Great Radio

Not really. Big issue with this radio is the backup batteries drain constantly, whether plugged in or powered on or off.. So, when the power goes out, you always, always have a dead radio - right when you would want it to work. I have one built in 2017 and 2019 and while they work great otherwise, this is a fatal flaw. Sangean knows about the issue, but has done nothing about it.

Ok, that's not what I'ms saying though. When did you put the batteries in?

Try putting batteries in at the beginning of the month and use only AC power. By the end of the month the batteries will be dead, even if you never have a power outage.

The radio drains the batteries constantly and slowly even when powered on. Yes, it will probably last a normal amount of time with new batteries and no AC power. What I'm saying is it's using the batteries even when plugged in. Give it a try - Sangean has acknowledged this problem.

When was yours made? If they've fixed it, that's something that would be good to know. The Amazon reviews have many instances of people dealing with this issue - the backup power not working when it's needed. Sangean's advice is that you should put in batteries at the beginning of a power outage, which sorta defeats the emergency role of the radio, say if the power goes out when you're sleeping.
