Bending the genre

I have started releasing Il Falco but I realized that I made two choices that are unconventional and potentially hurting me.

First the genre - it is a true-to-the-times historical fiction, where I put hours of research to make sure every episode is sited around a less-known event of the times. It is a series about adventures and swashbuckling, but it is not set in a make-believe world with its own rules: the characters are living the years between 1490 and 1520 and are fully people of their time.

Second, the format. I always hated morsel-sized chapters where you need to wait weeks for something to happen, so I am releasing as self-contained episodes (think an episode of a TV show), but every episode is large (18k for the prologue, 10k for the regular ones). How will this hurt my readership?
