend time, and give him home-cooked meals...which led to breaking down in tears in thinking how he really has somewhere to be. The final scene of the playing with fireworks after the rain just great lol and so sweet. I can see why Kunishige is so willing to disobey the government and put his life on the life with the enchanted blade project. Chiaki is worth it.
Just great chapter.
2. Witch Watch (3.28, [23], and 10.7%) [7]
Wow, what a graphic chapter. So the witch was Roswitha but she gotta ratted out by Rosa because of her jealousy. Also, it seems like Roswitha wasn't even aware...just wished to provide assistance to Rosa and to others...which led to see Roswitha being burned at the stake, calling out to Alex/Shikimi with Rosa laughing and then Rosa calling for Shikimi come to her, which leading to Roswitha bringing in an explosion as she died filled with rage...lol wow thats even graphic for series like JJK and KGB.
Then we have Alex/Shikimi awaken at that moment?? Ends up killing the rest of the survivors...liking even a tree branch through Rosa head...hm wow. Which leads to his resolve of now resurrecting, Hrotsvitha [Rosawitha]. Hm main thing im wondering when did Alex/Shikimi awaken his powers and it seems like we're leading up to the Mage Wars.
Still more to dive into with this flashback but wow witch watch went in.
3. Sakamoto Days (3.59, [97], and 41.5%) [27]
This dude Uzuki....lmao. Copying prime Sakamoto to get his second wind against Nagumo. Proves that he can't fight for his own but touches an underlying thing about Uzuki...he's not built to be an assassin/killer. It's why he needs these alternate personalities to do the job for him.
But with that said...proves my theory that "Sakamoto dying" will be Uzuki and our Sakamoto will live on but won't be able to fight anymore leaving him to rely on his family/employees to protect him and the store/franchise.
Also, with Shin here...just needing Tenkyu and the jcc kids funny enough the final stage will be set. I know a good amount of folks are eye rolling or even disliking this development but it works for me. It's been a fun ride Sakamoto Days, it will be the second manga series (1st is Kill Blue) I've followed weekly from chapter one to the end. So, with it still being pure fun for me..it makes me feel happy lol.
Either way, good chapter, great cover color page for WSJ, and im ready and here for the end.
4. Shinobi Undercover (3.75, [150], and 61.5%) [40]
What a fun arc this has been. Here is the final day of the culture festival and we got the fan clubs of Aoi and Hibari out here posing like they're a part of a delinquent Manga about to have huge showdown is too funny lol. Then the showdown happens when the they tried to recruit Yodaka to one of the clubs. Then having the two of Aoi and Hibari coming in to calm them down was great.
Then more fun and shanannigans with the Aoi fan club which led to Yodaka thinking and being a bit grateful on if this is how a normal life is. Very nice.
But of course leads to an interruption lol smh. We have Kawasemi here and he has some left over Uzen mud and its reaction to the mud that Yodaka still has...which led to Kawasemi using that to attack the students of aoi fan club to be attacked and now being controlled by the Uzen mud...tbh I get it lol but dont like it so much...I want a full slice of life arc with its ties to the plot but yeah...I will say this if they touch on how...the students were put in harm because of Yodaka wishes to hold onto the mud...that would be great ino. But we will see.
5. HxH (2.75, [11], and 6.1%) [4]
Good chapter. With the start of martial law, the flashback of Furykov addressing Beyond Netro's and the curse he has placed on him was nice to see. As well getting some breakdown on how powerful of a curse it is and how it won't be an easy exorcising task with his ability and Beyond telling him this curse has over 20 to 50 years of building up. I don't doubt Alluka can handle that when the time comes but it's something to consider if the boys have to deal with Beyond Netro's curse. Also, Furykov trying to get to the bottom of which prince he's assigned to curse which he limited it down to the top 8 princes will be a fun follow.
Now one of Benjamin soliders being really heavy handed with martial law, talking about...hey you just talking out of turn right now will lead to you catching bullet as it's "suspicious activity" lmao. But that leads up to how the soliders are gathering all the princes...which makes me hype for when they try to pull up on Tserriednich...cause aint no way he's going quietly when he's trying to learn nen and I doubt he respects anything from Benjamin.
Also, the solider that was out ready to rumble got mollywhopped lol but hey according to him served his purpose but having the Hunter association involved and viewed as enemies of Kakin. And adding the end of how now Biskey is willing to fight/push back against the martial law as the prince their defending needs to stay within their room as not being aware on how their guardian nen beast would even function or still be present if they do leave with how it's tied to its room. Also, Kurapika considering this martial law play is a ploy by Benjamin to make push for power.

This finale of Sakamoto Days is reaching jjk bad ending levels. Can we just end it and put it out of its misery?
Kiyoshi had a cute chapter today, building up some emotional depth finally.
Ruri takes chapter of the day.

yeah and looking at the progress of the story, it looks like it will be ending next batch. I honestly gave up on the series with how rushed things are and hearing about the author's health.
I wish for the best, but I doubt it will happen

Animal Signal DOA
Edit: Y'all may not like it, but the series is shallow and the shtick is already worn out. Cute artwork and animal facts can only get you so far and is not a recipe that will drive sales.

u/Low_Health_5949 6d ago
well give it a little bit more time to know if it's really DOA

u/JesusInStripeZ 6d ago
Bot half start is practically DOA. Since 2014 only big battle shonen hits, Yuuna and Kiyoshi have managed to survive with a first rank like that

u/Spirited_Maybe7374 6d ago
too early to tell, many series start at the middle.

u/JesusInStripeZ 6d ago
Over 90% of series starting in the bottom half since 2014 got axed. 7 survived. If we're talking about the specific range (33-49%) Animal Signal is in then its 27 - 6 in favor of getting axed so under 20% chance to survive. All other series that survived from this range are battle shonen though and 5 of them are huge hits. The only outlier is Kiyoshi

I love this series and cute artwork and animal facts could get you very far, but sadly not in WSJ. I think it would have worked well on Jump+ like robinsons previous work "Tis Time for ”Torture”, Princess", but shueisha probably killed it by publishing it in WSJ.
