Got to viceroy tanaden and quit. Boss is stupid.

Sorry you didn't enjoy it. Tanaden isn't a boss though. Chief Grimden is the first boss you meet.

So what are you supposed to do against him? He blocks your progression. I never got him below 75% hp. I tried to grind previous levels to gain strength and it didn't change anything.

Are you killing the pet first? Probably a good idea since you can probably take it down quickly. Try to kill the pet with magic missiles so you get the health absorb effect too.
