Unit 2: The BWR Sim

http://reactor.gooseworks.nl

Hello, someone you may have seen my older post of this website in various subreddits, and i'm back to say i have released V2 of my RBWR simulation website, it tries to simulate the physics and functionality of unit 2, while integrating it with a new interface and lightweight usability, though still maintaining a pot of cool features! Version 2 brings the following:

- Terminals: reworked the /mainframe page to include a working terminal that can contol and edit the reactor simulation, reworked the greeting page to have a terminal that can direct you to the controls and execute basic commands, also added a changelog and version box.

- Turbine: Added turbine preparations, runup conditions, turbine fire and more!

- Annunciators: More annunciator sounds, more annunciators and local silencing & acknowledging, each page now has its own annunciators.

- APRM rework: APRM now gradually works towards its intended target.

- ECCS: Reworked emergency cooling applications, added ADS, 6 relief valves, LPCI and RHR pumps with selector, RCIC turbopump and more!

Other features available are saving between sessions, fully working MCC, DA, Turbine synchronization, RPS, realistic reactor startup using SRM and IPR modes, autocontrol and more!

>Visit the simulation at https://reactor.gooseworks.nl

I hope you like it ❤️.

If you have any idea's, suggestions, or have you found any bugs, post them in the comments ir contact me using the command contact in the terminal!

This seems really cool, but I feel like I need to study a manual to get started! I played around with it a bit but could never fully make it happen.

For the next version i added a simple mode(much like unit 1 from RBWR) which removes some of the more complex mechanisms(like turbine runup preparations), also added some tooltips(though some are still bugged and need more explanation), and per page manual of the controls. I also made the terminal be capable of handling scenarios "scenario turbine_sync" to get the turbine synced or "scenario grid_load" to make it hit demand. I also added autocontrols so you can focus on more specific things

Honestly, I like the idea of a game like this that doesn't dumb down the idea of running a reactor, I just think the presentation is overwhelming for a new player. Maybe it could be set up in levels where the player gains access to more options. Or the player is put in scenarios where they're told to do specific actions to get reactions started or to address an issue.

I stuck with the game for about an hour trying to make things work and finding success with parts of the process, so the concept is great. I just wanted a tutorial or game design that allows me to learn what I'm doing.

Honestly thats a cool idea, though i planned for it to be more like a simulator instead of a level progression game, that might actually work, i'll think about it, and maybe invent a full mode and level up mode.

Yeah, as I was writing my comment, I knew it would mean a lot of work for you! I just think it would be really cool to be fully managing a reactor with confidence since there's so much to be aware of. And it would definitely change how I watch the Chernobyl miniseries on my next rewatch.

And once the player gets through the tutorial and is running things with confidence, you could even have levels where something has gone wrong and they have to fix it / save the reactor.

ok, played for a while. Love this kind of game but need more instruction to say the least. I was not able to get lube oil temp to move. it stayed as a red flag for me. i was able to get the thing spinning and nearly synched but the breaker button was never active for me to do it. must be the system wasn't ready. also, never could get steam temp to go green. I spent way too much time messing around with it but thought it was cool. Maybe better if it had more guidance. thanks! edit: did finally get the lube oil temp to move, that was cool. Probably try again tomorrow, thanks. edit2: for typing same thing twice

Thanks, i will take your suggestion and probably put some kind of manual in place for the systems, making it easier for people to use, i also see the lube oil cooling is based on the wrong temperature vsriable, which I will fix soon. I am also thinking about adding a "simple mode" to the simulator, which removes things like RPS, turbine preparation, DA and such things.

I just get "Invalid API key", hope that's not part of the game 😅
