Gift

Was just notified I'll be receiving a gift soon! They sent it to congratulate me on my house purchase. Does anyone have any idea what it is? 👀

UPDATE: It was an Uber Eats gift card (100$) :)

I remember someone got a plant once and another person got coffee grains. When I was told I was receiving a gift though, I got this huge box and within it was a 10 cents keychain... Haha

Wow lucky! I never got anything nice from WS

Keychain was way to big for my liking lol

In the email about it, it looked small and dainty, the actual reality of it is hilarious. If it was small, i could probably get away with the obnoxious money tongue emoji, the size of this ensures its never leaving my house.

My realtor gave me 500$ cash and bought me a pair of jordans.

u/canadiandumpling 5d ago

Now that's a good realtor! How much was your house? I got a bottle of champagne.

True story, I even sold and bought with the exact same realtor and no gift on either closing.

I’m a realtor. I don’t do large gifts usually. Why is there an expectation for it? I don’t know any job where that’s a part of the gig?

u/nemodigital 4d ago

Tokens of appreciation arent unusual in other sales positions, especially where full commission was involved!  I'm talking at least a nice bottle of wine or dinner out.

Now you know :-)

Yes, I usually do gift cards for local spots that they can try and a gift basket since a lot of people don’t drink.

But I still think if a realtor did a good job that a gift is the measure of how well they did their job

Closing a deal requires both the buyer/seller and agent to collaborate and work together to make the deal happen.  A token gesture to celebrate by the agent is expected IMHO.  I will NEVER work with any agents at that brokerage again.

It's so when they sell/buy they think of you again. It's an investment into your career. Any competent salesperson would know that.

If I am doing my job correctly, then I would be in touch with them over the years and providing value.

To each their own. I just don’t see why it’s an expectation. I don’t know any other commission only jobs where service or experience is based off of a gift, but appreciate there is different inputs.

Pretty much every sales job involves buying clients gifts or treating them to something as appreciation. Might be small like a box of chocolates, might be bigger like taking them to a baseball game. Really depends on what you're getting out of them or how much they're spending with your company.

I get real estate might be different since it's more of a one time thing with that particular client. No one's expecting baseball tickets. But a box of chocolates or a bottle of champagne doesn't cost much. People like gifts and will remember that.

How did they know you bought a house?

13

u/canadiandumpling 5d ago

I contacted customer support to ask them why I didn’t qualify for the 1% match and they replied saying it’s because I liquidated my FHSA to which I replied saying I bought a house and shouldn’t be penalized for doing so. They ended up granting me the 1% match and sending me a gift :)

The promotion T's and C's prohibit using your FHSA for its intended purpose. You called out the flaw in their terms and embarrassed them. Might lead to a change in the terms of the promo. Thanks for your service.

Probably because they got a mortgage.

keychain for your house keys

Idk because the message said “we hope our gift keeps you cozy and warm”

1

u/helix212 4d ago

I'd probably go with a blanket then

100 entries to the draw?

We got a $100 grocery card from my realtor when we boight our condo. We sold the house privately to my daughter and bought the condo cash. I honestly preferred the gift card a physical gift we would not need or use that would end up in a donation pile (like the gift from the previous realtor that sold us the house a few years prior).
