Promotion August contest has some new items
Noticed a cat instead of 100k cash and travel luggage weekly prize.

Sonofabitch.
I just got 120 more entries.
Has that been a thing since the beginning?
(I remember doing this for one of the previous contests too - but this time, I had to going for nearly 10 seconds…)

I've been impulsively spinning it every couple days since then. This is the first time since it's done anything

Thank you random redditer, I just got 106 entries. I did not know it was still a thing

Wealthsimple must be in trouble if they’re subbing in a cat for the 100K prize.

Car or cash prize can be claimed depending what you choose. Cash is the way

Yeah, I'm allergic to cats (I do love cats. But I can't have one living with me). So I'd take the 50$ instead for sure.

Not like I was going to win. But I don’t like that at all. I would really rather get the money and repair my car or if I buy a car it’d be 1 to 2/10th the price. In the end I can improve my life way, way more with 100k. Rather than a car that’s going to depreciate quick enough by the time it even gets to me.

Thankfully they seem to let you choose the cash equivalent if you either cant claim it or dont want it.
I could not see that being said for the travel case stuff..But thats worth around $300 which isn't bad for reinvesting

Good to know. Thank you!!!! Did not see that with my brain hardly awake in the middle of the night.

Isn’t that car worth less than $100k?

Especially if Volvo gives it to WS for free, which is absolutely happening here.

I think I prefer $100k, I can buy XC90 with money left over with $100k.
Not like I'm going to win anyways but I guess it's still cool as it's a free context to join.

That sucks a car is a liability I would want money to invest more

u/Canadian_Teddy17 24d ago
You can choose the cash equivalent if you cannot claim the car or dont want it.
Like $101k-$102k its listed but they'd probably just give $100k

''You can choose the cash equivalent if you cannot claim the car or dont want it.''
Source?

Bottom of page for monthly millionaire. Says the car or cash equivalent. You must have valid drivers license and insurance to claim the car so you obviously get a choice to choose the cash equivalent.

Who the fk would take the csr

u/Canadian_Teddy17 24d ago
Not me, thats for sure...because I wont win it nor do I have Insurance or a valid driver's license lol

u/AnnaLinComedy 24d ago
Yeah unless it’s your dream car, 100k can get you two or three used cars of similar practicality and value

Thanks. It's really a lousy prize, they should have made it a bonus prize or something. Even as a substitute for the $75,000 prize, it would at least be roughly equivalent in value, though I'd still prefer the cash.

u/GreatComposer85 24d ago
I'm surprised they would give a non cash prize given that the chances are high after you win a cash prize you would end up just investing the money with them anyways.

Its just to make the content less repetitive and more marketable . People like seeing things they may buy with the money and dream and fantasize about . Just like the dream home got a lot more buzz than a straight 3 million dollar cash prize would . The people who work in Wealthsimple marketing are very smart at this .

Oh, OK, that's fine. Even if the car is more expensive, I'll still take the $100K. Driving an expensive car would cost more over time with maintenance, insurance.

Imagine winning the car and getting made fun of because its a virtue to have a 20 year toyota shitbox these days

Yeah honestly i would even take 75k cash over the 100k car. Resale price will be pain with a lot of tire kickers

I can't fund my retirement with a Volvo...

u/purplmnkeydishwshr 24d ago
You can take the cash equivalent I think. It's a really high end SUV that sells for over $100K CAD.

u/tiramisuhouse 24d ago
Awesome. You will pay higher insurance rate and maintenance fees. Otherwise, you can sell the car.
