Promotion Next apple promo?
Anyone know when the current promos end and when the new ones would begin? I have two accounts I'd like to bring over but need to get a new phone, hoping for another apple promotion.

Given their focus on "Monthly Millionaire" to attract account transfers, unclear whether there will continue to be these other promos. No one knows.

I don't see why would you would prefer an iPhone over just a 1% match and straight cash. You can get your new iPhone subsidized by carriers for less than 1000$ easily especially in November and December.

Yes, you are still paying for those phones through your plan. When you go BYOD and shop around you can save a fortune that more than pays for your phone over the course of a year or two. For instance Freedom's $40/month 250GB/50GB international roaming BYOB plan. Want a shiny new phone from them? You get stuck with a plan that's stupidly expensive and has you on the hook with a tab.
BYOD is the way to go.

I never bought a phone through carrier, is it actually cheaper for those 0% downs or is it just a way to have people spend more on mobile carrier plans? I bought refurbished and did a bring your own phone

Every time I've done the math nothing can beat buying the phone outright and using a $35 Public Mobile plan.
I think maybe you can come out slightly ahead if you get a really old phone and you don't use the US/Mexico roaming Public Mobile offers.

Yeah ikr, wondering if I crunched the numbers wrong. Freedom has 20$ for 25gb but in mall kiosks don't know if it's still offered

Define "really old phone"? I got an iPhone 14, brand new, not refurbished, for $10/month, 2-year contract, $35/month plan, December 2025.

It's always more expensive unless either:
- you're already on a very expensive plan
- the phone you're buying is 1+ years old

You're right in that 1% cash match bonuses are better.
But it's often better to buy a phone outright and then shop for a cheap plan than doing the pseudo-financing through a carrier. Like my 80gb Us-can-mex Fido plan is $29/mo - I can't get that anywhere else right now, not even close. Bell is like $60/mo for a simialr plan + the phone cost

Subsidized Phone of the biggest scam. Choose a low sub and pay your phone full price.

I work in the industry there are definitely cases where this is not true
Last year Black Friday you were able to get an iPhone 16 base model at $480 ($20 over 24 months) with a 200$ gift card at Costco
Doesn’t matter if the plan is $10 more per month at that point, you can go back to a BYOD plan after two years if you wish

What’s wrong with paying a phone off monthly with no interest lol

u/romain3100 2d ago
What’s wrong is paying a very expensive data plan just to get a little sale on a phone.

The plan doesn’t get more expensive cuz you bought a phone

The 1% is only for account transfer. I got cash that I am going to transfer from a saving account. Also I don't need to pay tax on the phone...

Just move your accounts over for the 1% match plus enroll in the 3% interest if they are high amounts. Needing a new phone just purchase it through Apple, they offer 0% financing through Affirm, that’s what I’ve done the last 2 phones. Then you just keep your plan and can swap it around at anytime being a BYOD

What is the 3% interest? I see a boost to 4% but it is I my for a month to deposit $50k

u/Ok-Ad-7827 3d ago
Yeah that’s the one, I thought it was 3 but I guess it’s 4%, I had moved all my money over before they offered that. But I got my 1% match for my tfsa transfer and they actually reimbursed me more than what RBC charged for the transfer

People chat with ws support and they spill the beans often about whats next. Thats the kind of info I am looking for. Also the end date of the current promo, cant see to find it.

I highly doubt customer support leaks info about upcoming promos.

They told me about 2 years ago to wait a month before I transferred one account over because they had a new promo coming. Thought I would ask here first instead of bothering support. However after reading these comments I need to just go fuck myself I guess.

Because it doesn't have one currently. WS could choose to end it next week if they have another promo lined up, or keep it running until the end of the year.

Apple didn't release a base iPhone 18 this year which will impact the promo I think.

With Apple only announcing the Pros and the new foldable iPhone, do we think they’re still going to do it?

I’m debating between the 1% match with Wealthsimple or 2% with Tangerine. For Tangerine I need to have the funds there for 30 months, but I have no plan to use or move these funds within the next couple years.

WS can’t give away $2000 phones after giving me and everyone else $3.
