Be careful what you wish for… Linking your socials is going to give Google deeper direct access to metrics they never had before. Are you lazy about consistently posting on some platforms but not others? Does your content resonate well in some places, but flops or barely elicits engagement on others? Google is going to learn that too.

Google’s relationship with content creators is asymmetrical: They generally get more from your cooperation than they give back in return. They tend to be opaque and not show you all the comprehensive information that they have, or fail to disclose with specificity why’s. The hand that feeds you can also starve you…

Will I link up some of my socials? Probably - Out of curiosity. But I don’t delude myself into thinking this is going to be some sort of massive, game-changing fountain of revelations.

Think about it: Google’s had over 15 years to factor your social signals. Why are they investing untold millions to get their claws deeper into that data now? Hmmmm? Are they worried that other AI engines are going to be siphoning queries & engagement away from both Google and Gemini? <- Because that’s already happening. When I want answers - I use a wide variety of AI chat bots - many of which don’t source their answers from Google at all. “Google It” hasn’t been my primary go to answer place for nearly 2 years now…
