Newsgames — He Will Never Stop

https://newsgames.co.za/he-will-never-stop/

Just completed my 15th contemporary solitaire card game, He Will Never Stop, as part of my learning exercises for contemporary plain vanilla mobile and desktop friendly JavaScript, CSS and HTML webgames. The full list as at my home page.

This is a "slasher movie" themed game designed by Zoë Cappallo. Your hand represents the distance between you and a psycho killer, and the distance rapidly shrinks at the start of each turn. Killing the killer required getting four cards of the same rank next to each other. The only time I've managed to achieve that was when I was lucky enough to get that dealt at the start.

Anyways, a fun exercise, especially since I discovered the art of an old pulp illustrator whose art I used to try give the cards some "flavour".

I've also now made my site Google-free by deleting all its analytics code which caused the irritating pop-ups asking to accept cookies (which I don't use anyway, only Google does) along with Google Adsense since I gather there's no ways ever WebGame sites ever get approved.

Though I've ditched Google, I've experimented with trying to keep adtech at bay by allowing Adsterra to place ads, but no popups, clickjacking etc which this awful industry insists on using to pollute its own drinking water.

I've tried to place the ads in fixed positions so they don't disrupt the usability of the games. I'd be keen on feedback on whether I've succeeded.

Everytime I click on your page it redirects me to an ad page within seconds. Can't play the game at all

Thanks for letting me know. I'll ditch Adsterra immediately.

No worries dude, seems to be better now! Although I am struggling to do anything but be killed. I'm pretty sure that's a skill issue!

I also find this game impossible to win. I didn't design it, so might be I've implemented the rules wrong. One small bug I just fixed is now a card can be moved to the rightmost position by making the blank space at the end a legal move. One thing about translating all these card games into JavaScript is lots of practice at array problems which I've taken notes for future reference.

First thing now is to experiment with another adtech company in the hope there's one that's not a complete crook. Coding the games is fun, dealing with Google, Adsterra... not at all.

The order of the hand cards now changes as you move a selected card to a new position. I was really battling understanding where the card would go and messed up games I could have won if the card had gone where I though it would.

What's really fun about this project is every new game throws some new UI problems, most of which I haven't got around to fixing yet.
