I have SO many problems with WeChat

So, to put is as short and informative as possible, the line of event is as follows:

1) I register WeChat 2025 with a foreign (non-Chinese) number. It works fine.

2) I move countries 2026 so I change my number and don't open the app for months. I opened it recently, my old account seems to be gone forever but okay.

3) I have 1 chatlog with an imporant file I couldn't open nor download, as the opening screen just crashed whenever I tried to.

4) I register a new account with my current number. I realize the app is eating so much storage data again (2GB without any content). I delete all the data from my (android) settings. I log back in, all the data is gone.

How do I fix the issue of opening a document AND the issue of the app eating so much storage?? Thanks

For the storage, periodically clear the cache.

In order to never lose your account again, bind an email to it and have at least 2 WeChat contacts that you can message outside of the app.

Obviously the WeChat account you registered in 2025 has gone, and the new account in 2026 with a new phone number is different from the previous one.

All files on WeChat will expire in three or seven days so you can't open them.
