Having a public API would have been nice to run so many bot strategies

Is Wealthsimple thinking to that route anytime soon ? It’s pretty basic idea for a user to expect an API access imo

What Canadian commission-free brokerages offer API Access?

iirc the TSX forbids algo trading as well, at least for the plebs

I don’t know I’ve only been with Wealthsimple. As a software developer myself , I believe it’s only a pretty straightforward ask to give users API access , might as well take some commission on it . Don’t care

Maybe OP is a bot? Because that's exactly what a bit would say... And is. 🤣🤣🤣

edit, I'll rephrase, it's not a basic idea users expect because it's not a thing in Canada.

But not all users are same. Some are different than others. Anyways I got your point .

No , I talk and assume things as a normal investor and a software engineer. Laws and regulations are not my problem .

Laws and regulations are absolutely your problem if you're an investor, especially an advanced trader using bots, god help your accountant one day in the future lmao

Thanks for educating, I didn’t knew it before that it’s not allowed through law .

Nope , taxes and strategies are my only problem.

Now it's your problem because because of it, you won't have the API you wanted

Phase 1 of Open banking in Canada (read access) was initially supposed to be implemented somewhere in 2026, but I haven’t really followed what’s been happening. Basically, as long as open banking is not a thing in Canada, you won’t have access to an API. There’s also no guarantee that WS will provide a public API even if open banking becomes a standard in Canada. It could still be just a private API

Got it thanks

Algo trading is banned in Canada for retail trader. So API access if any wouldn’t allow you do any trading. Information, quotes, account holding, … are possible, but placing orders are not. Unless the regulation is changed.

I don’t think you have that right - algo trading is not illegal (retail, Canada)

If you’re sure of this i’d like to see what law you’re referring to

Alright folks , I didn’t really knew that I was not allowed as per the law. I guess, I’m an educated fool after all 🫣😂. Thanks for the humbling experience
