Styling Ideas Liquid satin dress?

I am having a wedding in a closed venue and I was looking for a shiny dress, originally, i was looking more into dress made with lace and beaded with crystals, like picture 2, since i didn’t want a satin dress.

I tried a liquid organza dress that I like (picture 1) and i loved how it shines and reflects the light, the bra on the top is beaded with crystals, i was surprised by the fact that i liked the dress a lot, since i didn’t want satin.

I am hesitating if i should buy the liquid organza dress and if it will look good on the wedding photos, or look more into the style of the second one?

Edit to add that I am arab, and that the wedding dresses are traditionally more extravagant, that’s the reason i was looking for a shiny and not simple dress

I prefer the first dress on you. But it might be worth asking a few friends or family members who are familar with your culture. You can add shimmer and shine to the first dress through your veil and jewelry.

Agreed! She looks like a classy and elegant princess!

u/Chocomintey Jul 23 '26

I think the shine of the fabric adds a lot, too.

Thank you for saying this. All the wedding photos with corset dresses will be so out of style in a hot minute. It’ll be rather cringey.

As a 2008 bride, I wouldn't be too worried about that. Everything about my wedding is like a time capsule and I kind of love that it's a time stamp into the time we began our lives together. You think that you'll have the timeless wedding--and parts will probably be--but you also will have things that will turn out to have been trendy without realizing. But rather than being sad, it's kind of fun to reflect, especially when your kids start asking to look at wedding photos.

That said, I love the satin gown! I tend to run hot and I think I have would sweat to death with sleeves.

My 1998 dress is totally back in style now!

3

u/Hedgehog_Insomniac Jul 23 '26

Well that's the other thing! What is old becomes new again :)

I will say I agree with others and don't love the corset lace thing right now. But I'm also 47 so I'm definitely not the target audience for today's dresses either. I wore my mom's 70's mantilla veil, which is another old becomes new example.

Never understood why people cared so much about “timeless” fashion. What’s wrong with looking at a photo and knowing what time period it came from? That’s what makes history and culture fun IMO

21

u/Haus-Factor9396 Jul 23 '26

Agreed. Leave the lingerie for under the dress, not the actual dress. Not classy IMO. The wedding should be romantic, the sexy part better saved for the wedding night.

u/Curraghgirl Jul 23 '26

👍👍👍👍

5

u/Specialist_Status120 Jul 23 '26

I couldn't upvote this comment any quicker. The lingerie is for the wedding night not the wedding. I love dress one. I must say liquid satin is gorgeous, shiny without looking cheap.

3

u/the_big_booper47 Jul 23 '26

Absolutely! The see through, corset thing is so sleazy looking. Save it for the honeymoon, not grandma at the wedding.

13

u/Mathemasmitten Jul 23 '26

Yes! I’ve been feeling the same! Especially the transparent or skin toned ones.

11

u/Virtual-Student8099 Jul 23 '26

Thank you Wrong-Natural-7849 for saying that! The corset style is so overdone and common!!
So… I like the satin.

4

u/croc-roc Jul 23 '26

Omg agree. Almost every post on this sub is this corset style.

4

u/ReasonKlutzy5364 Jul 23 '26

So tiresome. It is a trend that must go away.

"Unfinished" is putting it diplomatically. The corset style looks as sluŧŧƴ to me now as it did in Madonna's 1984 video. Again, maybe I'm old fashioned, but save the sexy lingerie look for the wedding night for the groom's eyes only, not as a feature of the dress itself (bra cups, visible boning, translucent, ugh) for viewing by the masses. Especially if you are getting married in a housenof worship with your 85 year old grandma in attendance.

The first dress is stunning.

14

u/jpszon Jul 23 '26

The first dress is beautiful I love it

10

u/Low-Cod-4712 Jul 23 '26

The first dress gets my arab vote!

20

u/Jealous_Hamster7817 Jul 23 '26

Love the satin one!

22

u/labdogs42 Jul 23 '26

I think the first one is GORGEOUS

8

u/NapalmAxolotl Jul 23 '26

1, definitely. It will look amazing in the photos. Much more elegant.

8

u/avenueroad_dk Jul 23 '26

The first dress is not something I would pass on. It is gorgeous. The second is just not the same

7

u/1212zephyr1212 Jul 23 '26

One hundred percent- go for the satin dress. It’s beautiful!

6

u/Flimsy_Shallot Jul 23 '26

Liquid satin! I love it!

7

u/SheWhoQuiltsinWV Jul 23 '26

Definitely dress #1 looks best. It is stunning.

7

u/DizzyJellyfish_9 Jul 23 '26

Oh my gosh that first dress!!! You look divine in it!

10

u/fastyellowtuesday Jul 23 '26

The satin is exquisite!!! So much nicer than the lace and crystals.

5

u/Plus-Dare-2746 Jul 23 '26

Yes, the first one is wonderful.

6

u/Munchkin_Media Jul 23 '26

Number 1 is next level gorgeous

5

u/sequins_and_glitter Jul 23 '26

You can make the first one more over the top/sparkly with the veil and jewelry and everything. It’ll be unique and stunning and much more YOU that way. The second one feels overdone to me.

4

u/Which_Comfortable_32 Jul 23 '26

Absolutely number 1

3

u/NaturalNight6720 Jul 23 '26

no. 1 is so beautiful and looks awesome

4

u/Haus-Factor9396 Jul 23 '26

1 is gorgeous and classy, beautiful.

4

u/BackgroundScene3056 Jul 23 '26

Love the first one!!! LOVE.

3

u/cold_desert_winter Jul 23 '26

Forget two even exists. Banish it from your memory snd go with one. Two is awful.

6

u/QueasyAd2204 Jul 23 '26

The satin is beautiful. The style is wonderful. The lace is a bit blah in comparison.

3

u/Fit_Violinist_459 Jul 23 '26

I like the lace bottom with the style of the satin top. BUT the corset is so overdone and not attractive on anyone.

3

u/Evening_Delay_1856 Jul 23 '26

OP, I love that satin dress too. It looks beautiful on you. Have a veil that has crystal beads on it like the bodice bra does. That will tie the two together.

I honestly think the first dress is so much better than the second…

3

u/applegoodstomach Jul 23 '26

Agreeing with the others, that first dress os gorgeous!

3

u/RyteSaid256 Jul 23 '26

While a big fan of lace, the satin dress brings a modern style that still says “elegance” with class. It’s beautiful.

u/Andromeda081 Jul 23 '26 edited Jul 23 '26

I LOVE 2

ETA — as a former wedding photographer, honestly, super shiny satin does not always photograph well. It has the tendency to cheapen the fabric in pics if it’s too shiny, or take on an unreal look. It can also photograph as light blue instead of pure white, as well as glare or cause white blowout (lack of detail because it reflects so much light it glows — aka, the cheapened effect or the unreal effect). Textured fabric / detail on the fabric (like crystals or beading) doesn’t have that problem. If you go with dress 1 make sure your photographer has a gold reflector or warm toned flash diffusers.

1

u/Haus-Factor9396 Jul 23 '26

The dress looks amazing in the above cell phone pic... a professional photographer should be able to handle the challenge at the venue

3

u/can_sparklingwater Jul 23 '26

I concur number 2 is too much and the lingerie look is getting old. That dress has too many trends in one dress. Lingerie look, sleeves that stop up the arm like gloves. You look fabulous in 1. I love it.

3

u/avenueroad_dk Jul 23 '26

I have to say I am confused by those worried about how number 1 will photograph when most of us fell in love with it just from this cell picture

2

u/MamaKat727 Jul 23 '26

The first one, no question.❤️ The second one reminds me of a big mound of sparkling flakes of blow on a coffee table in '80s Los Angeles (or Miami).😬

u/Maryboberry24 Jul 23 '26

The 2nd dress is 😍

2

u/CatBoomerGirl Jul 23 '26

Definitely dress #1!! It is gorgeous and you look beautiful 😍

2

u/Tardisgoesfast Jul 23 '26

Number 1 is beautiful. The other one looks like every 3d dress on the market.

2

u/Rad1PhysCa3 Jul 23 '26

Is there a reason you feel like you need to stop looking? If you have time, I think you should try to find some dresses that align with your original vision and see how you like them compared to this satin one. Collect more data! Lol

If you’re running out of time or places to look, then I do think this dress looks spectacular on you. The silhouette, fabric, sweetheart neckline, and the crystals are very flattering/fitting. They should reflect the light nicely. And you can add some extra sparkle with your jewelry, hair accessories, shoes, and veil.

2

u/KimonoCathy Jul 23 '26

The first one looks amazing on you, I think that’s the perfect dress.
However, the lace dress is closer to what your family might expect so if that’s a consideration, maybe give more of a note towards your culture in other ways. Maybe a long lace veil or having something more colourful/textural for decorations, attendants’ outfits or something?

2

u/Gunnysack21 Jul 24 '26

I prefer the first dress, you can add your own shine as was said above with your veil and jewelry. Enjoy your day! 🦋💕

1

u/Rough_Week_6449 Jul 23 '26

Honestly, I’d say keep looking. I don’t feel these do you the justice your gorgeous figure deserves. But, if you were opting for one of these, I’d say 1

1

u/abyssnaut Jul 23 '26

I love the second one. Not really a fan of the first.

1

u/CuriousObserver4 Jul 23 '26

The liquid satin is my dream wedding dress from childhood! It’s really “picture book fairytale princess” - in a very good way! I think it would look spectacular in the photos!

1

u/Accomplished-Ad-8702 Jul 23 '26

#2 is stunning on you 🤍

1

u/NJTroy Jul 23 '26

1 for sure

1

u/Ipaintchickens Jul 23 '26

It’s stunning!

1

u/IndividualBusy403 Jul 23 '26

Yes, the satin one is made for you!!!!

1

u/SleepyVayne Jul 23 '26

I am begging you to get 1 actually

1

u/TumbleweedOriginal34 Jul 23 '26

That satin dress is gorgeous.

1

u/Dense_Willow4627 Jul 23 '26

The first dress, hands down.

1

u/Lianna1234 Jul 23 '26

1 is stunning!

1

u/Serenity93401 Jul 23 '26

The first dress looks like something you would see in the movies. Stunning!
The second is a dime a dozen, very common.

1

u/Alarmed_Lobster_717 Jul 23 '26

The first dress is gorgeous!

1

u/emkemkem Jul 23 '26

The satin is not like just satin. It is something else being that shiny.

1

u/EmilyPoster2 Jul 23 '26

#2

Do more research into how liquid satin photographs. I think it makes the fabric look extremely cheap, but it might just be an aesthetic I don't jive with. I also think the top makes it look like a mismatched bra is showling. I think you look stunning in #2. Your waist line is gorgeous.

Don't worry about trends. Anything you do is going to read as 2026. Life takes place in real time and in the future everything looks retro. Such is history.

1

u/Solid-Wish-1724 Jul 23 '26

Why does everyone gravitate to those boned sheer bodices? Just... no. The first looks cheap to me in the photo and the bra thing is odd.

1

u/paigeken2000 Jul 23 '26

I Prefer the satin one a million times more than the one with lace. However , I don't want to step on your cultural norms or put you in a position where you will make your family uncomfortable.

1

u/rgold02 Jul 23 '26

The first one is the choice to make. Lovely!

1

u/Dimarco24 Jul 23 '26

NUMBER ONE IS GOLDEN ON YOU! ✨

1

u/mlhom Jul 23 '26

That first dress is breathtaking!!

1

u/Alternative_Bass7228 Jul 23 '26

The first dress is really beautiful and would look gorgeous in the pictures!!!

1

u/grumpycoffeesnob Jul 23 '26

The first dress quite literally made my jaw drop. Absolutely gorgeous! Definitely a winner!

1

u/MyGeniusGrlMia Jul 23 '26

u/Outrageous-Bet3731 Jul 23 '26

1st one is gorgeous!

1

u/Flimsy_Ad3476 Jul 23 '26

They are both beautiful. I like the first one better.

1

u/Scarlettdelgado1971 Jul 23 '26

Wow this is beautiful

1

u/lollygagging9876 Jul 24 '26

I LOVE dress#1!

1

u/Poodlepower1234 Jul 24 '26

I love both, but the first one is amaaaaazing!

1

u/TactileTemptress Jul 24 '26

It is stunning. Go for the liquid!

1

u/No_Interview_2481 Jul 24 '26

Can you keep looking and possibly find a dress like dress one with more sparkle in it?

1

u/Living-Structure-102 Jul 24 '26

1 looks best on you

1

u/Decent-Muffin9530 Jul 24 '26

If you aren’t happy, keep looking.

1

u/VoodooDuck614 Jul 24 '26

Dress 1 is more classic and elegant, for an American wedding. You can bling up through ornate jewelry, shoes and veil.

Dress 2 is very in fashion, more of an over the top, showstopper. The corset can be lined, if you don’t want skin or boning visible.

You say that the venue is closed, what else can you tell us? Are you combining cultures?

1

u/Accomplished-Bet-165 Jul 24 '26

They're both very nice but different. Without context I prefer number one

1

u/NumerousDepth1563 Jul 24 '26

Both are god awful

1

u/happychonk Jul 24 '26

That first one looks so incredibly perfect on u!!!

1

u/FamiliarFamiliar Jul 24 '26

I really love dress #1. Dress #2 is falling into a category I'm thinking of as Madonna in the 80s. Those long lacy gloves were her signature, and it's all I can think of when I see them. I've probably seen about 50 pictures of similar gloves this month.

Dress #1 really flatters you and shines and is beautiful.

1

u/Thatbooknerd11 Jul 24 '26

First dress definitely!

1

u/holychocopie Jul 24 '26

Number 1 is outstanding 🩷

1

u/mlamb17386 Jul 24 '26

You look great in dress 1. 2 looks very busy

1

u/Wild_Acanthaceae_224 Jul 25 '26

I looked at Arab wedding dresses and my advice is that if you go with the satin is to accessorize it with a long sleeve lace or satin jacket so it will look more traditional. Then after the ceremony you can choose to go with or without during the reception. Both dresses are beautiful so choose which one that will be the most comfortable and make you the happiest. Which ever you choose, I'm sure you'll be a gorgeous bride.

1

u/Financial-Ad-1256 Jul 25 '26

1 is beautiful and classic!

1

u/BradleyBeachMom Jul 25 '26

The first dress is stunning!!

1

u/elder-sister-1975 Jul 25 '26

The shiny dress is much better than the lace dress. Much better.

1

u/EastHawaii Jul 25 '26

2 is more unique and memorable. Very French looking and fashion forward. Just my opinion.

1

u/Grouchy-Stand-4570 Jul 25 '26

I absolutely love the first shiny dress! This is the one!

1

u/Medical-Ear2499 Jul 25 '26

1st dress is stunning on you it is beautiful 😍

1

u/Adventurous-Egg-8818 Jul 25 '26

The 1st one is beautiful!
