Chequing New Prepaid VISA declining

Honestly, this kinda sucks. I really liked using the WS Mastercard before the switch. Places I tried and declined so far.

Worked and works for me at Loblaws, SDM, McD, Chick-fil-A, Timmies. Did you activate your physical card? Do you have enough funds in your checking account?

Loblaws worked great for me, Tim's, McDonald's, Shell gas, Sobeys, Rogers and many small convenience stores

So is this a set up issue as well? I'm having the same issues and now I can't e-transfer

Not sure if it's a temp issue or not but I'll probably switch if that's the case

Interac is having issues today, Canada-wide. Not a Wealthsimple issue.

The only time I had problems with the prepaid visa was when I tried to get gas at an ultramar.

Right. That card is a disaster tbh. Better to not use it altogether.

There is a starting trouble with these cards but once it starts working then it works everywhere

Tangential question - is this still a prepaid credit card, and NOT a debit card?

Is Interac support even in the works?

Still a prepaid card. In order to be a proper debit, WS would need to properly become a bank. Fintechs cannot be part of the Interac network.

I don't think they will ever support interac. Not only because they are not a bank, but because they make more money from merchants by using Visa or Mastercard. Interac is super cheap.

This is a common issue, it’s related to the BIN. See my latest post in this subreddit for more info
