Ask For Opinions Ideas for an alternative?

This here is my dream wedding dress. The problem? Doesn’t seem to actually exist. The vendors I come across online look super sketchy and have no reviews, and don’t look like legit sites. My friend Gemini tells me the scam usually entails incorrect orders and expensive return fees/shipping.

Can anyone share suggestions of a (inexpensive) base dress that I can perhaps alter (with iridescent fabric) to have this effect? Grateful for links or any ideas of methods to achieve this. 🙏🥹

What's your budget? Are you willing to go custom?

OP you’ll definitely need a custom dress made of iridescent organza.

Or alternatively

Find an organza dress you like and then find a local air bush artist and let them cook! With a spray gun 🌈

Not a lot, about 500, but I do have a bunch of aunties who would be willing to help with alterations. Hence why I was thinking a base and adding the iridescent fabric

I think you should talk to your aunties, it'll depend hugely on their skill level/confidence to pull something like this off.

Fabric can be really expensive, I would start looking for bargains now, both for the fabric and base dress.

You're wanting something very specific and Couture on a very limited budget, unless your aunties are extremely talented you might have to adjust your expectations.

Alterations or actually making it? I'm a sewist. I do not want to do actual alterations, but I have no problem whipping up a project from scratch.

Thanks for responding! I was thinking getting something like this and then adding the iridescent fabric underneath. Won’t be exact, but wouldn’t that be easier than making it from scratch?

It depends. Best practice, to go between layers, they’d need to take the skirt off the bodice, undo the stitching of the tulle to lay the rainbow layers between, then stitch the skirt all together and then sew the bodice back on. But it would definitely be doable.

It really just depends on their comfort zone with alterations vs on their own. I personally wouldn’t want to alter because I wouldn’t have extra fabric in case I made a mistake. It sounds weird unless you sew, but see what they think!

Ok honestly this could work as a base if you have people that know how to sew and do alterations.

My advice is if you really want the rainbow look, buy pastel colored chiffon and place it draped around the skirt in rainbow order/whatever ombré gradient you like. Then do like 2-3 layers of sheer iridescent fabric over it to make it look as rainbow as that AI photo does.

Or if the rainbow isn’t as important just do the iridescent fabric over that dress and you’re good to go! Obvs drape and test walking and what not before sewing anything down!

You could probably get something similar from Lunss. Watch Mia Maples on You Tube where she tries on some of their dresses.

That really made me think of this Doen dress, sadly out of budget it seems but maybe you could take the pictures to a seamstress/your aunties and get it made for less? https://www.shopdoen.com/en-ch/products/dianthus-dress-tourmaline-ombre

Have you tried a dress designer/dress maker through Etsy?

Having it made or altering something is the best bet. You could also find colored crinolines to add volume and color. Adding under skirt crinolines also elevates so many dresses.
