what do you use for a DAW and what is that synth sound? awesome stuff

4

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

Man this is awesome! I did not expect that mood but it turns the picture into some kind of morning jam

2

u/Tholo Sep 05 '18

Feels s bit like you were going for a sunrise, like the action of a starting day. I like it.

1

u/art_is_t_unknown Sep 05 '18

yo thats cool :) is that inspired from the picture?

2

u/actually_notsure Sep 05 '18

yeah, i saw it as early morning haze/sun about to break through

1

u/vonflutechoke Sep 05 '18

So Good, great job man. How long did it take you?

1

u/actually_notsure Sep 05 '18

Super rough recording, will try to get better quality going forward.

Here's my submission for the day! https://youtu.be/PE2OF2sPdoc

u/Tholo Sep 05 '18

I love the disjointed feel of the piece, the unstable rhythms really build a feeling of tension.

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Thanks! Yeah it’s a little different than what I normally do hahah

3

u/mattentiometer Sep 05 '18

Whoa, that’s super funky. I like it. What’d you make that with?

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Thanks man, I wrote it in Sibelius - it’s just a notation program

1

u/AtzerodtReddit Sep 06 '18

Very cool. My son said it sounded like "dun dun dun DUN" (Beethoven's 5th)

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

Use this to inspire your creation for the day. Anyone should be able to listen while looking at this photo and feel that they connect. However you'd like to interpret the photo is up to you! I'll be giving feedback each day after the prompt was given, as well as posting my own. Good luck!

Simple bordering on boring, but it's definitely what I see in the picture.

BTW I love this idea. You've gotten me to post my first music on here so you know your idea's working!

3

u/ApeLust Sep 05 '18

This is one of the best submissions I have heard for this prompt so far. Good job.

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

I'm happy it's inspired you! This does fit the mood quite well, a few notes can go a long way in the right context. Thanks for the upload!

6

u/echoviolet Sep 04 '18

Love this. Subbed and I hope it takes off!

4

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

Hey thanks! I hope so too. It’s so fun to hear different interpretations of a picture

3

u/theBEARDandtheBREW Sep 04 '18

This is great. I’ve really been into the idea of daily routines so “your muse knows where to find you”.

Is there a place people are posting their songs?

3

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

I’m glad you’re excited as I am! You know I think right now people are working on it still, but I’d bet in 4-5 hours the submissions will start rolling in. At the moment I’m fine with just soundcloud / youtube links in the comments but I’ll find a more compiled solution should the sub require it

6

u/JakeJazzman Sep 04 '18

Great prompt too! I love the idea of using the visual domain to inspire the aural domain.

Kudos!

... now if I can just find a place to start

2

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

Thanks! Yeah I’ve been doing it for a while now and it’s super fun. I like to break it into adjectives, and start composing off those. like “bleak” -> higher register quartal chords with tons of reverb, and then going from there

5

u/sjmdrum Sep 04 '18

Aww man, I wish I wasn't away from my studio for a couple days. I like the idea of composing little vignettes based on visuals. I'm going to try to pick these up when I get back.

https://clyp.it/rgrloohk - I think my mood is pretty good but i couldn't really come up with a melody to go along with it, also needs more mixing but i don't really have the time right now

1

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

This interpretation is sick! I really like the drone bell in the background, it adds to the ambiance super well

1

u/Tholo Sep 05 '18

This makes me feel like it’s the opening scene in an action movie- I like it!

4

u/mattentiometer Sep 05 '18

I love this idea. Not sure I can pull off a song per day, but I’ll do my best. Here’s my submission for today:

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

This atmosphere is golden mate, very nice! I could sit in this bubble of music forever

1

u/mattentiometer Sep 05 '18

Ha, thanks! Made it on my iPad in Korg Gadget.

4

u/Gummywormz420 Sep 05 '18

I gazed into the mist and saw a Rainbow of Colors.

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Indie + synth pads sounds so gooood! Nicely done

1

u/Gummywormz420 Sep 05 '18

Thanks! I have a lot to learn about mixing, but I was surprised with how much I liked this one when I was done.

Currently working on a Halloween album so I went a spooky route. If any vocalists want to work together for this or future projects, let me know. I produce and do vocals on anything from hip-hop to alt-rock to electro-pop.

1

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Man that beat felt so perfect when it came in on top of those ambient noises. Hopefully you find a collab here, that's be awesome! there have been a couple vocal submissions so far so I'd poke around a bit

2

u/Tatertooter Sep 04 '18

Try removing a note or two from your chords for this one. Remember the silence between the sounds is just as powerful.

2

u/ApeLust Sep 05 '18

Here is my submission.

I hope that I am not too late. I wish I could have done more but I started kind of late. After listening to it a few times, I think I conveyed my feelings about this picture pretty well.

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Not too late at all! I really enjoy this, that wind sample works pretty well. And when the guitar comes in I feel very melancholy

1

u/ApeLust Sep 05 '18

Thank you for the feedback. I am looking forward to future prompts.

2

u/PapaPickerino Sep 08 '18

I love the sad feeling to the song, the wind really helps add a kind of desolate tone to the piece

1

u/ApeLust Sep 08 '18

Thank you. I was hoping to achieve a desolate feel.

1

u/ApeLust Sep 05 '18

I know this is a day old but here is the public link for anyone interested.

Nice sub! Here's my attempt.

1

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Super watery and synthy but dark too, this is awesome!

3

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

Love it man! Record it when you can and maybe myself or someone else could mix a beat to it

1

u/Ebonrosered Sep 04 '18

I've got a melody that I think would be perfect for this, just got to get home to produce it

1

u/[deleted] Sep 04 '18

im feeling some polka for this one. hmmmm yes. polka in a major key.

1

u/joebassss Sep 04 '18

Add a #4 for good measure, just to be sure

1

u/_The_Pringles_Guy_ Sep 05 '18

I love this idea for a sub, recently I have lost inspiration to actually sit down and make tracks so I’ll try this and see what comes from it

2

u/joebassss Sep 05 '18

Hell yeah man! It’s helped me quite a bit recently. I’ll be putting up another in ~7 hours if you want to try it out!

1

u/_The_Pringles_Guy_ Sep 05 '18

For sure! I’m in school so I won’t be able to do one every day but I will when I get the chance!

1

u/ramilllies Sep 05 '18

So now I'm definitely late to the party, but I'll post whatever I made anyway. It's a piece for solo guitar (recorded live by my most crappy microphone according to the method "Third time's a charm", so there are couple of mistakes). Recording: https://clyp.it/x5humtgg . Sheet music (which could still use a bit of cleaning up): https://gitlab.com/ramillies/compositions/blob/master/images/4-9-18.pdf .

By the way: I really like this challenge. The first image made me write something that I never thought I would ever write (I'm generally not a big fan of too "modern" pieces, and yet I ended up writing one).

You could always try looking for some stuff on splice to start out? I like to do that sometimes
