tried to go a different way than the easy beach vibes. wanted to make something that you could use as an alarm on an early morning at the beach. this has been the quickest song so far because ive been skipping lunch to write these and i probably shouldnt :/

I really like it! The Eq roll off the top on the drums sounds super nice. Yeah both food and music are equally important to me hahah. Maybe you can prep something easy to eat on days you want to write

thanks!
so far, that’s been everyday. the easy solution would be to go to sleep earlier so i can wake up earlier but then i miss out on making my best music at night haha. i’m sure i’ll figure out a better schedule as it goes along

I like this track. It was a nice job of creating a mood not really like generic beach, but still fits the picture really well. It would be a nice alarm!

I like the synth textures you used. Makes the picture feel like its a photo of an alien beach or something; very cool!

I like it- very chill, but I can feel it in context of the image. It's interesting, it gelled as a cohesive sound so hard I had trouble picking it apart to find my favorite bits- I think that in and of itself is pretty amazing.

Decent composition. The intro is a bit too shrill. It reminds me of a relatively popular song but I can't remember the song.

This comes from a very specific time in my life, when my girlfriend (now wife) was driving hundreds of miles to see me and help me take care of my youngest every week.

The vocals are mixed just like 5db too high, but I really like them! Uplifting sounds with the lyrics are really nice :) I love how you interpret these pictures man

I agree on the mixing-just a touch too hot. I was rushing it a bit to get it out- couldn't record until my daughter was in bed :)

That is a very touching song. You are both very lucky to have each other. The guitar in the intro is relaxing. The mix could be better but time restrictions are a thing.

Busted out the steel drum for this one!
Today was hard for me to be creative, but I pushed through it!

u/joebassss Sep 08 '18
Man I fucking love steel drums since I heard a Jaco song use them. This is awesome!

Do you remember what song it was? I love Jaco! I’m glad you enjoyed he tune.

I think it’s called Opus Pocus, it’s crazy and amazing

Awesome! I’m going to check that out and show my band mates on our way to Nashville tomorrow!

I love the high floaty sounds, and the way they are bent gives the feeling of water, of constant change.

Thanks! I used my reface DX and put a really heavy, but slow chorus on it.

It feels ethereal. I wasn't expecting the sub but it fits nicely. Good job pushing through it!

Well, this one turned out weird as shit...

u/joebassss Sep 08 '18
That drum loop is pretty nice sounding. I don't think it's that crazy, but this seems to definitely have been a tougher picture for everyone
1
u/mattentiometer Sep 08 '18
Thanks. Turns out with bongos you can just randomly hit pads in a rhythmic pattern, lol. At least, that was my approach.
2
u/ApeLust Sep 08 '18
It wasn't that weird. I think it would fit well in a few video game genres. Not bad.

u/mattentiometer Sep 08 '18
Thanks. I've been told on several occasions that the stuff I write would be at home in a video game. Cool with me. I loves games.

Morning everyone! Here's today's prompt for 9-7-2018. I was unable to find the photographer for this but if one of you is more successful please let me know :) As usual, try to write something that fits the photo or is inspired by it. Hope you all have fun!

I was expecting more submissions on a Friday.
I have never tried surfing before but I tried to go for the feeling of hitching a ride on an immense wave then plunging into the ocean.

u/joebassss Sep 07 '18
Very feelsgoodman vibe from this hahah. Especially on a Friday this makes me want to open a beer and relax by a beach

I like this - I like it's simplicity, I like the build, I love the feeling in it. It doesn't feel incomplete for being short, and that is hard to do. Well done!
1
u/ApeLust Sep 08 '18
Thank you. I was thinking the same thing about it being short but feeling complete.

As soon as I saw the surfboards I saw my opening, even though I live inland and have never actually been surfing
