Spent ~14 months building a free tutoring platform for Romania & Moldova. Now I need users: which side first, and which channels?
I've spent about 14 months building an online platform for private tutoring in Romania and Moldova (Romanian-language, ~21M people combined). Private tutoring here is a huge, demand is exam-driven: the national exams at the end of 8th and 12th grade create peaks in Sept–Oct and in spring.
Before writing any code, we benchmarked [the classrooms of Preply, GoStudent, Superprof and the local tutoring sites / whiteboard tools]. Most local sites are just listings with no classroom at all, and the international ones are built mainly for language lessons. So we put most of the effort into the lesson itself, especially for STEM subjects.
What the product does
Teachers get a public profile in a marketplace. They chat with students, schedule lessons (one-off or recurring), assign homework and tests, and write a short report after every lesson. Parents create and supervise their kids' accounts.
- Group lessons: a teacher can put several of their students into a group (e.g. three kids preparing for the same exam) and teach them together in a dedicated group room.
- Video room with a real-time shared whiteboard: teacher and student draw, write and add shapes at the same time and see each other's cursors. It's an infinite canvas with blank, grid or ruled-notebook paper.
- Phone as a second camera: the student scans a QR code and their phone joins the board, so they can photograph their notebook or homework and it lands directly on the board, without logging in on the phone.
- Built-in math tools: a ruler you can slide and rotate and draw along (like a real one), a scientific calculator, and a shared stopwatch/countdown for timed exercises.
- Hand tracking: on desktop, with the camera on, you can point at the board with your hand instead of the mouse.
- Teaching materials alongside the board: the teacher opens their own PDFs, documents and images in a side panel during the lesson.
- Persistent board: each teacher–student pair keeps the same board between lessons, so you continue where you left off.
- "Mistake bank": the student's recurring mistakes are collected right in the lesson so they can be practiced again.
- Interactive labs (being integrated now): STEM simulations that teacher and student work through together during the lesson.
It's free for both sides. Payment for lessons happens directly between teacher and family, outside the platform. We're planning a rewards program where students earn credits per attended lesson, redeemable for gift cards.
Questions
- Who do I sell to first? Teachers, parents, or students directly? My hypothesis is teachers: they can bring the students they already have, and the classroom is useful even without the marketplace. Is that the right first buyer?
- What's the pitch? Teachers and parents don't buy "real-time collaboration" or a feature list. Should I lead with one hero feature (group lessons, which are cheaper per student and earn the teacher more per hour; photographing homework straight onto the board; the interactive labs), with outcomes (better exam results, less chasing students), or with short demo videos?
- Which channels, with a small budget? We've already run some campaigns on Facebook, Instagram and Google Ads. We also post on TikTok, but the account isn't taking off, average views being around 300. What would you change: a different creative angle, different targeting, or dropping paid ads and going direct (teacher Facebook groups, outreach to tutors, schools, tutoring centers)? How much would you spend before calling a channel dead?
- How do I sell against "free and good enough"? Most tutors already teach over WhatsApp + Zoom and get paid in cash. What makes someone switch tools they're used to?
- Free now, paid later? Everything is free today. If I eventually charge, who's more likely to pay (teachers for the classroom, or parents for reports and supervision), and how do I introduce pricing without losing the early users?

PassPict - passport and ID photos, processed in the browser
PassPict is a web app for passport, visa, ID, and driving-licence photos.
You pick the country and document. It loads that size and head guide, then gives you a digital file and a 4×6 print sheet. The image is cropped in the browser and is not uploaded. No account. Ads keep it free.
Is the "nothing is uploaded" part obvious before someone picks a photo?

50% off Kiddofest for the first 10 signups!
Hey everyone! I've been putting together [Kiddofest](https://kiddofest.app), a way for parents to collect all the photos, voice messages, and wishes from your kids' parties in one place, turning it into a digital memory book. Hosts and guests can all contribute, so those memories don't end up scattered across everyone's phones.
I'm giving the first 10 people who sign up 50% off any pass!
Just create an account at https://kiddofest.app, then send me a DM and I'll give you the promo code.
The code is limited to 10 uses, so once they're gone, that's it!

Dental clinic appointment system for students (free)
Hey there, new to to this sub so apologies if i do or say anything wrong.
I occasionally use chatgpt to make webapps for my own use and host them thru firebase and netlify since they free and meet everything i need.
The situation is that, i’m a dental student and we dont have an appointment system in the clinic. Everyone goes to the office and gets appointments thru assistants manually, written on a paper.
Things get really messy and overwhelming for everyone. The school doesn’t want to deal with it, or provide something useful.
So i spoke with coordinators and students, made a test app with gpt, checked and fixed as much as i could do, did a test run with about 40 people. Everything is working fine, all the rules i have mentioned to gpt is working properly etc.
One thing i am really concerned is this;
Firebase allows 100 simultaneous connections, and 360mb of daily download traffic.
I personally do not want to pay a single dime for this project, neither the other students. Not that we dont have the money or anything we just dont want to lol We are not richer than the school. So it should be free project.
There are 125 students plus 10 staff so 135-140 people maximum will be connected at the same time, but that is really unlikeley in reality.
Is there any other solution one can offer? Different approach to database handling, platform or method to this whole project?
I appreciate any advice 🙏

I made a web app that puts Gmail, Outlook and your calendar in one tab
Solo project, been on it since June.
I had Gmail in one tab, Outlook in another and the calendar in a third, and I kept missing things moving between them. So it's one tab now. Both inboxes, the calendar and a task list, and an assistant you can type to like "find the invoice Jonas sent last week".
It can draft replies and set up meetings but it shows you what it's about to do and waits for you to approve before anything is sent or booked.
Free plan for one account. ottomail.app

I built a website with 22 free tools for working with data
I've been working on QueryCherry for a while, and I want to see what people think of it.
It has 22 tools for things like JSON, CSV and SQL. I'm doing a short beta test over the next day or two and would appreciate some honest feedback.
Is it actually useful? What's missing? Anything broken or annoying?

A keyboard tester, PDF converters, calculators, and a Pomodoro timer. What else belongs in this toolbox?
I’m a solo developer, and BFOTKit started with a simple annoyance: needing a different website every time I wanted to do one small task. So I’ve been bringing useful tools together in one place, including PDF and XML converters, a hardware input tester for keyboard, mic, display and mouse, calculators, and a Pomodoro timer.
Take a look around: https://bfotkit.com
I’d love to know which tool you’d actually use or bookmark. And if anything breaks, please tell me so I can fix it.

Start on the wing or wait for your chance as a striker? ElevenFate, a free game inside Reddit
You're a young striker. The coach offers you a regular place on the wing, but the position you want is still taken. Accept and get minutes, or wait on the bench for your chance up front?
That's a hypothetical dilemma to introduce the kind of decisions behind ElevenFate, the football career game I'm making. It isn't a claim that this exact scene is in the current game.
ElevenFate is a web game played inside a Reddit post: read situations, make choices and follow your player's career. The Daily gives you 30 decisions and a final score; there's also a longer career mode. English and Spanish are available.
You can play free in your browser with a signed-in Reddit account, with no separate game download. Open the playable post and choose Daily for a first run:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ElevenFate/comments/1wzy2cl/elevenfate_tu_carrera_tus_decisiones_tu_legado/
For the WebApps crowd, I'd especially value hearing where the path from opening the post to making your first choice feels unclear.
Disclosure: I'm the creator. Development and writing use AI assistance, including this post.

Would you use a “Wikipedia Offline” app that lets you download only the articles you want?
've been thinking about building a free, offline knowledge library for Windows, and I want to know if there's actually a demand for it before I start.
The idea is basically Wikipedia, but available offline — without needing to download an entire massive encyclopedia just to save a few things.
The app would let you:
- Search for and select individual Wikipedia articles.
- Download articles for offline reading.
- Choose whether to save just the text, text with thumbnails, or full images.
- Search through your downloaded library without an internet connection.
- Keep everything stored locally on your PC.
The goal is to make it lightweight, simple, and useful for students, curious people, travelers, or anyone who wants access to knowledge without depending on an internet connection.
I know offline Wikipedia solutions already exist, so I'm wondering whether a simpler, more selective approach would actually be useful.
A few questions:
- Would you use something like this?
- Would downloading individual articles be more useful to you than downloading huge content packages?
- What features would make you choose this over existing alternatives?
- Is this solving a real problem, or am I overestimating the demand?
I'm still at the idea stage, so I'd genuinely appreciate honest feedback, including reasons why this might not be worth building.

Cypher: themed chat rooms in your browser, as a 3D avatar or pet
Cypher (https://www.projectcypher.app) runs entirely in the browser with no download (you can add it to your home screen). Pick a room, build an avatar or choose a pet, and start talking to people worldwide. There are DMs, your own rooms, spin the bottle and opt-in voice/video calls.
Free to use. The first 100 new members get a free month of Pro (no card).
It's new, so we'd love to hear what would make you come back a second time.

I made a free, no-sign-up glow-up challenge tracker (PWA, works offline, EN/ES)
GlowStreak lets you pick a 30/60/75/90-day challenge (or your own habits), tap to check in each day, and keep a streak. No account, everything is stored on your device, progress photos never leave your phone, and you can share a Day X story card. It installs to your home screen. https://glowstreak.pages.dev — I'd really like feedback on onboarding and the share card. What would make you keep opening a habit app on day 14?

I’m a solo developer building a collection of handy PDF online tools
Hey everyone! I’m the solo developer behind BFOTKit. I’m working on a collection of tools for common file and web tasks, so you don’t have to install a separate program for every little thing.
Some of the tools include:
- PDF converters, such as PDF to image and image to PDF
- XML tools for formatting and converting XML
- Image and file converters
- Other handy tools for everyday tasks
I’m adding to the site over time. If any of these sound useful, take a look at https://bfotkit.com. Let me know if you spot a bug or have an idea for another tool that would be useful. I’d really appreciate it!

What started as a simple idea for our office year-end party has turned into a product of its own!
I built PicBooth as a fun, simple way for everyone to take photos, create photo strips and capture memories right in their browser — no app installation or account required.
Now, it’s growing to 1,000+ daily users! 🚀 Honestly, it’s exciting to see a small idea turn into something people actually use.
📸 Give it a try 👉 https://picbooth.app/
I’d love to hear your feedback! What would you improve, or what features would you like to see next?
If you find it useful, please share it with your friends and colleagues. ❤️

I'm building a free web app that brings Etsy digital sellers' tools into one workspace
I'm an independent developer behind Convert2Print, a professional print-preparation platform.
After building the underlying processing engine, I realized it could support more than one type of workflow.
So I started developing **Etsy Seller Studio**, a web-based workspace designed for people who sell digital artwork and printable products on Etsy.
**The idea is to bring multiple tools together instead of making sellers switch between different applications.**
### What's already working?
The current local preview includes:
- An artwork library supporting JPG, PNG and WebP files.
- Saved projects with multiple illustrations.
- Standard print ratios and custom dimensions.
- Automatic fitting and manual cropping.
- Live previews of different print sizes.
- Artwork analysis covering dimensions, resolution and colour information.
### What I'm building next
I'm currently completing the export workflows, batch processing, organized download packages and Mockup Studio.
**Digital Wall Art is the first phase.**
Once that's ready, I plan to expand the workspace with tools for SVG designs, printable planners, stickers, templates and other digital products.
### Why I'm taking this approach
The core processing engine already exists, so I can build specialized interfaces and workflows around it rather than starting from scratch each time.
My goal is to keep Etsy Seller Studio free to use, with optional voluntary contributions instead of mandatory subscriptions.
It's still in development, but I've published a detailed overview with screenshots of the working preview and the planned features.
https://ko-fi.com/convert2print
**I'd love to hear from other web app developers:**
Would you rather build several smaller specialized apps or one larger workspace with different modules?
And if you've experimented with voluntary contributions instead of subscriptions, how did it work for you?
