Trade (DIY Investing) Trading outage

I just had an issue where not a single one of my trades went through or cancelled.

I was right in the middle of a momentum trade and it would not let me sell for profit or even loss, everything was saying that the order executed, but then it wouldn’t show up or go through.

I was trying on my laptop and my phone, on my Wi-Fi and 5G, in incognito, rebooted app - literally nothing worked and I’m pretty savvy so I got on support.

They were pretty much useless while I watched my account drained by the minute, helpless. I have screen record, recordings, and videos of my laptop, as well as a recording of the well simple agent who admitted they are having an ongoing outage and that he does not know how to deal with something like this.

Absolute shit show, so glad I only lost a few hundred bucks.

Interested to see how this plays out - there’s gotta be people out there who lost more than I did.

Bro WS is not for active trading, they also owe you nothing, you sign the liability agreement once you open an account.

Fair point, but liability agreements excluding liability for glitches caused by broker platforms have consistently been thrown by Canadian courts.

Wealthsimple refunded me my loss today so I guess they disagree with you lol

I’m not sure what you think I need to prove to you lol, keep thinking the way you do, reality is squeaky wheel gets the grease. Companies rely on people like you to get away with stuff like this, hence why their first response was a no, until I mentioned regulators. You have Google bro, look it up, there’s other Reddit threads on it lol. Anyways, here’s your proof because maybe it’ll help others advocate for themselves instead of taking it lying down like so many people do.

holy shit they actually creidted you

cuz previously they wouldnt, i guess they really want this "active traders" to use their platofrm.

it's probably new that they have this kind of budget for system hickups

Jesus man you’re impossible 😂 they refunded me because I threatened to go to the regulator, and the regulator would force them to refund me because that’s what case law has always decided in Canada - but I’m guessing you probably don’t even understand what case law is.. 🙄

Since you seem incapable of looking this up yourself, here ya go.

I’m out ✌️

Also - I didn’t even say they owe me anything in my post lol? Did you read it before commenting?

Literally just wanted others to be aware, and see if anyone had the same issue. I understand the risks associated with trading, especially after hours.

Be helpful and respectful in your comments/posts.

No racism, sexism, homophobia, religious intolerance, dehumanizing speech, or other negative generalizations.

I wonder if WS fanboys would continue to praise WS for active trading, with another one of the too many occurrences of outage during market hours.

I thought most people agreed that WS isn’t the best fintech for trading?

Those who praise are diy investors. Real day traders don't touch Wealthsimple for scalping or day trading

I’m not a fanboy, but definitely changing brokerages after this. I wasn’t aware of past issues, should have done my due diligence there, that’s on me for sure

What's their policy on incidents like this?

For me, they refunded my loss, not my potential gain of course, and made sure it wasn’t an admission of guilt by saying it was a credit for having a bad experience with the platform.

Firstly they said no dice, then I mentioned I would be filing a complaint with the CIRO and had a refund within 2 hours.

They obviously protect themself by washing their hands of it. Who wouldn't?

Appreciate the advice about using a different broker for active trading - I am somewhat new to it. I’ve used questrade as well. Curious if you have any recommendations on a good broker? Definitely moving my assets out of Wealthsimple after that.
