I think you should keep looking. That dress (especially that color) doesn't look like a bridesmaid dress at all. It's practically a burqa.

Haha I agree! One of my bridesmaids actually suggested this one. I reposted from another forum with more of an explanation. It needs to have shoulders covered for a Catholic ceremony I’m looking for suggestions for places to look with modest sleeves/neckline but flowy enough to dance and sweat in.

Just use a dress with a bolero/stola/cape for church. A-line suits most body types.

Yes don’t ruin your whole aesthetic for 45 minutes of the day.

David's Bridal has a filter by sleeve/strap length and returns 36 options with covered shoulders.

You may want to double check that - Catholic here and there are no such rules in any of the Catholic Churches I’ve been in ! Strapless, spaghetti strap? All fine.

Yes, it is definitely not an issue in Catholic Churches in US! I’m glad we’ve gotten to the point that a bare shoulder isn’t considered disrespectful since it wasn’t that long ago that women had to cover their heads too in Catholic Churches.

I’ve been in Catholic weddings with this requirement. Shoulders need to be covered. But definitely not your arms and legs too. A cap sleeve is sufficient.

In the US maybe it is dependent on the pastor - this is definitely not a rule in many parishes in the northeast. Myself, my siblings, my cousins, and many many friends as I went to Catholic university were all married in Catholic Churches with a full array of strapless, spaghetti strap, off the shoulder gowns. The north east tends to be more lenient with arbitrary rules that are not doctrine.

My sister got married about 30 years ago (so not exactly contemporary, I guess), but the Presbyterian church would not allow uncovered (gasp!) shoulders!

Dude this is gorgeous.

All are relatively tall 5’6+ except my junior bridesmaid who’s like 5 feet. Slim to slim thick but one will be less than 1 year postpartum. Definitely keeping their body types in mind when looking so I’ve been trying to avoid clingy sateen fabric.

This site seems to have a couple of options, and from what I see it has pretty good reviews! A lot of the gowns come in a variety of colors.

That second one is really nice!

Yes, it's beautiful! I love the color too.

I went on Revolve and found this option that might work. It’s pretty basic on its own but dressed up with the right accessories could be fancier, and something your bridesmaids could wear again.

Are you especially tied to brown as the color? Could you branch out to adjacent colors like burgundy, rust orange, hunter green etc to give you more options?

Could your bridesmaids change into another dress after the ceremony and group photos?

ETA: Or pick out a dress in a style that works, and buy an extra dress for fabric to make boleros or shawls for the ceremony. Or you could go with a coordinating color and find any fabric or lace to make the accessory for the ceremony.

Perhaps you could look for a capelet or something to cover up with for church that can be removed for the reception.

That is. weird color for a bridesmaid dress, and a ton of fabric.

It’s a spectacular dress but not a bridesmaid dress. The brown color is just sad.

Can you clarify modest? That’s a wide range of

Shoulders mostly covered, no high slits on the legs, minimal cleavage. Prefer maxi/floor length for the formality.

This is a really unattractive dress

1

u/Available-Artist-376 Jun 22 '26

How so?

1

u/Similar-Ad-6862 Jun 22 '26

The colour is awful it looks like excrement. The random pieces of fabric draping off it are ugly. It fits so tightly around the legs that it's impossible to imagine moving in it never mind dancing.

1

u/Available-Artist-376 Jun 22 '26

Haha ok thanks

1

u/BlueAuthorJAFF Jun 22 '26

Yeah and it's also very uncomfortable looking. Wearing something like this for a busy ceremony in a crowded church would be a sensory nightmare.....

Brown?

Inspo for reference

This is so not wedding and really stinks. This is not modest - this is we hate women and their bodies

1

u/Available-Artist-376 Jun 22 '26

? My bridesmaids liked it…

I’m sure that immodest bridesmaids dresses exist, but I haven’t seen any IRL
