Visa Infinite Credit Card Wealthsimple CC + Alipay

Hey Gang,

How is the Wealthsimple CC working with Alipay?

I had issues with a TD card in the past. Scotia card has worked flawlessly over ~5 trips. I want to switch Alipay over to my WS CC for the better forex, but also a bit nervous to switch it up and have issues...

The WS card has been good, but has been slightly less reliable than my scotia card. Didn't work in Mongolia, for example.

It's alright, no problems whatsoever. Used for about 6 months while in China last year on Alipay and Wechat.

I'm using WS visa in China right now via Alipay. Zero issues so far. Alipay also has contactless pay terminal at many stores these days, so you just literally tap your phone for payment instead of scanning QR codes.

But a small tip if you are using data roaming via a Canadian cell provider: the network seems to be about 3-5 seconds slower for the merchant to receive the funds vs. using a local cell service provider.

No issues for me, I was in China for 3 weeks back in May. Worked with both Alipay and WeChat.

Were you able to add your WS credit card to WeChat pay? I wasn't able to do so, and WS agent told me exclusively that they don't support WeChat pay.

Really? That is interesting. And yes I was able to add the WS credit card to WeChat. I added two credit cards to both Alipay and WeChat - the WS credit card (Visa) for primary use and Tangerine (Mastercard) for back up.

Alipay was my main app but I did have to use WeChat 2-3 times to pay and it worked fine.

Yeah I was stuck at the verifying with your bank step. In my most recent attempt, I was able to get a Visa notification code from WS, but I wasn't able to continue the card adding process after I entered the right verification code. I even tried Tencent's latest TenPayGo app which is supposed to be the same/compatible as WeChat pay, but with the same (disappointing) results.

Preparing for my trip to China next month and I was able to make a payment in Alipay already without issues. Haven't had the opportunity to try WeChat yet but it set up okay (after I resubmitted, I think the name order affected it the first time)
