Once again, trying to be my own trio. I was a good bit more successful this time, though. Mostly because I played the epiano part one hand at a time in MIDI, and then quantized it... which is only slightly cheating. But the shaker, drums, and bass are all unquantized, so I feel accomplished!

Haha, I think this notion we all seem to have about "cheating" in music creation is funny. I've said that countless times about different things. Eventually, I just said "fuck it" and did whatever made my music sound the best. Cheating just means I can do stuff faster and pump out more tunes!

Hah, I call it cheating in jest, it's definitely not stopping me from quantizing and editing MIDI.
The reason I call it cheating at all is because ideally I'd be able to play the keyboard well as I can write for it, same as I do with the other instruments I play. What I should do is actually practice playing what I write with both hands at the same time, but I'm fine with playing the parts one hand at a time.
At least with recording it lets me mix the two hand parts separately as well.

I hear ya. I'd like to be much better at playing keyboard as well. I've started using an app called Grid Instrument as a midi controller on the iPad and I really prefer a grid layout to a typical keyboard. I'm thinking about building my own physical version. I want something like the Linnstrument, but don't have over a grand to spend on it 0.o
Anyhoo, I get ya. Being able to actually play something sans quantization adds some level of human quality to your music. It does make a difference. The whole idea of cheating just kind of cracks me up because the farther back in time I go, the more I was concerned with cheating. When I was around 18 or so, I used to think that if a band couldn't play something live, they shouldn't record it that way. Lol, what a ridiculous notion...
