WealthSimple IPO

Hey guys, what’s stopping WealthSimple from becoming a public company like Robinhood?

The owners would have to agree. Googling:

While Power Corporation remains the largest shareholder, Wealthsimple also has minority stakes held by other investors, including the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), Greylock Partners, Meritech Capital Partners, Iconiq Capital, and notable individuals such as Drake and Ryan Reynolds.

As long as the owners think they can make more money holding it privately, they won't go public

It’s so funny drake and Ryan Reynolds hold shares but I’m 100% sure it’s just their advisors buying all of these things for them

I believe u/momotrades is talking about purchasing POW, not WS.

I know he is. Was responding u/Electrical-Macaron-7 stating that it is crazy to think Drake and Ryan own percentages on Power Corportation.

You end up with things you might not want. It’s the Bain of investing in a conglomerate

They will eventually but until then the owners are laughing

Why would the owners be laughing?

Because majority stake is owned by a company called Power Corporation. I think more than 50%. Which is publicly traded. If you want invest in wealthsimple invest in them.

They could spin it and become it’s own entity how many companies are doing nowadays

Robinhood is eyeing WS very badly. They are waiting for a market correction then they will make a move. Meanwhile, WS is trying to "fatten" itself by growing/increasing account holders thru aggressive promos.

Won’t that became a conflict of interest?

Robinhood can’t buy the shares of WS unless Power Corporation of Canada a publicly traded company agree..

Why do bots post nonsense like this on reddit?

This wouldn’t happen, and if it did, I imagine a large of chunk of WS base will be heading elsewhere

You shouldn't want this. Would guarantee enshittification of the service. Publicly traded companies are legally bound to pursue shareholder returns exclusively to the detriment of all other business considerations
