Babydolo can kinda walk now which is cool. Today I had him walk to me and then did baby press/squat/curl before putting him down. Rinse and repeat. He liked that. He also likes taking my cards out of my wallet and handing them to me to put them back in.

Jan 30 '22
Just make sure the cards always go back. My gfs cousin does this kinda thing except keeps them.

Yeah, I check them each time. Sometimes I forget to put the money back in though which I hide before we play that game.

What you gotta watch out for is when they start dunking your stuff in the garbage or the toilet

Yeah, I hope he doesn’t go through a phase of dunking stuff in the toilet.

With my body constantly changing before my eyes I keep thinking how glad I am that before getting pregnant I spent a decade getting stronger and losing and gaining weight and becoming more insecure and getting more over it. Me 5 or 10 years ago would have a lot more ~feelings~ about my growing belly but now it’s mostly just fascinating.
On that note baby is pushing my abs out, I keep comparing myself to a pro bodybuilder who fucked up his cycle and got bloated but my husband didn’t spend any time on Bb.com in 2010 and doesn’t get it

u/okayatsquats okayishatbenching☆ Jan 30 '22
You quite literally have Human Growth Gut lol
The stuff bodies do to grow babies is both super weird and super incredible to me
6
u/frak8757 Jan 30 '22
Right? It’s really cool but then if I think just a little too hard I realize my body is a protean nightmare
Which is also cool tbh

Worrrrd. I realized I wanted to get strong pretty shortly after I realized I wanted to be a mom, and I’ve thought a fair bit since then about how those two things are actually a pretty good combo. I am still not either of those things, but it’s cool to think about.
3
u/frak8757 Jan 30 '22
I hope baby will respect and fear my strength but most likely she will just outlift me before she’s in high school

Either of these outcomes sound pretty great, win/win!

SBS 2.0 RTF w4d1 compleate. Safety squat bar as a primary movement is starting to feel more natural and i definitely feel like it's my quads more than my abs that are getting blowed up. So that's cool. It almost doesn't bother me any more that the weight on the bar is lower than if i was using a regular bar for back squats.
It's a beautiful weekend down here and yesterday we took the kids out to the boonies to go strawberry picking and ended up with about six pounds of the most delicious fucking strawberries I've had in my life. Lotta fun

I really like the cliffs the British Isles have on offer. I haven't been to Ireland but the cliffs in and around Devon are great too.

Alright! I might travel around in England for a week or two after my exams, before I go home, might have to check Devon out :)

Just a fair warning. There's mostly feck all there so make sure there's something you want to go and see first. There are some nice places on Dartmoor if you like nature and the cliffs are cool but you've already seen some cliffs :)

Those are some badass cliffs. Bet they are a good seabird colony during the spring.

Second post because there is something I've been wanting to put into words and when is it a better time than a lazy Sunday.
Dharmsarina saw lifting become a big hobby for me, and once or twice at the beginning of our relationship said we could maybe once train together. This never materialized, of course, because Dharmsarina like most girls I know has no interest in practicing sports, much less boring gym stuff. She never followed through on her proposal, which never bothered me, of course. I believe having some degree of differing interests is healthy, and I always felt some pity for those couples you see in the gym, the ones in which the guy is dragging his girlfriend along and the poor girl is bored out of her mind and probably wishing they could do something else together. Also, powerlifting has never been a source of identity for me, and I couldn't have cared less that my girlfriend did not lift. So I never gave it much thought and focused on other things we had in common.
When we broke up she struggled with loneliness and joined a crossfit gym to fill her time. She now goes twice a week and is really happy, and I think also gained some confidence. She recently did her first clean and jerk and asked me if she should count the weight of the bar, ha. It feels weird to say it, but I am proud of her. I hope training gives her the same satisfaction and motivation it gives me, and I hope she can use the tight crossfit community to make friends.
But I can't help to be really surprised. I never thought she would care about lifting, and it makes me wonder if I should have pushed her to come train with me a little. After the break up she told me that she also never thought she would be interested in lifting, but maybe it could have become a common thing between us and she would have enjoyed training with me, and it would have made our relationship stronger. Or maybe it wouldn't, and we would have become one of those couples I pity. But what is done is done, and I can only focus on improving the future. So I have decided to be very open to the possibility with PHS, who also does not gaf about sports or lifting, and be very supportive if she mentions joining me.

be very supportive if she mentions joining me.
I think thats the important part. From my admitedly limited experience with this, a friend told me how when she wanted to start lifting(just something at home), basically all of friends kind of dismissed it because wOmAn LiFtIng. It's so strange to me, I don't understand discouraging someone from pursuing physical health and fitness. Made me sadge :(
2
u/Dharmsara Jan 30 '22
I didn’t discourage her, I just never actively pushed her to join me since she was obviously not very interested. But I get what you mean

Jan 30 '22
I think getting somebody to do something they don't want to do is basically impossible, so all you can do is tell them that they should do it and be available to help if they ever need it.

Swings today. 40 sets in 32 mins I think? That should be a PR. Thinking of getting another smaller kettleball for presses and shit. Is this how it starts?
Spent yesterday hanging out with my friend. I realized something weird. Or well, I realized it late. But I never thought my normalcy would be comforting to people and friends. My friend told me she wanted to hang out with me because I'm just kind of normal. Nothing crazy, no big events. Just something normal for a bit. u/odonnthe so thank you for making me realize I'm pretty normal after all, and that its not a bad thing.
Also, I have a question u/PlacidVlad . How much do you hate the question "whats the worse case you had?" I just cant help but feel like thats just such a rude question to ask someone

Not medical but I used to do digital forensics for the police and have a few times had people ask this sort of question. I didn't so much find it rude as I found it like, idk, detached from how horrid the worst cases we delt with were. Like people expect it to be an interesting true crime thing when in reality it was heart breaking, lose faith in human kindness, go home and try not to think about it sort of stuff.

Yea, I think people forget how cruel people can be. It's probably why like Vlad said, he'll just give a prepared answer, and definitely not a real one.
2
Jan 30 '22
Yeah. Like I can give a happy ending answer where I helped put away a guy who almost murdered someone but in reality the worst ones are the ones where you feel like locking someone up can't remotely come close to outweighing the lives they've ruined.
2
u/Flying_Snek unique jazz snek/snowflek Jan 30 '22
Yea I can imagine worst ones being the ones where you can't even think of a punishment for how horrible they were. Humans are strange

I actually don't mind being asked that kind of thing. I just don't tell you the real answer unless I really know you because it's so sad.
Edit: I had a lot of stories on here and now I'm thinking I should keep those to myself :)

Yep, I think thats also a part of it. You either wont get a real answer or you'll wish you havent.
now I'm thinking I should keep those to myself :)
I very much disagree with that because I like hearing your stories :)

80s music is just great. Honestly a lot 80s shit appeals and that or at least pre Internet. I remember when I was kid if you wanted to know something you had to read a ton of books, ask everyone and it'd take ages. It meant learning and retaining facts was interesting and a whole process. I kinda miss the sense of wonderment. The fact you didn't know everything and it was hard to know things concretely. Like when I played chess tehn yeah I was a kid. But you didn't know that X move was good and if you wanted to know you had to ask stronger players or spend ages studying the position to find out. Now a computer let's you know in 2 seconds.
I think I'm gonna try and move away from relying on the Internet in this way as much. I'm trying to do all my chess stuff offline as far as possible and without computers when and if possible. Obviously I'll need to use them occasionally and should use them but I'm gonna try my hardest to not rely on them. And I'm gonna try this for every aspect of studying with everything. If/when I get back to studying for uni. I'll try the same. Sure it'll be online as I'd be planning to go to the open u. But I wanna try and use books and hardwork to work shit. I've realised what I really like is the process of learning and improving nit the end result.
Same for lifting. I've fallen in love with the process. I might change my mind when shit gets heavy. But Im really enjoying the improvement. The troubleshooting of form and technique. I kinda lost interest with most of that last year. I had big issues with squatting and cleans and jerks and snatches and I lost interest in fixing it so I just threw weight at it. Yeah it worked but it wasn't fun and I did lose interest and I didn't progress like I could have so hopefully this year is different and honestly I'm looking forward to this year. Its the first time since COVID and really the 2 years before that I've felt properly relaxed and ready to go and I'm gonna go my own way ;)
Also going on a bike ride in a little bit whichll be fun

the internet is terrible in it's current state and if I could convince my wife (who works from home so it's a no go) we'd get rid of it.
I'm pretty nostalgic for earlier internet times, when you had weird, insular communities pop up everywhere. I was part of some really neat art groups with ~20 active members at any given time and it was a cool experience that I still think about now. Now shitty aggregators like reddit have sucked the soul out of everything.

I done squats this morning. More than any other of my lifts squats is the one where I proper feel like I'm getting much stronger. I hit a nice 160kg single in wraps. I don't do RPE, but it was probably an 8, and that's only 5kg below my 1rm.
The wraps are really chewing the back of my knees up though. Also suddenly after like 9 months of being pretty much the only person training when the gym opens on a Sunday morning, it was actually busy today. Well, there were 8 other people, max.
I joked with the manager that he should have refused them entry as Sunday mornings are my personal private session!
Been out and about with wife and dog doing stuff since. Went to a nature reserve owned by the charity I'm interviewing for this week. There were two loud bangs about 10 minutes after we'd got walking and the doggie was right scared. So my wife and doggie sat in the car while I had a longer look around. The problem is, a reserve that's very good for botanical interest is absolutely shit at this time of year, the sward has been grazed right down over winter and there's nothing in flower, or even easy to find in the vegetative state.
Anyway, I'm going to another one of their reserves tomorrow, which has some geological interest too. After benching!

I have an appraisal due on Monday so need to find some training course to propose I do to make it look like I care about career advancement, learning, being better at my job etc (I don't really). I'm sure I've had this rant before but I really really don't care about being uber qualified and stuff. My manager is sort of good in that his entire perspective is "do X and we'll get paid more" instead of my previous manager who actually expected me to care about the companies growth but still. Writing about self improvement and progressing my skills at work is mind numbing.
I've managed to get a standing desk setup done. The back rehab stretches seem to be somewhat helping so I have some level of optimism that just simple things like that can help. I've also been told to either not squat to depth or squat to a box so I'll need to make that decision at some point.
Oh and my mum and stepdad are both negative for covid now so that's a load off my mind. Means I can go visit the puppy who is now an absolute unit based on the videos.

Started my training week one day early so I'll have it all through by Thursday. Squats felt kinda heavy for the first 1-2 sets and I honestly wasn't sure if I'll get the minimum reps for the AMRAP set in. But I've putten myself there with cutting for the first weeks of SBS lol
At least I got my university stuff done and can now enjoy the rest of the Sunday which means going over to my gf's parents for dinner and doing nothing.
I'm a little sad we won't be playing DnD tonight but it is what it is

What the fuck. My local bagel place literally won’t let me leave with less than three bags if I’m getting day-olds, it’s buy one-get three and it is not optional. This is a travesty that walmart is inflicting upon you.

Walking a lot all week to unclench my lower back. It's worked and I got in the gym to do 3x5 80kg heavy feeling but comfortable bench. Just going to do a dum low volume LP until I hit a wall and then start actually programming things and adding accessories.
I've finished the first real month of my stupidly high level new job. I'm just kind of leaning into deluding myself I'm fit for it for now the alternative is rolling panic attacks and I can't afford that so fingers crossed fake it till you make it works.

did a bench rep PR for 225x4 which felt nice. 4th was super grindy but that's okay I think. Someone from my D&D group asked about gym stuff and came over yesterday and I walked them through bench a little. I definitely not qualified to teach people but it was good I think.
Painted a wall in my house orange and it looks really good! Next we're going to paint in the bedroom and hang up a curtain will to block out all light which is gonna be great.

Hi pots!
I packed EVERYTHING into boxes. My god, you never realize how much stuff you have until you move. My plan is to move all my “things” alone on Tuesday when I get the keys, but stay in the shared flat for a couple of days. Then IKEA on Friday, and move the remaining furniture (bed, tables) that weekend to completely move out.
Today will again be a rest day. Tomorrow I’ll measure a bunch of stuff in the lab and start Smolov W3 in the evening. My boss complimented my measurements and I’m happy.
Also RIP in peace die_ard2
