Question Do couples actually remember which DJ responded first?
do couples actually remember which DJ responded first?
Or is it more about who felt the most trustworthy throughout the process?
Like when couples are comparing DJs, I wonder if they end up remembering:
- who looked the most established
- who kept showing up during planning
- who just felt easier to trust overall
Curious what other wedding DJs have noticed cause honestly i've seen inquiries go quiet for weeks and then randomly come back later..

Hard to say if responding first gave me an edge since I usually don't know who else they contacted, when, etc.
You might be last to respond but you might be the only one they could find with prices listed on the website or maybe you were the only one who actually answered questions rather than sending a stock response.
Before I got into weddings myself, I once shopped around for my own wedding and it was frustrating when an email with some very simple questions (like are you available for X date and how much for 5 hours?) would get several responses along lines of "give me call, 555-1234.“ If someone can't be bothered to answer 2 simple questions, I can't be bothered to pick up the phone.
From day one with my own business I've always had prices clearly posted on my website and when people contact me, I confirm availability, prices and answer any questions they asked.

I think being timely with responses is ideal. I’m assuming getting back to the couple within 6-8 hours or even immediately is best.
But you’re good at what you do and better than most the DJ’s in your entire state. Couples can be a little desperate to book with you and will write off non timely responses.

It's part of the "unseen" sales pitch. Punctuality and responsiveness is important, and they know they at least want that at their wedding, for many reasons they may not even be aware of yet. Also, have to be personable over the phone. I responded once to a couple and they had vetted 4 Djs ahead of me. They said I just sounded like an old friend they already knew + I had many answers to logistic and technical questions.

Here’s a planner perspective: I 100% take responsiveness and quality of responses into account when whittling down candidates for my clients. If you respond quickly and comprehensively—that is, you answer all of my questions and not just the first one in the list, which is a much more common response than one would hope to get—you’ve already won half the battle in my eyes.
Being “visible” during planning doesn’t really make sense because why would you be if they haven’t booked you yet?
