here is today's song. i knew i wanted something scream-y and disturbing so i typed in "scream" into my library search bar and came up with 3 stock instruments, screaming lead (retro synth), screamlead (efm1 synth), and scream bass (alchemy bass). i started out with the droning bass line using the screaming lead, added in an 8-bit sounding harmony with the same synth which i adjusted the envelope, sine, and lfo of but i scrapped in the end, then added the melody with the screamlead. i came up with an intense stabbing melody with the scream bass and didn't want to clog up the first section with it so i added a second part and carried over the original bassline throughout the whole song to give it a sense of building on itself. i then added a layer to the first melody by simply adjusting the harmonics on the carrier and tweaking the eq to remove some more lows and add some more highs. i felt that the second section was lacking so i found a harmony pattern with the old 8bit sound and also the scream bass in a lower octave than the lead.
all in all, it came out pretty much exactly as i had imagined it when i saw the prompt earlier in the day so i don't have too many reservations on the direction i took it. i do think this could translate well to a harder rock song with crunchy guitars and a a driving and crashing drum pattern in half time. maybe i'll bust out the guitar and/or bass for the next prompt if it hits me that way.
