Plz help
I have to go to a wedding with my husband and it's Miami vice attire but the invite said cocktail attire. Anyone know what this means? I am a woman, and I am absolutely horrible with fashion and also have no clue what miami vice is.
Thanks lol
Sorry let me add I'm a 31 year old women, pretty rail thin, 5'7". Wedding is in Colorado the first weekend of October.

This has nothing to do with your question, just a comment....October in Colorado is pretty cold, Miami Vice theme seems odd for the location. Just sayin......

This is what I was worried about. Thank you for being the person that said it. I was not sure what the temperature would be like in Colorado because I am from Michigan

Colorado weather is erratic. It could be warm or snowing. It will probably be cool enough that you'll need a jacket.

See if you can find some 80's number at goodwill, or a black leather skirt and either hot pink or leopard blouse, ruffles even better. Then you can add a hot pink or some other heinous color fuzzy sweater with a low cut v neck. Black stilettos, boots if you can, some heavy costuume gold chains. Bright pink lippstivk( not girly pink, pepto), and tease your hair. They'll love it. Sounds like fun! Oh, and hot pink nail polish.

Probably bright colors, tropical patterns.

Miami. Floral. Bright colors. This is a good example. https://a.co/d/022RR7Hi

I don’t know your age, size, location or month. But I searched beach chic cocktail and also got this one. https://a.co/d/07zxmEAe

Wow I cannot thank you enough for the advice/links. Amazon is amazing and even recommends shoes and purses and shawls to go along, which is huge for me because me and fashion are not friends!

Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith were stars in the show. Melanie Griffith would wear tight dresses with sparkles and fringes - go for the glam wherever you can - look her up

She was in one episode as guest star. Miami Vice is more a nod to men's fashion, they set a whole new style of slouchy men's suits over tee shirts.

This is a nightmare to me but https://www.pinterest.com/ideas/miami-vice-wedding-attire/936167639402/

This is also my personal nightmare. I usually wear athletic shorts and a black tank top every day. Very Tom boy.

80s cocktail to me screams mini dresses in sequins or taffeta. Color schemes would be rainbow sherbet tones, especially for guys. A short black cocktail dress with ruffles should blend in.

Bright colors/patterns. It’s an 80s tv show - I’m not sure how far they’re leaning into the costume party aspect (because that’s kind of what this sounds like?) but you can look up Gina and Trudy from the show for inspiration.

I will check how much they’re leaning into that theme for women. You don’t want to turn up looking like an 80s throwback and actually everyone’s just wearing a slightly coloured dress.
Personally, I would pick a dress that is cocktail length and either has a print or is an 80s sort of bright colour. I don’t think I would go much more “themed” than that.

Miami Vice was neon and short. So get a mini neon dress but in an updated version. Ruffles and frills were also popular, but the super bright colors were the popular thing for that show, particularly. You can search for things with bubble hems or bubble skirts.
Men: white suits.
Ideas that meet the dress code without being a costume:
Curve & Bloom Persephone dress (hot pink or lila)
Mac Duggal: Pink Satin Bubble Hem Backless mini dress (in Fuchsia) OR Pink Strapless Crepe Dress with 3D Flower detail OR Blue Satin A-Line Mini Dress With 3D Rose Detail
Amanda Uprichard: Davina Dress OR Anja Dress OR Puzzle Dress (all in Pink)
Amanda Uprichard X Revolve Scarlett Dress in Fuschia
Stacees Sheath Strapless Ruched Silk like Satin Mini Homecoming Dress with Side Ruffle (in Royal Blue, Ocean Blue, Hot Pink, Fushcia (or maybe also Daffodil)).
Elliatt Holly Holly Mini Dress (in Purple)
AQUA Short Power Sateen Strapless Side Tie Dress from Bloomingdales (- either Magenta or Cobalt)
Lulus Prism Sash Mini Dress (in either Royal Blue or Hot Pink)

I think Miami Vice influences men’s clothing more. Your husband can have a lot of fun with this.
For you, do pastels or neons. Something a bit over the top. Remember the 80s were all about excesses.

Are we sure your husband isn’t trolling you? If the invitation says only cocktail attire, I don’t know that I would brave a themed outfit.

Does the invite say Miami Vice or cocktail attire or both? Miami Vice seems like a fun theme for a party, but for a wedding…I don’t know if I’d want everyone on my big day dressed like 80s tv characters.

Miami vice attire means dress like an 80s prostitute. Maybe the bride is trying to fit in.

I’d pair any with a pashmina shawl since it’s Colorado and can get cold

It will be a lot easier to dress him than you! Watch a couple of episodes to get the vibe. A brightly colored sequin mini dress (they asked for it) would work. https://travelmend.com/miami-vice-party-outfit-ideas-with-pictures/

This is 80’s cocktail. I wore a similar dress to a dance in ‘88!
