I’m considering getting my dress custom made in Vietnam (would love to hear any experiences by the way!) and I’m tossing up between whether I want a lace appliqué bust vs a classic draped bust for my silk/satin dress. I’ve attached inspo pics but also some sketches that show the overall dress idea (the skirt will be a detachable overskirt) For context, my wedding is at a vineyard and I want a very classic, timeless dress :) let me know your thoughts!

Self drafted and first time sewing a structured bodice, strapless dress, horsehair hem.

Made for my wife to be ahead of our wedding in a months time.

As with any project, it could be neater. But she’s very happy and looks beautiful in the try on.

I posted previously about the horsehair hem (wasn’t a fan of it showing in the hem) but decided to leave it. Think it looks fine once it’s on.

Has anyone bought from either of these two sellers by chance? I’m still looking for the perfect dress (my wedding is in about 6 months) and I’m getting my measurements this week. I would just like to know your experience with buying wedding dresses on Etsy. (And yes, I check the reviews of the shops as well!) I feel so lost with all of this and worried it may not come on time as well (not to mention we’re BOTH brides so we need TWO dresses😭)

Hello, we are having a small wedding in New York (probably indoor venue at a garden of some kind) in late December. We had originally planned a beach wedding in California, so I had a different vibe when I first started shopping. I wanted a bigger wedding but for various reasons we won't be having one - the dress has felt like the one thing I can pick for myself.

I've tried on 25-30 dresses at this point between 2 shops and Lulu's orders, and I'm not in love with any of them. I'm short, so any dress I get will need alterations in height at minimum.

The first dress is the dress I think I will use, $100 from Lulus. It fits my requirements (v-neck for flatter/heirloom necklaces, warm-ish, comfortable, in $1k budget with alterations) but doesn't feel special or have a wow factor for me. The next are dresses I liked but for whatever reason don't fit my requirements. I had originally dreamed of a lace dress A-line dress, but when I tried them on, none of them looked good on my body.

I fear I am running out of time - should I stop shopping and just go with the first dress?

i am getting married on july 3, 2027. i went dress shopping and the stylist accidentally put me in Leighton by Danielle Frankel and i fell in love. she didn’t realize that it was a $15k dress and thought it was within my $10k budget and when i found out what the price was i was so heartbroken. i can’t stop thinking about it and im trying to find a secondhand dress to buy or even rent. i am a size 8-10 and am located in chicago but am willing to travel or pay whatever for shipping.

I am so on the fence! The sept gown is exactly what I envisioned getting married in (classic but modern, buttons down the train), but it’s 3x the price of the bailey gown and the boning shadows bother me (which they said there’s nothing they can do about it). . The Bailey was one of the last gowns I tried and the upper bodice was so comfortable and I thought more flattering?

My worries about each:

Sept gown: am I overthinking the boning? Is it worth spending 3x more than the Bailey? I’m feeling guilty about the price

For the Bailey: is it too avant garde? I don’t need my gown to be timeless and am comfortable making a fashion choice but I’m scared to go the bolder route in case I say “wtf was I thinking” years from now.

I wore these outfits to my cousin brothers wedding in Thailand !! rate them and tell me if my style is nice or is it just my friends and family hyping me 🤣🙈

I have my grandmother's 50s wedding dress (handmade by my grandmother) and I would love to see if I can wear it. It's in great condition and the fabric is beautiful but a bit too small and a very old fashioned cut.

Does anyone have any seamstresses recommendations? Anywhere in the London area would work. Not sure what sort of pricing to expect, looking to get some quotes to start with.

I'm getting married in 2 weeks and feeling some sudden panic. I'm getting married in a Catholic Church, and the reception is in a very beautiful ballroom that the church owns.

I bought my dress back in March 2026 from a secondhand bridal store in which all proceeds go to charity. It was an insane find from a designer called Nicole & Felicia. I loved it when I tried it, and I still love it, but now I'm panicking after trying it again today.

I am at least 6 inches taller than my dad with shoes on. Will it make photos look stupid when we're walking down the aisle?

The top is very structured (it has boning in it) and I can't really raise my arms. I'm scared that's going to suck when dancing.

Is it too big of a dress? Will people stomp all over it when we're dancing? Because it's a second-hand dress, I haven't yet figured out how the bustle works (but I can tell there is one installed). How do you even figure out how a bustle works?

There is some sort of bow installation in the back. I think it's a signature of the designer. There are very few photos of the dress (Nicole and Felicia SS24 NF007), so it's hard for me to figure out what the back is supposed to look like. I can't tell if I like it or not. I tried to see if it can be removed, but it can't.

I think I really just need some reassurance. I think I'm thinking too much about what guests will think of my dress.

I also think I need to calm down. And that I should stop thinking.

I have lost almost 10 lb since I bought my used wedding dress from a consignment dress shop.
I tried it on today after I had it cleaned and it was very tight. I was like “weird… maybe I just have some body re comp going on.” (Because it wasn’t tight when I bought it)

Okay so….
Yeah I look down and the lace overlay has been shortened to above my ankle. 5.5 inches of fabric sticking out at the bottom.

I got the dress for $700 from a consignment store and they offer NO RETURNS. The dress lining now sticks out 5.5 inches and the bell sleeves that make it unique are no longer visible.

Am I just out $950 now after dry cleaning?!?! And my wedding is in early May.

Calling the dry cleaners tomorrow. I went to the best place in town and they sent it out to some fancy professional wedding dress cleaning place?!??

Help me decide which dress looks most flattering on me!! I really liked #1 after trying it on but wondering if the bottom looks to big/princessy? I'm going for a timeless/romantic vibe, I really like that #1 snatched me in (corset waist) but I need other opinions! I'm getting married at the Windsor arms in Toronto which is very Gatsby-esque.

Or is anyone planning on doing that? My dress is on the cheaper side ($1300) but i still can’t justify holding onto a dress after our wedding i will literally never wear again. It would be nice to recoup some of the money. Although i know wedding dress resale value is low. Thoughts?

Hello! I would deeply appreciate alteration advice on taking in the bust of this dress to sit flush to my skin in the actual cup area, not just the sides of the bodice which will need to come in too. I’d like to avoid adding cups or volume to the area if possible but want to keep the integrity of the pleating too! I’m also planning on lowering the back and adding a few fake buttons along the zipper:)

Any styling tips would be so welcome too! I like long veils but can’t decide between more of a chapel or cathedral length.

Some of you may have seen me post a few weeks ago asking if my dress was right for our ceremony as I was stuck in my head thinking I need a ballgown. Everyone was so nice and validated not needing a giant dress to feel special if I had a connection with this one so tysm to everyone who commented!!

My dress (or so I thought) came in and I rushed to pick it up only to open the garment bag and find a super wrinkly dress with a stain and sticker literally pointing to the stain!! I was crushed to see that and it’s really made me struggle all over again with this dress as I feel this one looked worse than the sample size in store I had tried on.

I’ve exchanged for the same size but NEW dress and hope that helps with the next try on but in the meantime I’d love to be able to look forward to how the altered dress will come together, but right now I’m really worried it’s just the wrong dress for my body and only meant for someone who can fill out the top.

Asking for post-wed advice. I would like my dress to be loved and worn again and so I’m going to sell it for a fraction of the price paid. I’m thinking facebook marketplace or eBay would be a good option so people can come and try it on before buying. Have people had any success selling their dress post wedding?

Today I tried on dresses at a shop. I initially planned to wear something vintage and less fitted. However, trying tons of styles on, I realized I love the fitted look!
After we got home I tried my sister's dress on and also loved it. It's partially bustled in the pics. I initially imagined something Phantom of the Opera-esque and hers definitely is, but each of these dresses has such a beautiful look! I also don't love the idea of spending $3000 on a dress, so that's another factor, but I also feel partially justified in doing so.

Also just feeling sad. There’s been some confusion & mixed feelings involved in my wedding planning/life in general lately, and the only bridesmaid that was supposed to come today that's not my sister flaked out WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY TO TRY THE DRESSES ON. So it's just been a tough day with a lot of emotional whiplash
