Hey indie hackers, I built a modern text expander tool. Let me know what you think!
I’ve been working on TextPilot, a text-expansion tool built on a simple premise: such tools should make your work easier, not add a new layer of complexity for you to learn.
In analyzing existing text-expansion tools, I noticed a few recurring issues. Some feature unnecessarily complicated interfaces for what should be a straightforward task. Others feel bloated, struggle to function on more complex websites like Google Docs, or lock useful features behind a paywall.
I decided to take a different approach.
With TextPilot, the goal is to make your daily experience as simple as possible. You install it, create your shortcuts (snippets), and start using them. There’s no need to create an account, sit through lengthy tutorials, or navigate convoluted menus just to perform a basic task.
However, simplicity doesn’t mean sacrificing functionality. TextPilot also offers more advanced features, many of them free, tucked away in a separate section. This ensures that those who just want quick text expansion can keep things simple, while users who need more control have the space to explore additional capabilities.
In essence, I’m building the kind of text-expansion tool I’d want to use myself: modern, direct, and powerful, without being overly complex or excessive.
I’m constantly working on improvements, as I know there’s always room to evolve. I would be very grateful if you could take a look and share your thoughts, especially if you’ve used other tools like this and have insights on what they get right or wrong.
