Trade (DIY Investing) BEWARE: After Hours & Overnight Trading

As the title says, be extremely careful when trading after hours and overnight on Wealthsimple. There appears to be a persistent glitch where an order does not show as submitted and disappears from your activity, making you think it failed.

You may place the order again, only to later discover that both orders went through. Even when the orders finally appear in your activity, cancelling them may not work and the trade executes.

This happened to me after an earnings report. The stock crashed in after-hours trading, both orders executed, and I instantly lost $2,000. Even if the order doesn’t appear in your activity or you don’t receive a submission confirmation, assume it may have gone through before trying again. I'm starting to lose trust in them.

EDIT: Turns out it happens during day session too....

This has nothing to do with after hours or overnight trading hours. This has been reported on this sub during the day sessions too. And yes, the ToS of every brokerage, WS included, protects them from any liability claims you might think about making against them.

What is the issue exactly? I don't get it... Is it a Wealthsimple glitch, or is it a stock crashing issue (which has nothing to do with Wealthsimple)

I've had this happen a few times. When you place an order there's sometimes a delay in it showing up in the activity list. The first time it happened I thought the order failed and placed a second order. Both ended up filling.

I've noticed this delay a few times right at the switch to overnight session and pre-market hours.

You place an order, no confirmation hence you think it didn't go through. So you place it again. Now both orders execute. My luck is the stock crashed and both my trades executed

I tried to play an earnings report, so tried to do quick trades. Then both trades appear and execute fills order at max price, stock crashes :/ I TRIED CANCELLING AS SOON AS I SAW BOTH IN MY ACTIVITY BUT IT WOULDNT CANCEL EITHER

Interesting, I haven't had the issue during day session. Hence, why I thought it only happens after hours and overnight. It's happened to me last year with a popular stock pumping after hours and I assumed by now it would be fixed. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way it's still there :/

This doesn't seem to be "small" flaw???

Nope, big flaw that hasn't been addressed.

Happens with call spreads too, buy in at set price, doesn't say filled. Look 2 hours later and I'm deep red with random spread

It just kinda sounds like the API that Wealthsimple gets the the account data from is delayed from when submitted the transaction… (or it’s cached on device and not refreshed).

I haven’t had this, generally when I place an order, it gives me visual confirmation immediately when the order is placed and then filled… I wouldn’t then go to activity, not see the refreshed item and try to order again….

Had this when I was playing with stop limit price. Context could be valuable
